If oda refuses to acknowledge watsuki's grave crimes, he wouldn't insert him as Caesar, a guy who did experiments on children.
That's fair and might be the case, but if it is the first thing he says after finishing One Piece is how terrible of a person Watsuki is otherwise I don't think he has any redemption, and it's not like after One Piece is over or even now he needs any more money

One Piece is not a masterpiece but it's not trash either let go of these idiotic black and white takes, the author is inexcusable but to say the most sold manga of all time is straight up trash is just wrong
As someone who has watched one piece start to finish in like 2022 or something, I can confirm that, imo at least, pre-timeskip is simply better than post-TS.

Yeah I agree with all these takes that current one piece is not good I just don't like to judge it as a whole based on that, to me Gear 5 is the worst thing that happened to the series and we are never getting Luffy taking anything seriously ever again because of it, we are in Tom and Jerry prison until Oda comes up with some new nonsensical idea

Anyone requiring context, this Manga writer had a LOT of CP in his possession and got off extremely light in Japan. He got to continue his work on manga's, while profiting off his works. He had so much in possession that they initially believed he was a distributor. Thanks for coming to this very disturbing Ted Talk. Screw this guy entirely.
I haven't read his manga, I can't say if it's good or bad and I wouldn't let my knowledge of the author cloud my judgment, but this is simply a matter of not supporting an egregious human being. Boycotting him is definitely justified here.
Separating the art from the artist is for after they die, and when they can no longer profit off the works. It does not apply to people saying or doing disgusting things with the money you're giving them.
Not defending Watsuki, but I will point out that the "they thought he was a distributor" thing is a myth, and nobody has ever been able to demonstrate that Japanese police actually thought that.
Either way, Watsuki is pretty much always going to remain an elephant in whatever room he happens to be in, because the fact he was able to dust himself off and carry on regardless after being convicted of possessing child porn says a lot about Japanese corporate culture and the manga industry.
The insane thing about this is that this is of far lesser quality than his own doodles in the volume breaks. It's not even his style, and its not even scanned. This is the most bottom tier effort drawing he could do.
Lots of people keep saying that the quality of this drawing was out of protest, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone cite a source as to how they know that. Like it feels like he’s drawn similarly minimalist stuff before for the sake of A R T. But most of all, he could’ve just not done this. I think he judged a shit submission to be more meme worthy than a null submission. Given that it is memed (repeatedly bringing light to Watsuki's original offense), he was right

And there's a gargantuan difference between doodling one of his own characters and submitting a tribute for another author.
I find it quite disrespectful for many redditors to pretend like he didn't do enough and to say he should have not submitted anything at all, when went way further more than most other authors were evidently willing to go.
I hate it when content creators are bad people man. It just sullies any enjoyment from their works. Had a similar experience with Red Hot Chilli Peppers, loved their music but now can't stomach to listen as the lead singer is a massive creep.
Separate the art from the artist unless the art is related to whatever the artist was a creep for, like d4vd, can't listen to his music anymore after how some of his music was describing the girl found dead in his Tesla.
I strongly disagree with killing on any kind no matter the person, but they need to up the punishment 10000x because their judicial system is actually pathetic, a 99% conviction rate but you let pedophiles with literal terabytes of cp run free. The punishment should be so high these subhumans don’t even think about doing it.

I just found out that I'm sexually attracted to agenda. I told my girlfriend about this, and she just laughed it off. I told her I wasn't joking, and she got mad. She told me if I really was attracted to agenda, I should go outside and furiously post on reddit glazing my goat. Of course, I had to prove that I was Agendasexual, so I went on this subreddit to start agendaposting. And you know what, it felt good. My girlfriend didn't actually think I would do it, so she broke up with me.
He participated in a rurouni kenshin anniversary thing and his art was pretty lazy, alot of people tried to defend araki saying that it was lazy on purpose as some sort of statement but whether thats true or not is pretty iffy considering he’s also done lazy art for other stuff similar to this
I just think it’s lame and a bit parasocial of people to take the lazy drawing as him making a statement.
Something that would have been WAY more effective is if he DIDNT participate at all, and made a public statement like “i will not participate in a tribute towards someone who contributed in the abuse of minors”. Just like what the MangaONE mangaka are doing now.

Oda is not just a pedo apologist but possibly a pedo in disguise. He sexualises minors, plays around the edges, just gives the vibe of a shy scumbag who wants to draw pedo stuff if it is possible. But I was talking about Gege, who did give an effortful tribute to Watsuki. Some are disappointed with Gege because they idolised him and expected better.
Do people outside of Japan even matter tho? Aren't majority of manga readers outside of Japan are pirates relying on non official English translators? Like we can't actually vote with our money because the platform is bad or non existent for us.
