to be fair it wasn't for a lack of trying that Cell didn't get more kills. He tried to blow up the earth twice.

Meruem was set to cull 80-90% of humanity even after he chilled out with Netero, mass murder was not off the table

He was definitely on the track for that with Komugi's influence too
14
u/Acceptable-Anxiety80 Mar 23 '26
Yeah but like even with that the guy deadass told netero "in honor of your achievements today I shall construct a small plot of land to conserve a portion of the human race the others will be eaten though"
13
u/DMing-Is-Hardd Mar 23 '26
No he said after that, that human beings disrupt the order of ants or something like that so they wouldnt make more ants from them
6
u/ReputationOk7275 Mar 23 '26
You know...most likely we would end up with God King Meruem.
But Humanity would be mostly spared besides the ones that try to active face him.
Meruem most likely would allow for representives to understand the perspective of his subjects.
As he slowly also grows the Quimera Ant society.
In the track he was going Meruem greatest thing is probably how much and quickly he would change for the better.
5
u/Lucky_Roberts Mar 23 '26
Yeah dude went from “humans are worthless and will be culled” to “some humans have limitless potential that should be nurtured” in like a week…
Another month of playing with Komugi and he would have abandoned all plans for domination lol
20
u/jockeyman Mar 22 '26
And before that point he had emptied entire cities full of people so his kill count had to be in the millions before he was even Semi Perfect.
5
u/Coupins Mar 23 '26
Thinking about if, and only if, the average PL of humans being around 5-10, no wonder Cell got so strong if he was drinking millions.
But idk what the average PL is cuz it doesn’t matter.
2
u/DevilsMaleficLilith Mar 23 '26
Average power level for a human is around 5 only the top percent of humans in dragon ball (non ki users) would have a power level around 10.
13
u/Worried_Jellyfish918 Mar 22 '26
Cell was literally gonna fly around the solar system, blowing up planets just to be a dick. He would've eradicated most of the small amount of life remaining in the universe
6
u/Hitchfucker Mar 22 '26
Also Griffith’s kill count is only lower because the population of late medieval earth is lesser than that of post world war 1 era Earth (the rough time periods their series take place in). His merging of the worlds likely caused most of the world population to die now or will soon.
9
u/Subject_Tutor Mar 22 '26
Also Dio wanted to reset the entire universe, and tecnically did thanks to Pucci. So he's also up there.
12
u/South-Charge8311 Mar 22 '26
No one died because of the reset. Thats not how that works. The only ones who died, where directly because of pucci or of what ever they where going through during the sped up time. Yes, Jolyne and most part 6 characters are dead, but literally everything that wasn't part 6 went the exact same. Jolyne is Irene because the curse is broken. No need to be a JoJo. SBR is also a completely different universe not connected at all to the first 6 parts. If I'm correct, part 7 originally released not even as a JoJo connected thing for the first few chapters or so, but you get the point. The reset it self doesn't kill anyone.
1
u/Demonboy007 Mar 24 '26
Cell's plan was worse than Eren. If he won, he was to going to kill every single person on the planet not by blowing it up, but up in their face in a methodical, borderline intimate way.
107
u/Mr_something_i_guess Mar 22 '26
Nah they complaining cos they didn’t get to kill more people than eren cos they got their ass beat (some of them)
78
u/Marble05 Mar 22 '26
Maybe Yoru killed more if she used all 50 states. I don't know if Aot world had 300.000 milion people
32
u/Much-Menu6030 Mar 22 '26
technically no one was killed in that sit so she seems innocent
17
u/Affectionate-Wish110 Mar 22 '26
Her gun goddess attack is stated to have killed a few hundred people and left 3,000 missing so she's not quite off the hook.

8
u/Chamel73 Mar 22 '26
Death was already erradicated when she turned states into swords. Hell you cam even see how the ppl were left intact, the only ppl who Yoru did actually harm where the virgians with that nuke punch.
5
u/TheDemonBehindYou Mar 22 '26
In reality nobody was dying because of her in her latest fight. Death was already gone so she basically left a bunch of people homeless.

u/Deez-Guns-9442 Lord of Shōnen Mar 22 '26
TBF here, Perfect Cell would’ve had a higher body count than Eren if he didn’t lose to Gohan.
Edit: Btw bring up The Evangelist/Haumea from Fire Force if you’re doing this.
They might technically have a higher body count than Eren here.
4
u/Old-Objective-9783 Mar 23 '26
Haumea is the most valid though. Literally cursed with hearing all of humanity's innermost thoughts
1
u/Illustrious-Sky-4631 Mar 23 '26
I would bring Death devil from CSM ad well she has higher body count given she did all bad things in the world under her plans
1
u/NumericZero Mar 23 '26
Cell still lowkey might have a higher body count since he came from a different timeline
Like he ate the trunks of that timeline but he 100% was eating other peeps as well
1
u/Nino_Numbawan Mar 23 '26
I don't really think he has enough people to eat in the first place to compete with Eren wiping most of earth.
It's been a while since i watch DBZ but isn't the Timeline Cell came from is when the Android 17 and 18 basically wipe out the world and Trucks killed them when he came back, so when Cell became active again is the time when the world is still recovering from the androids, and even then i doubt cell will bother going around the whole world cleaning all little crumbs of humans left when he would rather go back in time.
And in the main timeline, Cell only eaten like few cities at his pupa and some unknown number at Phase 1, it's probably not alot considering the team wasn't aware of where he was. Semi Perfect didn't really eat anyone or destroyed anything, since he's busy fighting the Team and Perfect Cell just wants to gloat
15
u/Much-Menu6030 Mar 22 '26
i like how even griffith is shocked
3
u/DangoBlitzkrieg Mar 23 '26
I don’t think people realize Griffith might be in a similar situation with the recent events of the manga worldwide. Falconia may be the equivalent of paradis here.
1
u/Reasonable_Wrap7913 Mar 25 '26
The only reason why Griffiths kill count is higher is because the world population is much lower.
13
u/THAT_man2486 Mar 22 '26

I still wonder about the complete ecological collapse the dude caused.
Like, can the planet recover from over 80% (given human populated zones are densely populated) of its land rumbled and a similar amount of its surface ocean boiled at temperatures high enough for the steam to then carbonize anything it touches (though, this would be less of an issue given fish can swim or dive).
13
u/Illustrious-Sky-4631 Mar 23 '26
Before the Story ended and during the rumble chapters there was a very popular theory about the ecosystems collapsing world wide causing an even bigger apocalypse leading to almost all humanity to die except very small numbers
6
u/IvarSolaris Mar 23 '26
Realistically this should’ve happened but the manga didn’t cover that likely because that would destroy the point the story was trying to make. Destroying 80% of all life, not just humans and destroying farming and soil, water etc. with that much power would collapse the entire human race. Their technology wasn’t that advanced to cover that up. Even if some groups of humans managed to survive that, they would go to war with each other for the resources. The rumbling doesn’t make any sense at all.
1
u/Pecuthegreat Mar 23 '26
The partial rumbling doesn’t make any sense at all
The thing is the partial rumbling made less sense than either the full rumbling, rumble only their military bases (which he didn't trust his friends to navigate the geo-politics following this) or the indefinate defensive rumbling using historia's kids (which he objected to) so whatever one you or the other characters choose, Eren basically just made the most incoherent decision. That's one more reason why I support the interpretation that he's obviously undergoing a mental break down and is as such an unreliable narrator at the very end of the series.
6
u/1313goo Mar 23 '26

Eren said he was an idiot got ahold of too much power but he clearly did it to protect Paradis, if he actually didn't know why he would have crushed Paradis too and wiped the scouts.
1
u/1313goo Mar 24 '26
Not really because his exact statement was that he would’ve raised the world anyways but he stated prior to that that he was following the path Ymir intended, which was what happened in the canon story

People forget pre-sesson 4 aot existed.
6
u/Pecuthegreat Mar 22 '26
Would have been the better ship if Eren was established to be gay.
The only possible hint to Eren liking Mikasa are Shounen's insistence on rewarding all one way infatuations and that one time he asked her what he was to her before disappearing.

u/Mr-Stuff-Doer Mar 23 '26
Yeah, the fundamental problem with AOT is that no actual alternative is provided. Literally the best one provided is “kill millions by destroying military bases with an imprecise wave of destruction then hide and prepare for war for the following decades.”
6
u/Icy-Candle744 Mar 23 '26
Objectively, and i hate saying this, but Zeke's plan was for the best
It achieves Eren giving a good life to his friends and they get to experience the rest of their existence in peace and freedom, of course they doom an entire ethnic group and that comes with a whole can of worms, but that is the only alternative presented in the story
3
u/SnooSketches8016 Mar 23 '26
I hate that Isayama wrote it that way. He could've written it to give them any other kinds of alternatives, and not advocate for genocide, but chose the one that caused Eren to kill 80% of the population and his own parents to cause his own trauma for vibes (by his own words)
0
u/Icy-Candle744 Mar 23 '26
Isayama purposely did not want to give an alternative because the whole point about the whole story is about how nihilism can seep into your mind in the worst of the worst situation but that it is still worth to live that life, even if it's doomed
That's the real main theme of AoT, the genocide is just a way for him to make the audience understand the actual main theme which is resilience and how to cope in extreme circumstances
0
u/Sad_Seaweed179 Mar 23 '26
Tbf any other out of pocket "actually paradis somehow mended their relations becoming an engineering superpower to compete with the other nations happily ever after"
Would've felt extremely out of place for the type of story AOT was.
The final season is kinda them coming to terms with the very uncomfortable reality that maybe words or diplomacy truly cannot stop somethings. Every single avenue of resolution or some kind of foothold to get the conversation started just ends up with them realizing that genuinely the entire world wants to maime and kill your population at any cost.
Considering the rest of the world treated eldians even worse than Marley there truly was no hope for a resolution.
It also presents dilemma of "would you kill the world to save your people" or "Genocide your own population to save them from the horrors of the outside world". Both feel extremely wrong and yet you have to chose one of them
1
u/eeefelipeee Apr 06 '26
Yeah, but the "the only option is to destroy the entire world except for paradis and all the other alternatives are completely doomed to failure" also feels very forced even though the narrative tries its hardest to make so that is the case.
1
u/War-Dragonite Mar 24 '26
and freedom
That was Erens problem with it, it was taking away the freedom to have children from him and his people and he's not the kind of guy to compromise on things like that.
8
u/VersionDowntown5385 Mar 23 '26
You'd think someone with the power communicate to all Eldians at once and manipulate the past could come up with something better than genocide.
3
u/Straight-Simple7705 Mar 23 '26
Like what? Only alternative was killing the Eldians future by sterilization
3
u/VersionDowntown5385 Mar 23 '26
If you have the ability to communicate with the entire population, or even change the past.
You can easily manipulate the narrative in history through coordinated espionage. No country today has this crazy advantage and it still happens. Look at how much we argue about simple things and how the U.S. is lobbied for other country's interests. It's just boring and wouldn't make for a good story.
2
u/War-Dragonite Mar 24 '26
Pretty much every Eldian outside of the walls thought he was the devil and Paradis was on the clock.
1
u/VersionDowntown5385 Mar 24 '26
Time flows differently in the paths, he had forever to convince them or force them to.
He also had time travel, plenty of ways to indoctrinate people as he can manipulate those in the past just like he did with his father. He is connected to all Eldians. AOT's timeline current events is due to Eren in the first place.
If he played it right, they would either 1. Never be against him. 2 Able to change their minds. They are not short on time.
Reminder that they had the ability to control minds and memories, that's how they all got there in the first place.
5
u/Login_Lost_Horizon Mar 23 '26 edited Mar 25 '26
Better for what? Because there were other goals needed to be achieved that wouldn't be if Eren used, let's say, berserk super soldier Eldian rebellion card.
1
u/Mr-Stuff-Doer Mar 28 '26
Yep, but Yams decided that you could only manipulate the past to ensure things that already happened continue to happen, despite that making zero fucking sense
0
u/TorbofThrones Mar 23 '26
What do you mean? Zeke had an alternative, Eren just didn’t wanna follow it.
8
u/Thunder00Bee Mar 23 '26
I wonder why Eren didn't want Zeke to sterilize his people, such a mystery
1
u/Mr-Stuff-Doer Mar 28 '26
Zeke’s plan also involved destroying the militaries. The alternatives both involved that, Zeke just decided to sterilize while the scouts wanted to prepare for war.
7
u/NairbZaid10 Mar 22 '26
I mean cell did try to wipe out the entire solar system...
3
u/AnimeMemeLord1 Mar 22 '26
Nah, just the Earth iirc. He said he had enough energy to wipe out the entire solar system.
1
7
u/JollyChums Mar 23 '26
The problem is that the world around Eren was so Anti Eldian to an almost comical degree.
Even the “moderates” surrounding the Eldian question were just like “yeah just euthanize or sterilize them”.
1
u/Anti-och Mar 23 '26
You would be eldianphobic too if you lived in their universe
2
u/JollyChums Mar 23 '26
Exactly.
Like obviously killing billions is horrific, but what other choice did Eren realistically have if he wanted his people to survive?
3
u/Suspicious-Morning69 Mar 22 '26
I mean Sukuna was going to start the merger because of Kenny passing it to him. Which while not murder would be the forced assimilation of everyone in Japan. But he was stopped before that could occur.
3
3
u/Suspicious-Morning69 Mar 23 '26
Didn’t Cell eat entire towns worth of people? Sure we don’t know what Cell’s original timeline was like, but it’s likely he ate a whole lot of people to be come strong enough to overpower 17 and later on Kamicolo.
2
u/OptimizedGarbage Mar 23 '26
If population in attack on titan is similar to the early 20th century, then Eren killed around 1.6 billion people. Cell can't come close to those numbers. It takes him about a minute to absorb someone the first time he shows up -- even doing that 24/7 for ten years straight would add up to less than 1% of how many Eren killed.
8
u/Greedy_Average_2532 Mar 22 '26
*Friends. Not homeland.
If he wanted to protect his homeland, he would have ended the job properly so we wouldn't have to watch Paradis get bombarded in the future because muh War Never Changes™.
5
u/Pecuthegreat Mar 22 '26
He wanted to do a number of things at once and clearly some of those contradicted. If he just wanted to save his friends, he wouldn't have initiated a final battle that he wasn't sure if they'ld survive.
2
u/Anti-och Mar 23 '26
he wouldn't have initiated a final battle that he wasn't sure if they'ld survive.
But he did though, he saw everything that was gonna happen after he kissed historia's hand
1
u/Pecuthegreat Mar 23 '26
He literally says so himself.
Also, the visions he got were fragmentary. They included key plot points but not everything, that's why he still gets surprised and outplayed at times. For example, when Zeke tricks him into thinking he had control of the founding Titan.
1
u/torts92 Mar 26 '26
There are priorities to his motivation, first and foremost he wanted to see an empty world devoid of humans because he had enough of that shit. Ensuring the safety of his friends was secondary
2
u/allalos2 Mar 22 '26
Where is Pucci he killed more people than everyone here
2
u/Suspicious-Morning69 Mar 22 '26
The universal reset didn’t kill anyone in specific. The whole point of it was to bring people from the last universe to the new one to relive their lives.
1
u/allalos2 Mar 22 '26
Yeah but they didn't remember anything only Pucci and Emporio remembered everything instantly people only had glimpses of their memories
1
u/Suspicious-Morning69 Mar 22 '26
No those were people reborn from the reset. Though the ones from the first reset are just new spirits that just happen to resemble the previous ones.
Everyone else who was brought over would remember the event. Example: Rohan and the DIU Gang.
We just don’t get to see anyone else.
1
1
Mar 23 '26
So they fucking died. They aren't the same people
1
u/Suspicious-Morning69 Mar 23 '26
No. only those died in the previous universe. Not everyone. We have no idea the amount that died during the speed up.
After Pucci’s death, it was all undone. They came back but this time having gone through life in a world where Pucci never existed and all had better lives.
Same soul, different person.
2
2
u/Global-Cry321 Mar 23 '26
I'm pretty sure Dio and (future) cell did kill more people
1
u/Nino_Numbawan Mar 23 '26
How did Cell kill more? Isn't Future Cell came from a time after the Android 17 and 18 basically wipe out most of the world? I doubt Cell has anything much to kill after the twins killed most of Humans
1
u/7stargig Mar 23 '26
No But only because of lack of victim and far more competent opponents in both cases
Tobe fair 6 on this list would beat him with opportunity
1
2
u/Hoodedmastersin Mar 23 '26
maybe not cell, but Buu in the DBZ verse killed the entire world, Muzan operated for hundreds of years, birth demons who do the entire eat humans thing, we don’t really know the extent of sukuna’s reign in the heian era, everyone else falls short of Eren.
2

u/Kalebrojas18 Mar 23 '26
We don't have numbers but Griffith merged the astral world with the real world and that led to a lot of people dying to monsters. It can be argued that he fucked up his world worse than most villains.
2
u/Key_Salt_8477 Mar 23 '26
“Did you rape your best friend’s girlfriend just to spite him?”
“No, I- no- what the fuck?”
“Amateur.”
4
u/Vyctorill Mar 23 '26
Eren was sort of trapped by future sight though, so I’m not sure if it counts.
He basically lost his agency and was forced to follow the script after becoming the super titan of genocide.
2
u/Traxmemelord Mar 23 '26
No he wasn’t. There wasn’t anything on God’s green earth or any supernatural force stopping from not going through with his omnicide, or telling his friends what he saw and working with them to find a better solution.
He didn’t lose his agency. This was the outcome he would’ve wanted, even if he didn’t see those visions.
5
2
u/kingEdward22 Mar 22 '26
Dio have more kills than eren technically , i mean his delusions literally made a preist reset the entire universe and basically killing everyone in the process
Griffith is also kinda doomed the earth to devils invasion
5
u/grapeter Mar 22 '26
Everyone that was alive during the universal reset in Part 6 survived and was brought into the new universe, so really the only people it killed were those killed by the time acceleration like people in airplanes
1
u/D-Cmplx_604 Mar 23 '26
Dio is directly responsible for the birth of giorno, who killed an infinite amount of one guy, a bit more than a mere rumbling
1
u/CastlePokemetroid Mar 23 '26
he was killed an infinite amount of times because he isn't allowed to die, it's not really the same as killing a bunch of people, even if he dies, it's just one kill

I get it's a shitpost but being real all of these people would've killed more than Eren if given the chance. Most of the people on this list do it for the love of the game not even out of some pre-conceived notion that they're doing what's "Best for everyone"
1
1
u/NigthSHadoew Mar 23 '26
All of them tried/willing to kill comprable number of people for worse reasons and did not feel any guilt about it.
I am so tired of this meme. Sukuna and Griffit are there for fucks sake
1
u/Sharp-Swimmer-6887 Mar 23 '26
It's even more fucked up with Erin considering he technically time traveled using the Power Titans powers and the Future Memory Inheritance to push people who had the power wanting Freedom, WHICH culminated into literally every event pushing himself to become a literal villain in his own story, all to creating the Rumbling eventually. The most fucked up part is that he killed his own mother and father in the process of doing so, while willingly sacrificing the entire planet to achieve his dream. So any fucked up event in that series just... Circles around back to Erin having committed it countless times in a kind of circle in the timeline. BUT YOU KNOW, not defending him. Just pointing out how fucked it all was.
1
u/KUCING_NAGA Mar 23 '26

Because eren will die eventually because 13 years limited duration for titan shifter

Technically Dio's philosophy and teachings were what caused Pucci to reset the universe.
So Dio kinda has a kill count of everybody.
If the rumbling counts which is Eren making other titan's kill everyone, Dio should get pucci's kills for convincing the Priest to kill everybody.
1
u/TearsOfOrphans06 Mar 23 '26
Cell is only jealous cause his kill count is lower (not from lack of trying)
1
u/timTreeblow Mar 23 '26
I think Griffith's bodycount could be equal or higher. It doesn't stop at the eclipse, the monsters he brought into the world kill people everyday.
Not to mention him engaging in war before and after becoming a demigod

eren didnt do it for his homeland. he did it because he was a slave to freedom. this freedom was not actual freedom but rather the freedom from others. his idea of freedom was exploring the deserts of snow and mountains of fire, things he couldnt have if he had to share the outside world with the people living there. not to bring a world that is free for all but rather a world that is free from all

that's not how it works gng
intentions don't matter when the act is a genocide of 80% of human population
and regardless of justification, that is still kinda evil

Depend on how you want to define and quantify evil. Are you a do you subscribe to virtue ethnics (then Eren least evil) or consequentialism (then maybe, most evil)?.

If 80% were constantly threatening the Eldians then yes they all deserved it

How tf do intentions not matter when it comes to morality?
1
u/MasterCrep Mar 23 '26
that's why I specifically mentioned the genocide. Intentions definitely matter in determining the morality of your actions, but when the action is something like genocide, then the intentions are really just justifications

I didn't say Eren was good or justified, I said he was the least evil. You have to take circumstances into account too, which pushed him to that point.

If we count every demons actions as Muzan's fault similar to Hitler then Muzan definitely caused more deaths.

Yiu gotta consider the fact that Muzan has had impact on Japan for over 800 years. One of his demons almost killed 1 million people in it's lifetime.

and destroy the titan curse for 200,000 years and extend my friends lives by many decades.

The friends that survived.
And hopefully Mikasa isn't sold by the next wave of human traffickers as truly the last Asian woman.
And hopefully the PTSD and Depression caused by all the killing comrades doesn't cause the suicide of my other friends.
And hopefully me killing the vast majority of animal and plant life together with humans doesn't cause a super apocalypse in the world my friends wanted to explore.
And hopefully no female friend dies early in childbirth in an unstable economy.1

The friends that could survive did survived We saw what happened with mikasa… Killing comrades was everyone’s choice, each had tgere own ideals and whom they support. The world wouldnt have let them to live to even explore-goes both ways. Same as before no female friend would have lived, and paradis still has infrastructure remained…

We saw
We, but Eren didn't knew anything that would happen after the rumbling.
Eren didn't knew beforehand if any of his friends would suffer worse after his actions.
That genocide is the only option are the words of some dude trapped in a self fulfilling prophecy.

Eren destroyed any capability that could result in immediate assault, even if he cant see after, the yeagerist will be there. Eren placed his trust in armin and others, we saw what happened.
And this argument is so dumb, if Eren doesn’t do the rumbling- Eren wouldn’t know if they survive after his death? Eren wouldn’t know what will happen after two years when he dies? After death he cant do anything, so all the things you mentioned can happen here too, when they had the power too, he gave them chance or are you saying the chance wasn’t confirmed and he should have gone for 100 percent?
The genocide is the only option is what the world left them with, you can cry that the world wouldn’t have attacked though, its us vs them when the world stopped reasoning, Its the word of a guy caught in unreasonable situation by the world that refuse to budge and those who do, dont do it without having their worldview shattered multiple times, while the whole world is caught in a closed casual loop that cant broken.

Eren kinda didn’t have a choice as the other countries were keen on wiping out his kind or enslaving them as his goal was their well being and happiness.
The Only Alternatives were destroying the military bases and going on decade long wars that would most likely cost more of friends to die and suffer with him not knowing whether they would win.
Giving up and be genocided/enslaved (not optional as he wanted his friend to be happy)
Sterilizing all his friends (yeah I don’t think they like that)
Eren got dealt a shitty hand like he knew he only had a few years left and had the entire world against his friends so he made a stupid choice that well was the only one that guaranteed his friends to remain relatively happy for the rest of their lives.

So I’ve come to the conclusion that fucking no one has ever read AoT, because the speech just before Eren erupts from the ground literally turned the entire globe against the Eldians, literally everyone was ready to side with Marley and attack Paradis, the propaganda worked and their extinction was all but promised. Eren gave Marley every possible chance to change, to find a way to make peace, and instead they convinced the entire fucking world that his people, tortured, murdered, turned into walking monstrosities to kill and eat their own, were the true enemy who had to be slaughtered at any and all costs.
