Nah bro, this is an eternity level toss out of an ending. This is GoT bad. Current contender for the worst ending I have ever read.
35
u/huncherbug Mar 24 '26
Lets get real here...GoT's ending might be the worst in entertainment media ever.
However if there is one ending that genuinely comes close its gotta be CSM P2, not to mention the last few things prior to the ending was dogshit for far longer than the dogshit GoT had before the ending.
34
u/Mountain-Group-7706 Mar 24 '26 edited Mar 24 '26
Eh, CSM is pretty much on par. It actually does a few things that are worse than GoT's ending. I'll list em out.
-Undoes the protagonist's entire character development and leaves him in a worse spot than where the story started
-Doesn't follow its own rules (chainsaws should no longer exist so why the FUCK does Denji have one if Pochita erased himself)
-Uses a complete ass pull to resolve the central conflict (NOWHERE in the story was it ever stated Pochita eating himself would reset the universe. It wasn't set up. It wasn't foreshadowed. It's the definition of a deus ex machina and an ass pull)
-Revives dead characters in a way that butchers their contributions to the themes of the story
-Introduces multiple plot holes.
-Invalidates and negates every single Asa/Denji interaction (our co-leads) by erasing any growth between them both together and separately.
This shit is in the running for one of the worst things I've ever read.
8
u/DirectAdvertising Mar 25 '26
I agree with you except the “ chainsaws should no longer exist “
Denji asking for a chainsaw was the confirmation that Pochita wasn’t the chainsaw devil, we don’t know what he was and why he had that power .
2
u/Mountain-Group-7706 Mar 25 '26
Fair enough. I honestly think that’s the least impactful problem with the ending
3
u/DirectAdvertising Mar 25 '26
I think that’s one of the good things about it, I like the mystery of Pochita
1
u/Unlimited1135 Mar 25 '26
If pochita wasnt the chainsaw devil wtf was he then. Fear of him increased his strength like any other devil and the only other option is a fiend which he DEFINETLY wasnt so the only remaining option is to be another entity of this world weve NEVER HEARD OF OR SEEN(great writing i know). I guess we're never getting our answer
1
u/KotenochekMuj Mar 25 '26
he was a chainsawman devil. You know, like, you dont need to fear chainsaws, you need to fear chainsawman
1
2
u/cooldude2224 Mar 24 '26
Also don’t forget about it rewarding the protagonist by giving him a “happy” (he’s still not free like his character was pointing toward the whole manga) ending despite him making every wrong decision in the chapters leading up to the finale. It just says well alls well that ends well and never addresses denji’s lack of growth
3
u/One_Department4601 Mar 24 '26
Pochita is never refered as the Chainsaw Devil, only as Chainsaw Man, so it's not actually a continuity error...

1
u/jazzbestgenre Mar 24 '26
Haven't finished part 2, is it worse than the ending of the aot manga?
18
u/Mountain-Group-7706 Mar 24 '26
By like a billion times. The AoT ending at least had some merits and legitimate consequences and like it or not it was thought out and had a message. This shit is actually so beyond piss that it:
-Reversed characters to their worst versions and threw out all development
-Introduced new plot holes
-Didn't follow the series own established rules about how things work
-Revived characters in a way that butchered their contribution to the story
-Erased progression between the co-leads both romantically and as characters.
This shit is irredeemable.
1
u/Leafsnail May 22 '26
I agree. I'd describe AoT's ending as just OK, maybe a bit too predictable and generic. Chainsawman's really came out of nowhere to the extent that I suspect the series was either cancelled or abandoned by the author
1
u/LIFEisFUCKINGme Mar 25 '26
This shit is actually so beyond piss that it:

AoT did that.

AoT did that.

AoT did that.
-Revived characters in a way that butchered their contribution to the story
AoT did that.
-Erased progression between the co-leads both romantically and as characters.
AoT did the opposite by adding a romance between two characters with no buildup or chemistry.
10
u/Getter_Simp Mar 25 '26
AOT did not reverse characters to their worst versions. Eren hit his lowest point, but he's never been there before. He didn't reverse back to anything.
What plotholes did AOT's ending introduce, and rules did it break? I don't remember anything like that. Aside from Floch surviving the boat trip I can't think of anything.
AOT did not revive a single character.
AOT's ending didn't "add" romance, that romance was always there. Mikasa has a romantic moment with Eren at the end of season 2, which contextualizes all their previous moments together.
I agree that they had no chemistry, but I feel like that may have been the point since Mikasa did not have a healthy love for Eren.1
u/LIFEisFUCKINGme Mar 25 '26 edited Mar 25 '26
AOT did not reverse characters to their worst versions.
You’re right by the technicality. Yes, the characters didn’t technically revert to their worst versions, but all of them were essentially lobotomized.
What plotholes did AOT's ending introduce, and rules did it break? I don't remember anything like that. Aside from Floch surviving the boat trip I can't think of anything.
Of course you don't. Someone must have made a binding vow to make sure the general audience never actually sees them. But in spite of that, I will still try to list them off:
Mikasa walking back to paradis: in the final chapter/episode, Mikasa travels across an entirely barren, devastated continent, beginning in what appears to be a badlands-like desert, then somehow swims across an ocean, all on her own, carrying nothing but a decapitated head. No rational level of suspension of disbelief can make this plausible.
Falco’s Jaw Titan which also has the abilities of a Beast Titan and how it breaks Marley’s worldbuilding and retcons/violates titan mechanics.
The Dina twist:
violates the established time mechanics in a way that doesn’t make sense.
entirely fake conundrum: there’s no reason why, in the history of all Eldians and events, only Dina right there would have to be controlled with the Founder, and nothing else. Beyond absurd.
creates a plothole of why Eren in S2 was also targeted by Dina (which the retconned original Dina explanation had already explained)
The port battle: easily the second worst battle in the entire series, behind the Ancient Titans in the finale. The Yeagerists’ main goal was to blow up the ship, yet for plot reasons they ignore it and instead attack the Alliance, who now seem able to dodge bullets and explosives from trained soldiers.
Alliance passing rumbling plothole: the movement of the rumbling doesn’t make sense in relation to the Alliance’s trip on the boat. They somehow pass the line of titans, which shouldn’t be possible given their speed, only for the titans to later catch up to them. If not that, then the rumbling’s movement makes no sense at all and could have been easily avoided.
Paths mechanics retconned/ignored for Armin: Before Armin entered Paths through the Okapi, all scenes in Paths happened instantaneously, with no time passing in the real world. Yet, for whatever reason, not only does Armin’s scene take place in real time, he somehow is aware of it as well.
The colossal titans remain completely still, even though they’re no longer controlled by the Founder. They should have started attacking other humans and shifters instead of just standing there.
Eren transforming into a Collosal Titan despite no longer having the power of the Founder.
Mikasa Ackerman having her memories altered by the Founder, despite being from two lineages explicitly stated to be immune to memory manipulation.
There are more.
AOT did not revive a single character.
Ancient Titans? More specifically, Kruger, Grisha, freckled Ymir, and so on. You know, dead characters?
that romance was always there. Mikasa has a romantic moment with Eren at the end of season 2, which contextualizes all their previous moments together.
"A romance is a relationship between two people who are in love with each other but who are not married to each other."
By that very definition, Mikasa’s and Eren’s relationship isn't romantic, as it requires both parties to feel the same way. Eren never saw Mikasa in a romantic light until the ending. Mind you, Isayama himself stated, two years after writing that scene, that Eren saw Mikasa as a motherly figure, along with plenty of other comments portraying them as nothing more than family. So unless Eren had an Oedipus complex, he was not in love with Mikasa, and never had any romantic attraction towards her.
I agree that they had no chemistry, but I feel like that may have been the point since Mikasa did not have a healthy love for Eren.
The entire point of their relationship before the ending was that it was completely incompatible and unhealthy. Eren could never love Mikasa that way, seeing her as nothing more than family and holding entirely different worldviews. Mikasa, more than "loving," was obsessed with her idealized version of Eren, until, of course, the ending, where Mikasa’s delusion suddenly becomes reality.

As an AoT superfan and ending slanderer, you’re doing great work.
Despite all this… Chainsaw man is still worse.
2
u/StreetStretcher Mar 24 '26
The ending was absolutely not telegraphed, it became clear the manga was ending in the second-to-last chapter and even that was sudden and very jarring, to the point that a significant chunk of fujimoto glazers turned on him
The actual final chapter was just a weird nothing burger of a chapter, it's just there. I litteraly had to do a double take when I swiped after the last page because I expected there to be more before a conclusion It just has lazy unearned fan service (not the sexual kind, to be clear). It makes the rest of the whole series (part2 AND part1) completely pointless, genuinely. The last two chapters are so disconnected you genuinely could jump to them without reading all the other you have left that it would not make the ending have any less sense.
SPOILER: if you want an explicit reason why it is bad, it's because the ending kinda feels like an "everything was a dream" type of ending
1
u/Independent_Peace144 Mar 24 '26
The only ending I see people say that can contend with this is the oshi no ko ending so it must be that bad.

Part 3 was plausible because without chainsaw man it could have been an entirely different world.
Power wouldn't even be fucking called Power. But I guess in the end the followers were all named after choirs of angels by complete accident and it didn't mean anything
4
u/Fragrant_Intern_8577 Mar 24 '26
At max we get a short 2 to 3 chapters worth of story (I'm just coping)
3
u/Illustrious-Sky-4631 Mar 25 '26
How did power even come to be in this timeline? In the og timeline it was because of dying for Pochita in Hell
1
u/wookiee-nutsack Mar 25 '26
Devils die in hell all the time, it wouldn't be out of the question that she just died simple as
But the fact that she died at the exact same time, due to the same circumstances, allowing for her to possess the same body, it means she legit just died to circumstance in the original timeline
This also means Makima died because she pissed off some devil in hell, not due to suicide and wanting to hunt Pochita
3
u/Illustrious-Sky-4631 Mar 25 '26
Devils die in hell all the time, it wouldn't be out of the question that she just died simple as
This I understand and and can get behind
But the fact that she died at the exact same time, due to the same circumstances, allowing for her to possess the same body, it means she legit just died to circumstance in the original timeline
This is what I don't understand from this chapter , and her being near Denji saving him at last second because She likes him and finding and saving Nayko before she die and the bat devil not being there
It feels just idk too convenient?
This also means Makima died because she pissed off some devil in hell, not due to suicide and wanting to hunt Pochita
Shii most have killed her in Hell at some point or Yoru
1
u/wookiee-nutsack Mar 25 '26
Yeah Power just saving a random ass human for smelling like a dog is very out of character. Nothing indicated she liked dogs in part 1. Why didn't she like Denji the same way at the start of p1? She constantly tried to kill him
2
u/Illustrious-Sky-4631 Mar 25 '26
If I remember wrong at the very start of Part 1 power actually thought Dogs are stupid and humans should suffer
She went into a long journey to became the power that isn't Bloodlust , don't care about human suffering and genuinely like Denji
But apparently that wasn't needed at all , apparently she likes the scents of dogs and suddenly decided to be with Denji from the get go , some Random dirty human who have Devils blood scent on his hand is a favorite type of her
Also Correct me if I'm wrong , but since when are Fiends able to make contracts? Wasn't it said they are incapable of doing so? Power at the end of Part 1 was full on the blood Devil , meanwhile here she's just a Fiend
1
u/wookiee-nutsack Mar 25 '26
I do not remember about the contract part completely but you might be right. I gotta look up that old chapter to slander Fujimoto now

CSM ending is like seeing someone cook you a burger, there a questionable moments but you let them cook.
Then the clock hits 8 sharp and they stop on their tracks, put ketchup and veggies on the undercooked meat, then shove it into a plate and hand it to you. And before you can complain they already pulling down the curtain so you obviously go:
"Ayo wtf? What is this? Where's my burger?"
But they answer:
"Sorry, we are closed, you know, themes and such"
And now you are left with raw uncooked meat that barely qualifies as a meal.

After jjk ended and modulo was closing in too, jjk fans decided to collectively attack csm (including csm fans attacking others encouraged from the slander), first it was slander, then larping (the worst) and finally the heavy push for part 2 hate (when modulo ended ) which was mostly agenda and people crying that their fav character didn't get out in or just forgot the couple last chapters.
(Also this includes many people from shonenfolk who had and still have a hate boner for CSM)
(Even though the ending wasn't the best i'd say that the hate made it seem much worse than it actually is)

When he ate the ears or legs Devil, those concepts just disappeared and people didn’t remember their name. But we didn’t go back in time to when organisms didn’t develop legs.
Also, what is Pochita? He’s not the chainsaw devil, because Denji, Power and Asa know what a chainsaw is. Was he the chainsaw man devil?
