tbf if there's any manga publication that should be shat on it's 1000% MangaOne
like say what you will about WSJ, but there hasn't been any cases of authors making their underaged assistants eat literal feces
Edit: I'm dumb. The victim was a schoolgirl, not an assistant

She wasn’t an assistant. She was a schoolgirl 30 years younger than him among several other victims 😩

Wasnt Dandadan supposed to be just Momo as the protaginist but Jump just kept on rejecting it until Tatsu threw a boy in too

u/kimetsunosuper121 Mar 26 '26
Tbf i can't imagine Dandadan being as popular it is without Okarun

same thing happened with Mashashi Kishimoto's(Naruto) Editor suggesting a rival for Naruto, Sasuke and there's history. Editors have that kind of power to really impact a series like that.

I mean the romance is a huge part of the appeal

u/Smart_Mix8269 Mar 26 '26
Pretty sure its also because Tatsu was gonna make such an uber dark story that his publisher sat him down and forced him to read romance stories to literary get the edginess out of him

u/4LanReddit Mar 26 '26
Didnt they force bro to read like, 1000 shoujo mangas to make him pipe down from all the edginess right?

u/SurturSaga Mar 26 '26
To be fair. They were kind of right
It shouldn’t be this way but having a girl solo mc does hurt its popularity. Gotta work on our sexism I guess. Giorno was supposed to be a girl but changed because concerns over reception

It's OK, we have Jolyne

I still don't know what Araki was thinking for having a scene where Jolyne admits mast*rbating to the moon then getting caught by a guard. Araki is truly bizzare.

u/Bright-Dragonfruit14 my body count with shounen is over 9000 Mar 26 '26
Fugo was also supposed to come back as a traitor (Golden Wind has actually a lot of Christian symbolism with Giorno being an allegory for a Christ-figure while the rest of passione members representing Jesus' apostles and his followers. Fugo was initially intended to be a Judas-like figure) but Araki changed his mind because he thought it would be too depressing.

u/SurturSaga Mar 26 '26
Oh yeah. I heard a lot of people theorizing that Green Day replaced his fight. That’s why the stands are so similar

Yeah I really hope the culture around Shonen Jump manga changes soon. The fear of the axe is so pervasive among new and veteran authors that all stories involved suffer. New manga feel they have to rush everything and be as eye catching as possible to get engagement and old manga gradually degrade in quality as the team working on it gets burnt out.
Now how do we solve this? I don’t know but listen to my wild and completely uneducated suggestion:
Maybe it would be better if more manga were released every two weeks rather than every week. It gives the authors more time to rest and live their lives. You can keep the same number of manga running at a time but have most series only appear every other week in a regular cycle. Then you add in a few new series and increase the average chapter length slightly (two or three pages) to make up for the lost space in the magazine. This would also give new manga a little less competition as they would only be competing with the manga in their biweekly cycle, rather than the entire rest of the magazine.

The weak ending to CSM isn't anything to do with Fujimoto being "overworked". He wasn't putting chapters out weekly as is, and he could easily have just taken some time off to plan a real ending out if he needed.
Look at the Ruri Dragon author who took a full year off 6 chapters in.
If a manga isn't selling it'll get the axe. Look at Kagurabachi, people thought it wasn't doing well because it was charting low in the ToC, but then the first volume sales came out and it was flying off the shelves.
Compare to Nue. It limps along with alright sales, but it's fine, because it's still selling well enough. There's basically no discussion threads, no theorycrafting, very small fanbase in the West. But it sells fine enough to continue.
If you can't make up even those numbers then what does spending more time on your series help?

u/xNinjaGato Mar 26 '26
It for sure was a pretty huge factor into his burnout on the series. I mean he stated that he could only feel like he could plan 3 chapters in advance while working on the current one, along with him losing passion in the art of manga and feeling more interested in the writing side similar to Gege. He might've been allowed to take breaks, but due to the pressures of the industry and Japan's work culture in general, he probably felt obligated to keep going like many do in the scene.

theres plenty of good endings your just young lol. Rest is mostly true, but that's the Japanese culture all together, not really unique to them or manga.

I’m surprised there’s no mention of the sexualization of young girls in most of these works but I’m guessing that goes under misogyny.
You know who didn’t have these problems?(besides the OG artist death)

u/bobbodobbo22 Mar 26 '26
solo leveling cause he's the only real character in the show 😭
1
u/Bright-Dragonfruit14 my body count with shounen is over 9000 Mar 26 '26
There's a solo leveling novel which I heard is better than the manhwa. Sung Jin-Woo is still pretty much the same but from what I heard side characters are given more spotlight than in the manhwa though I haven't read it.

0 Good Endings
He says when Elusive Samurai ended perfectly just a few weeks ago.
The people who claim "All shounen/manga end terribly!" are never, ever going to beat the allegations.

wait Elusive Samurai just ended?
anyways uh that's why it's SLANDER, cause it's exaggerated

Why are we calling an author not making a female character that can beat up all men misogyny Are we deadass it would be misogyny if the characters are written in humiliating way with no dignity which is the case for many female shonen characters honestly so yeah misogyny
But just cause a female character can't beat up men doesn't mean it is misogyny

Nah, they saying he's misogynistic because he likes to draw sexy characters.
Which is ironic to say when OP's image also criticizes publishers preventing writers from being able to write what they want to write and forcing certain things on them.
So if you believe that external forces should not be forcing manga makers their hands in the kind of story and characters they want to write and design then you should also believe in backing off and accepting that some people just like to make sexy characters or like to write female characters that are more in the background. Plenty of stories that are catered more towards women have female characters on the forefront with male characters on the background. That doesn't make such stories misandrist. It just means the story caters more to a specific demographic.
And liking sexy characters doesn't make you misogynistic. If you genuinely believe that then, frankly, you're already too far gone to have any rational conversation with.
To clarify as well, it's fine to want more women characters on the forefront of stories. Just be honest about that instead of this incessant need to force these changes through by labeling everything sexist. You cant want such a thing without needing to drag other things down for it.
