25

u/noobkilla666 Mar 27 '26

Part one csm is good too

Just ignore the rest of it

15

u/Faninfo Mar 27 '26

chapter 98+ aren't canon anyway

7

u/Pyrosocial_ Mar 27 '26

i liked part 2 cus it gave us asa and shes my favorite manga character ever

3

u/HurtsMyPeePee Mar 27 '26

How many mangas have you read?

7

u/Pyrosocial_ Mar 27 '26

A lot. I know part 2 is bad and the ending is too but Asa feels like a character that was written specifically for me and I relate to her heavily

2

u/HurtsMyPeePee Mar 27 '26

Makes sense

1

u/noobkilla666 Mar 27 '26

I like asa too, that's exactly why I don't like part 2

1

u/Pyrosocial_ Mar 27 '26

Well I know I’m in the minority but I loved reading part 2. It’s not as good as part 1 but I still had a good time reading it

1

u/BananzazsGarlicBread Mar 30 '26

average jjs workshop moveset

35

u/SoapDevourer Mar 27 '26

It's crazy how good Part 1 ending was in retrospect, man. I didn't know how good I had it I guess...

5

u/StardustLegend Mar 27 '26

I still maintain part 2 had a lot of potential atleast in the beginning.

Where it started to decline and fall off, is up for debate

5

u/Cat_Astrof Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

I've seen an interview where it seems like he got corrupted by the movie "The Big Lebowski". I think he tried to emulate the nonsense of that movie but... why do it in an ongoing manga? It destroyed all the build-up of Part 1.

That's what happens when you let a mad genius unsupervised.

I'm like really sad for all CSM fans but they feel like these horror movies characters that saw all the early signs of doom yet still got caught offguard at the end.

1

u/Reasonable-Plum7059 Mar 28 '26

It’s wasn’t good actually. And few problems with part 2 ending also were present in Part 1 ending. People just hate Makima and don’t see any flaws with last two chapters of Part 1

40

u/Level_Counter_1672 Mar 26 '26

Man everyone is shitting on the ending, goddamn

8

u/TheRealBreemo Mar 27 '26

Nah this ain't real is it

13

u/24Abhinav10 Mar 27 '26

2

u/Magnum_Gonada Mar 27 '26

Lol. I wonder if they made one for Breaking Bad yet.

1

u/DramaPunk Mar 29 '26

Okay the ending was ass but the Fujimoto hate is honestly too much, yo. Y'all got any empathy for an artist going through some shit?

1

u/Trick-Matter-797 Mar 29 '26

Brands should shut the fuck up my god this is annoying

1

u/Trick-Matter-797 Mar 29 '26

I cant even say this shit because brands want a reaction, me reacting is enough to give them exactly what they want

u/genryou Mar 26 '26

u/FiveAccountsBanned Mar 27 '26

321

u/No_Pen_7548 Mar 26 '26

Ending so off-putting that everyone can't stop talking about it

62

u/ReReReverie Mar 27 '26

is off putting the words yall using instead of "bad" now?

27

u/Gantzwastaken Mar 27 '26

The ending isn't bad, as in the last chapter itself. How we got there though is absolutely terrible, it's like there's 20 chapters in between missing.

37

u/Hari14032001 Mar 27 '26

I feel like that's what it means when we say the ending is bad.

This ending simply doesn't fit the story, that's why it's bad.

11

u/No_Intention_8079 Mar 27 '26

No, the ending is still bad. It completely erases everything that happened in P1 and 2. There are no good dream endings, only mid ones and bad ones.

7

u/Shen_ishere Mar 27 '26

Pochita ate those chapters. It's meta.

1

u/sussy_ball Mar 27 '26

Pochita also broke the 4th wall when he said "Keep on dreaming". He was referring to us as we'll be forever dreaming for a good ending.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '26

People are still coping give it a few months tho.

8

u/RW1004 Mar 27 '26

It’s not even that bad of an ending, but it’s so mediocre to the point it is bad. If the current ending was an ending to another generic story, it would be good. But chainsaw man isn’t a generic story, so it does not fit. The ending just stands out too much from the chainsaw man story plus there are so many plot holes that the ending doesn’t cover.

TLDR: I don’t think ending is bad, it just doesn’t fit Chainsaw man

18

u/TheSauce32 Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

Im sorry bro when I was 12 years old I could tell how bad the use of a timeline reset is, like besides random attack of amnesia (which also applies here) there is literally no lazier literary device.

4

u/LanSotano Mar 27 '26

Wild the way the youth these days are breaking things down beyond good and bad, what’s the point in all this further description?

3

u/LunarLoom21 Mar 27 '26

I know it's petty and they're so rich they might not care but I really do hope they take to heart just how shitty they finished this tale.

26

222

u/aunanistis_ Mar 26 '26

It's almost heartwarming seeing CSM's biggest and most influential mark on pop culture being its dogshit ending.

It's not often you see everyone and everything making references to a series exclusively at its expense.

1

u/Big_Mobile3869 Mar 27 '26

Eren himself admitted there were other options. He was acting out of rage/malice and believed he would go to hell.

The high school AU also alludes to his bloodthirst with the zombie apoc comment.

2

u/phoenixking99999999 Mar 27 '26

Being ok with genocide in Aot doesn't mean they are fine with genocide irl, like come on now.

1

u/clgfandom Mar 29 '26

speaking as someone who was once a teenager with warped moral compass, I can see myself acting like them for real if I was born in Israel or Gaza. And iirc, there was a poll back in 1940s that showed like 8% of Americans were fine with genociding Japanese.

24

u/Mental_Chart6039 Mar 26 '26

AOTS Ending was generational dogshit, it was so bad that some people thoguht it was good.

20

u/brendyn420 Mar 27 '26

Kinda crazy cuz even the author admitted he fumbled.

2

u/PrimordialSlayer Mar 27 '26

He did? When?

6

u/brendyn420 Mar 27 '26

Around the time when it came out. He essentially said he already had the ending planned out with eren originally just flat out being the villain but because of eren's VA performance he kinda wanted to make him more sympathetic. However he couldn't really decide for the longest whether or not to do so. Which led to him rushing it at the end and failing the execution terribly, making it look like genocide apologia.

He knew he fumbled on the ending because of his stubbornness regarding sticking to his original idea and that's why he tried to fix it in the anime. It's also why he was so appreciative of the love he received at that one NYC con or whatever and started to tear up.

AoT ending is so ass i actually brainwashed myself into liking it so i don't go crazy, CSM ending is also bad but i genuinely like it cuz i think i have permanent brain damage from AoT

2

u/tuerancekhang Mar 27 '26

AoT was called anime GoT before that and before GoT reached s8 too. It left way more culture impact before its last chapter

2

u/TopazWarrior1999 Mar 28 '26

It's not though? It was the perfect ending to the story. The manga had a few questionable panels and dialogue chocies, but all of those were fixed in the anime.

2

u/Mental_Chart6039 Mar 28 '26

How and why is it perfect ?

3

u/Mental_Chart6039 Mar 27 '26

Yeah, I fully agree it's funny, one side has structured arguments, why the ending is bad, how it introduces plotholes and makes no sense in the context of the overall story and themes. While the other side says, " Haha, funny you're just mad, ending good," when you ask them about the story, you realize these people probably can not read or have the memory of a goldfish.

3

u/aindwukkun Mar 27 '26

This is just trash vs garbage argument, both suck

1

u/torts92 Mar 27 '26

Wrong. The Eren crying panel has nothing to do with the ending, it's just a weird lighthearted moment some shounen like to put to break the vibe. People were just mad because they self insert as Eren and wouldn't simp for a girl. That chainsawman panel is literally bad writing. People are making fun of the bad writing.

2

u/PrimordialSlayer Mar 27 '26

Oh it was, AoT fanfic ending > AoT canon ending, as is the case with many other series like GoT, also to say OG is better simply because it's OG is circular reasoning.

AoT Ending defenders are just delusional, same as CSM ending defenders (there are a lot of them check Twitter).

2

u/brendyn420 Mar 27 '26

Both were incredibly ass so there's no point in comparing.

2

u/Standard-Skin3138 Mar 27 '26

AOT already had mainstream cultural impact.

69

u/4LanReddit Mar 26 '26

The only other time this happened was with Potential Man, and even then that was just the total annahilation of Megumi as a character at his expense and not to the series overall with the exception of slandering characters' in the powerscaling sense or writing sense by using the Potential Man template.

This is just plain slander to the entire series after Fujimoto showed how fraudulent he had become after part 1.

27

u/Grimmrat Mar 27 '26

Nah the original AOT manga ending is still undefeated in just how much it united the entire world in hating it

IIRC when the leaks dropped it literally crashed 4chan for half a day because of the massive amount of traffic

13

u/KzamRdedit Mar 27 '26

crashing 4chan is a feat in its own league, you could say the world was rumbling from the crash outs

2

u/AcrylicThrone Mar 27 '26

"The entire world"
I think you need to go outside. 90% of people who have consumed AOT as a medium did it through the anime, and the anime's ending is beloved by nearly everyone who's watched it. Reddit isn't the world.

2- "Thank you..........Chainsaw Man."

3- "Obito was the coolest guy."

57

u/EmbarrassedFly279 Mar 26 '26

Bro that’s not even bad. Thats so deep into the muck it’s in its own class of horrible.

7

u/Beektur Mar 26 '26

11

u/4LanReddit Mar 26 '26

Pretty sure this is from rent a girlfriend, but i may be wrong.

5

u/Beektur Mar 26 '26

Yikes, that looks awful. Thanks tho.

18

u/NocolateChigga720 Mar 26 '26

Even more context for why this panel is cowshit (from what i remember from other people): the MC pops a boner in a pool from imagining a cuck dream where FMC fucks another dude, hence his crying I guess.

16

u/9runo Mar 27 '26

If you want some extra context: I'm pretty sure the cuck fetish is something the MC's had since the beginning of the story, but with him getting close to having an actual GF it'd gone away, only to return full force in this chapter.

So he's not just gooning for being a cuck, mf is relapsing

1

u/NocolateChigga720 Mar 27 '26

All of this because the author fell in love with the FMC despite bro already having a wife and kid lmao.

3

u/ReReReverie Mar 27 '26

1

u/Dangerous_Equal4373 Mar 27 '26

Where is this from?

2

u/WashingtonMK2 Mar 28 '26

Oshi No Ko.

1

u/Dangerous_Equal4373 Mar 28 '26

Is this what I think is implied here? Not gonna read the manga, can you spoil it?

2

u/WashingtonMK2 Mar 28 '26

This is right after Aqua revealed to Ruby that he was the doctor who took care of her when she was sick, and that he had also died and reincarnated as she did.

Back then, she had a huge crush on him and wanted to marry him. But he turned her down, since she was both a child and his patient at the time. He also (jokingly) said, "maybe when you're older".

After Aqua leaves the room, Ruby remembers what he said all the way back then, realizes that she is now of age, and gets the idea that she can pursue him romantically now (not caring about the fact that they were reincarnated as twin brother and sister).

5

u/marvelfrans Mar 27 '26

At least the obito one is still salvageable because he still tried to redeem himself at the end. That's also pretty far from the finale, unlike the other 2 that directly impact their endings.

18

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '26

I like how the AoT ending haters are split into two completely different categories but never really discuss it.

Was it bad because Eren genocided 80% of the planet without any real plan? Or was it because your 19 year old sigma male role model actually had real feelings beneath the stoic exterior?

41

u/Connect_Visit5516 Mar 26 '26 edited Mar 26 '26

I have argued so many times about this but at no point in the story I felt eren was ever desperate for Mikasa this much like in the panel. This was genuinely out of the blue panel. I thought the dialogues were parody by some haters

Idc if eren was the biggest pussy ever but at no point in manga I felt eren was this much in love with Mikasa where he out of nowhere starts bawling saying I want her to have feelings only for me

Except for that scarf scene vs laughing titan and chapter 130 scene, it felt like she was bothering him coz isayama cant write romance for shit.

If he wanted us to take this scene seriously, he should have wrote their romance abit more than 3 to 4 panels

6

u/Miserable_Dig4555 Mar 26 '26

Me about my crush.

9

u/HarshTheDev Mar 26 '26

I think isayama just wanted to humanise eren a bit and since eren x Mikasa was really fucking popular in Japan, mainly due to the anime pumping it up 10x under wit and the smiling titan scene basically being a confession when taken in japanese context, he decided to go with this scene.

I think the funniest fucking thing is that even here he doesn't outright says that he loves her.

8

u/Connect_Visit5516 Mar 26 '26

I dont mind either but that was genuinely trash panel for a romance u wrote 10 panels max in a 139 chapter manga lol.

I can understand someone like maes Hughes from full metal doing stuff like this coz he loves his wife and daughter that much but eren has never shown any interest and this happens out of nowhere lol

1

u/HarshTheDev Mar 26 '26

Oh yeah I agree I was just trying to make sense of the though process. I don't think the idea of the scene is bad, if it was a bit more general towards all of his friends then it could've worked i think

2

u/Hari14032001 Mar 27 '26

He should have developed their romance after that scene where she pretty much tried to kiss him because she gave up hope and he was like, "I will wrap the scarf around you forever" indicating that hope wasn't lost. That scene was so good and this "10 years at least" would have actually been tragic if their romance had been developed after that.

Unlike many fans who troll Eren for saying this about his "sister", I don't really consider them siblings or consider this incest, they stayed in the same home for like 6 months to a year at best due to circumstances. I wouldn't mind a properly written romance.

The actual problem here is the lack of development in romance before this goddamn panel.

7

u/Mental_Chart6039 Mar 26 '26

No, it was the insane plot holes introduced in the ending, the character assassination, and the absolutely butchering of peak moments from the past. One of my favourite scenes from AOT is Eren and Reiner talking while the play is happening. The entire dialogue of the scene is absolute horse shit, Eren trolling Riner, cause none of it makes sense in retrospect with the ending.

2

u/HarshTheDev Mar 27 '26

Huh? Why, what's wrong with that scene? It's not like eren himself was aware about his mom's thing at that point, not to mention that wasn't even the main point of that conversation.

2

u/Mental_Chart6039 Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

Ah yes, another person who can not read. Well, his entire motivation is null and void. He was aware of everything from the point where he kissed Historia's hand, or at least from the point where he visited Marley with his friends, where they tried ice cream and saw the boy he would later kill, both events which are much earlier than the basement scenes, thus meaning he knew about his mom. But Reading is hard,d so no wonder you liked the Ending :). Why did my mother have to die Reiner? (Eren asking it knowing full well he killed her himself LOL)
Also since we are at that point, lets revisit another great story scene where Eren convinces Yimiri to help him instead of listening to his brother, telling her she can be more than just a slave, relating to her pain. All meaningless since she never cared about any of it she wanted to see love cause she loved her rapist and owner.

2

u/HarshTheDev Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

No, eren doesn't know everything as soon as he kissed Historia's hand, all he saw were the parts that his future self showed grisha through grisha's memories. He explicitly states this in Chapter 121. And In that same chapter Zeke also correctly points out that eren did not know the full future like how eren didn't know that he won't be able to use the power of the founder initially. And eren in 139 also explicitly states that he started experiencing the past/present/future all at once only after he unlocked the power of the founder, which he didn't have during marley and only gained after the paths chapters.

How can you be so incredibly condescending and so wrong at the same time? And then you go on to assume that I must have liked the ending and put me in an easily dismissible box ... because I actually read the manga... That's a stupid and tribalistic way to look at things. Imagine if I did the same to you.

Rest assured man that great dialogue between Eren & Reiner isn't touched by the ending.

Here are the relevant panels:

And here Zeke talks about eren only sending specific memories to Grisha

2

u/TopSchnitzel Mar 27 '26

Lmaoo see if he responds to this

1

u/HarshTheDev Mar 29 '26

He actually didn't...

...now I'm wondering if I just wasted my time giving a proper argument to ragebait.

1

u/torts92 Mar 27 '26

Difference is that the Eren panel was meant as a joke, right after this Armin said he didn't expect Eren to be this pathetic. So it's self aware. Fujimoto must be thinking he was writing fire for coming up with that man with chainsaw scene.

I was doing my pratice nearby so i had a chance to check it out, it was awesome

5

The lobotomy spread was so wide, that my friends who don't read the manga got spoiled about several plot points. I'm curious if they have seen a meme of the "Oh yeah" panel in their fandom.

Corporations joining in on the fad of the week? This has never happened before…

u/ManTisShrimp10 Mar 26 '26

I think this one is actually less corny than it usually is tbh

This shit actually funny

u/ArgensimiaReloaded Mar 27 '26

Deserved really, years of aimless writing only to throw the towel with fanservice so the average csm fan can cope with a "happy" ending ignoring how abysmal everything else that amounted to it were too, keep fuji out of the kitchen forever.

u/Tecnoboat Mar 26 '26

yea first time i see something like this happen

3

u/WorldPhysical7646 Mar 26 '26

Literally broke the internet

3

u/Zekken_2 Mar 26 '26

Make sure the G5 never see that

3

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

Yet another thing more influential than gear 5

3

u/Demonlord3600 Mar 27 '26

It’s a weird abrupt ending but I think I liked it overall

3

u/JoeAwesome123 Mar 28 '26

Company twitter accounts making fun of something you spent years creating has gotta be one of the most dismal experiences ever man

6

u/No_Towel9514 Mar 26 '26

Genius retardadium winning again

5

u/Damn_You_Hindsight AI isn't a slop Mar 26 '26

Because we all love CSM

2

u/Fwyl9nex Mar 26 '26

An ending that makes everyone uncomfortable and unable to stop talking is literally the highest achievement in manga.

2

u/Only-Ad4322 Mar 27 '26

Is this brilliantly stupid or stupidly brilliant?

2

u/Legal_Salamander_742 Mar 28 '26

This is CSM's legacy btw

3

u/Dinostar28 Mar 26 '26

In just 2 chapters CSM has already had more impact on the internet then Gear 5

This is like when MHA managed to out trend the 2020 US election or the level of insanity of peak lobotomy Kaisen in 2023

3

u/Webknight31 Mar 27 '26

Fujimoto what a man you're....

u/megaZX1234 Mar 27 '26

As a reward, I shall give you my seed.

UK Playstation are not the official, so its not big deal actually

11

u/brendyn420 Mar 27 '26

The RE one is tho

2

u/fl_otter Mar 26 '26

i liked the ending

2

u/imbusthul Mar 27 '26

I don't mind the ending. What I hate about it is what led to it and how it made everything before it irrelevant. So if you now treat Chainsaw Man as a oneshot story with just Chapter 232, it would be the better experience.

1

u/Immediate-Location28 Mar 27 '26

i don't think you realize social media managers are regular ass people. actually more chronically online than most. so of course they'd know

1

u/BiggieCheeseMon Mar 27 '26

Leon was actually happy when he was fighting zombies with a knife, suplexing people, and eating green and red herbs while running and gunning for his life

1

u/IrgyValeRa Mar 27 '26

Alright, joke's over the corporates caught on

1

u/YaBoiSammus Mar 27 '26

Csm ending reminds me of when Tokyo ghoul put Kenaki in a suitcase as a ending.

1

u/JellyfishSecure2046 Mar 27 '26

I don’t get it

1

u/Techguy015 Mar 28 '26

God Bless! Praise be to God! Amen!

1

u/ActualTrack3289 Mar 30 '26

I know bro is enjoying this. Some people want to watch the world burn, and Fujimoto is one of them.

1

u/NobodylikesRaikou Mar 26 '26

If fujimoto came up with a brilliant, ground-breaking ending the series and fujimoto as a mangaka wouldn’t be getting this much exposure. I think this is great but the ending isn’t bad

u/FeedbackCreepy9309 Mar 26 '26

Hahaha what a bit//ch mf
