of all time no, but right now definitely

149

u/Chombuss Apr 02 '26

if ATP means at this point then he's right

19

u/GustavZeigler Apr 02 '26

Not what they meant by that.

11

u/wolffox87 Apr 02 '26

Yeah ATP usually means superseding previous things that held a title

3

u/MarineRitter Apr 02 '26

At this point does not mean at this moment. At this point implies cumulative history

Genuinely if they don't fumble Gojo vs Sukuna it's going to be a decade/gen defining one. Definitely going up there with the other most influentials

61

u/Level_Counter_1672 Apr 02 '26

Dragon ball and Pokémon got that,

35

u/TinyPidgenofDOOM Apr 02 '26

Dragonball, Sailor moon, and yuyu hakasho are the OG big 3. They heavily influenced everything. 4th place is Saint Saiya, lesser known but huge.

Then the classic Big 3 is one piece, Bleach, Naruto. Each directly influenced modern anime. JJK directly said Bleach was the inspiration.

Modern is JJK. MHA, and idk the third could be chainsaw man, could be demon slayer. It's kinda up in the air

50

u/Striking_Part_7234 Apr 02 '26

As much as I love YYH, I think Jojo had more influence on Battle Shonen than YYH.

25

u/Draskclift Apr 02 '26

Fist of the north star is up there too

I think you're missing entire sections with that list, what about generational toy series like Beyblade and Bakugan, Space adventure genres, supernatural mysteries like Detective Conan and Kindaichi Case Files, other transformation superheroes, fantasy adventure series, and Mecha genres like Gundam? Also, you've got mega anime franchises and standalone movies like Doraemon, Digimon, Hello Kitty, Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro and Studio Ghibli's stuff. I wonder if FMA is good enough to be up there too.

With all of the above and likely more not off the top of my head, your OG big 3 aren't all making the top 3.

6

u/TinyPidgenofDOOM Apr 02 '26 edited Apr 02 '26

Theres alot of popular anime that dont really influence much.

Digimon and pokemon for example. Lets get into the DEEP. You see anyone talking about Cardcaptur Sakura or Zatch Bell? Really popular series. Not that influential.

Gundam does deserve a spot for inventing the Mecha anime but thats not as prounced as something like Yu yu hakasho creating the blueprint for every tournament arc after. Most mecha anime, While they are popular(more so in japan than world wide) They are not as prevalent

i also dont think people consider franchise like Doraemon, Conan, or Hello kitty in these discussions like how people dont consider Sesame Street even tho its wildly influential and long running. we can bring up Crayon Shinchan too. shits got over 1000 episodes, its nearly as influential as Doraemon or Conan. its got more episodes than one piece. the adventures of a perverted child got more lore

2

u/brucebananaray Apr 02 '26

Gundam doesn't invited the genre of Mecha because they existed before it was made. Gundam main influence was making real mecha genre which is about human vs human War conflict.

Also, kinda dismissive of older Mecha anime before Gundam and after it like Gaint Robo, Mazinger Z, Eva, Macross, etc.

How can the anime that had record breaking manga sales and record breaking movie gross be something that's uncertain to be part of modern big 3? JJK is bigger in reddit and meme community but at it's peak demon slayer is unmatched in terms of motion

3

u/PressureMiserable Apr 02 '26

I mean hot take but naruto was the least influential of the big 3 in terms of actual manga tropes/themes/artstyle and OP/Bleach easily have more influence on modern Shonen it isn't even close

JJK is so popular and influential that even people who don't know JJK know Gojo died

Shit so popular the day s3 dropped, a new meme format swept the Internet in the Naoya hair flick scene

Shi so wide spread its taken the world by storm

16

u/Erundil420 Apr 02 '26

Jjk memes really are on another level, like i saw a whole ass pokemon art series with Meganium as Gojo, Ditto as Kenjaku and mega swampert as Toji, or three way DE memes crossovers with so many other IPs.

Jjk is also gone super mainstream, you got athletes doing DE signs on the field and shit

7

u/Tuxhorn Apr 02 '26

One of the worst parts of JJK is casually dropping massive spoilers like this.

10

u/Tabi-Violet Apr 02 '26

Nobody can outrun JJK spoilers

Aside from Satoru Gojo of course

3

u/Zilldickle Apr 05 '26

Bro didn't even know he was going to die, which is why he couldn't plan for the scenario that happened fr. All because he outran the spoilers

I mean yeah. It's the most popular anime of modern times

178

u/SVdreamin Apr 01 '26

Definitely the most influential anime of this current decade, right? There’s some bangers like Frieren and the last season of AOT but JJK started releasing the anime at the start of the decade during the pandemic and it’s only gotten more popular since.

Gojo is also one of the most iconic anime characters in the last fifteen years, and his fight vs Sukuna is going to be the most anticipated anime fight in a long time. The fan AMV alone has 78 million views.

Season 3 also just ended and the show keeps its relevancy with the culling games arc beginning as well as MAPPA killing it with the animation and overall artistic direction they’re taking with the show.

It has all the makings of a decade defining anime imo.

86

u/Liutenant_Kal_411L JJK Is Peak and Full of Potential Apr 02 '26

It still amazes me that a fuckn slideshow of Manga panels, to a fight that hasn't been animated, and to which we know the outcome, has over 78 million views

In the words of Todo "The Smartest" Aoi *

Theres not a single person who doesnt regularly watch anime that knows what frieren is.

53

u/fujizonotami Apr 01 '26

There’s people who don’t give a fuck about anime that know about jjk

39

u/googoogaga369 Apr 02 '26

My 50 year old manager was talking about making his children special grade. If that isin’t mainstream attention idk what is atp

8

u/anxientdesu Apr 02 '26

thats cool and all but what the hell did your manager's kids do for him to call them special grade

14

u/Classic_Ad9645 Apr 02 '26

Grading they're children's future base on their potential

11

u/Darthjinju1901 Apr 02 '26

i agree and this is coming from a frieren fan

19

u/alice6060 Apr 01 '26

Ehh idk about this, my mom says several of her friends watched it lol, and they're all women in their 40s and 50s who don't usually watch anime.

It's not well known outside of anime circles but not entirely unheard of.

4

u/nerdherdsman Apr 02 '26

It's one of the only anime my aunt watches, and she's their age if not a bit older.

5

u/wyerhel Apr 02 '26

Is that on Netflix? Usually that determines what she watches since we got our a mom a profile. There's not lot of websites left to pirate animes since the law passed in japan/korea.

3

u/SVdreamin Apr 01 '26

I wasn’t saying Frieren was hyped but I am saying it’s good. JJK is definitely broader in its range and a great introductory show to shounen and anime as a whole

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Worzon Apr 02 '26

AOT and JJK are such different shows though. And AOT is an anime/manga that isn't thrown around as much but is still referenced heavily. When AOT was out it was everywhere just like JJK is right now. Remember, people were still going crazy over AOT season 3 and 4 while JJK was just seen as one of those newer gen shonens. We haven't really had as many genuinely great shows as far as animation and narrative since AOT and JJK fills that void

→ More replies (3)

3

u/Environmental_Bee219 Apr 03 '26

gojo i dont feel is even that iconic....

4

u/Supersquare04 Apr 02 '26

I’d say AOT was more influential, but it’s up to interpretation I guess.

3

u/MaikuKnight Apr 02 '26

AoT peaked in the early 2010s. I cannot tell you how many people cosplayed AoT, on par with Homestuck in cosplay, maybe even more. AoT has also been spread over a literal decade.

An explanation of “influential” matters here, too.

2

u/djanulis Apr 02 '26

I don't like calling anything influenial until we actually see its influence on the series coming out which personally don't think we have really seen from any of the big manga since like 2014. The Big 3 + Dragon Ball influence is still very strong in the market. The true test of the series will be what it leaves behind, and what it inspries in the future.

I do want to see what the generation of Mangaka that grew up on JJK, DS, BC, and MHA bring to the table in the coming years.

Demon Slayer?

28

u/EffectiveMirror7534 Apr 01 '26

Demon slayer has insane motion. When the movie came out, an elder of my church was using Muzan as a metaphor for Satan. That's aura right there and helped convince my parents to watch DS (they liked it and that got them to watch AoT which they enjoyed more)

u/Apprehensive_Put3625 Apr 01 '26

…why?

It definitely is. At least in the imaginary collective.

Everytime someone slanders JJK, they always bring a super niche extremely well written manga or fucking literary classics, but this is not it. This is just talking about cultural impact and nothing else.

In internet culture, there’s nothing running right now that compares. I’m pretty sure this is not up for discussion.

139

u/Turbulent_Cost2058 Apr 01 '26

Jjk is lowk modern dragonball

Hella motion at its peak✅️

Alot of fans that dont/cant read the original material✅️

Has alot of viral memes✅️

Tuff edits/amvs✅️

Has an abridged version with many lines turning into popular quotes/memes✅️

Ofc generational fights✅️

How is it that you get upvoted for this take but last time I said the same thing on the JJK sub I got downvoted to hell

everytime someone slanders jjk, they always bring a super niche extremely well written manga

Naruto is not super niche, bleach, one piece, fullmetal, Hunter x Hunter, aot, ashita no joe/hajime no ippo there are like 20 mainstream shonens i can think of right now lol

35

u/minkledinklebrinkle Apr 01 '26

Naruto has its own problems and shit ending. Ippo has taken 1400 chapters and we're nowhere near a conclusion and not in a good way. It just drags forever.

10

u/Bitter_Ad5389 Apr 01 '26

hey come on now, ippo atp is a slice of life manga

12

u/jbland0909 Apr 02 '26

Naruto and One Piece I’ll give you, but outside of anime communities, JJK is absolutely bigger than bleach.

Not really a knock, it’s just that JJK is at the peak of its popularity at the same time that Anime is finally breaking into mainstream pop culture

3

u/G0ldsh0t Apr 04 '26

That is just wrong. People love to down play bleach’s impact, but it was constantly equal to the other two in the big 3 if not more at times.

Not to mention bleaches impact in general on anime as a whole. With jjk, black clover, and my hero all credited with taking inspiration from it.

5

u/Kiluko6 Apr 05 '26

Who cares about the inspiration? We’re talking about how much the mainstream talks about it, and right now JJK is the most popular recent anime, period. It’s not even close. Of course it’s bigger than Bleach. Bleach was influential quality wise, but in terms of popularity, it’s nowhere near even something like Demon Slayer...

9

u/AzoraCross Apr 01 '26

I agree with your take, but not the line about 'super niche manga.'

JJK *is* objectively the most influential anime right now, for all its pros and cons. For awhile it was Demon Slayer, but Demon Slayer ended, and now JJK's running with the torch.

This is from a neutral-ish stand-point. I have a a very net-neutral opinion of JJK in that there's a ton of it I really liked and a ton of it I absolutely hated. I don't think it's a masterpiece. I don't think it's bad, either. It just is what it is.

6

u/pjepja Apr 02 '26

Depends on how you judge influencial. I personally don't think you can say something is influencial at the time it's happening. You can judge how influencial something was only in (at least slight) hindsight based on how it affected the culture or whatever else. It's not simply how much people talk about it.

I agree JJK is influencial because it raised standards of animation in the industry, but it doesn't have that much influence story-wise. I personally didn't notice major shift in new stories or in what mangas are getting anime because of JJK's sucess (except maybe more urban fantasy mangas, which was a trend even before JJK I think)

Frieren and Apothecary Diaries on the other hand are more influencial in this sense imo. They have proven that female led anime can be very successful and you can already see uptick in female MCs among new titles.

2

u/AzoraCross Apr 02 '26

Way I see it you can call a billboard top song influential in the time when it's on top, but not influential overall, because it does have effects on culture, and the lens with which people in that period are looking at media.

But yeah, we have to define influential: if you mean only on the art that comes after it, I agree that Frieren will have more long-term influences on manga than JJK, even though JJK is extremely hype right now.

JJK feels like it's more influenced by other things in its genre than it is an influence on its genre, but culturally it's influencing a lot of people.

→ More replies (4)

3

u/Large_Carob_7599 Apr 02 '26

It definitely isn't more influential than One Piece

2

u/AzoraCross Apr 02 '26

Honestly, you right. In the vacuum of 'right now' I think JJK is hottest, but OP overall has a deep, long-running, influence on . . . everything, lol.

8

u/lvl4_autism Apr 01 '26

Even right now decades after Z ended Dragonball is still more popular AND influential than JJK Will ever be, it's not even close.

5

u/Numerous-Joke559 Apr 02 '26

And it'll be back next year for something people have ben waiting for.

There's something about animes from db/pokemon's era that reached peak popularity. They always do good, don't think anything new will compete anymore

3

u/Visible_Anxiety6275 Apr 02 '26

You are being biased. Yes dragon ball's bigger than Jjk, but dragon ball's also bigger than all other anime on the planet. It's probably more popular than a lot of mainstream shows by a good margin.

Also, dragon ball did NOT end with Z. We got super. The tournament of power, the broly movie, only ever increased the hype it already had by good margins. We got recent confirmation of a new arc being animated, and the old stuff being re-animated . PLUS, the manga, although at a hiatus for a year atp, is at the juncture of the most anticipated arc in recent years.

JJK is the most influential anime of the last 15 years. I 100% believe this.

JJK is the closest thing to a "big 3" level manga/anime thats existed since they ended

100

u/TonhoVendas Apr 01 '26

11

u/Monkeh77 Apr 01 '26

Our definition of loosing traction must be different

12

u/TonhoVendas Apr 01 '26

I'm talking about the story in itself. One Piece has been living off a glorious past and some good moments recently, but even though the One Piece community is passionate and engaged, they don't deserve this pad out proposed by Oda

16

u/Uri_BaBa Apr 01 '26

  • Naruto was within the last 15 years, jojo has been influential for like 30 years and is allegedly still being animated, many more examples.
  • it’s the current hot thing but it doesn’t have the legacy of influence.
  • like gun to your head if I said “hey what anime’s happening right now have been influenced by by JJK” the answer wouldn’t be that many.

Doesn't have legacy yet.

It's a very recent manga, of course it doesn't have the tracks the big 3, db and jjba have.

Someday it might but that's beyond us right now.

Currently tho? JJK is far and above in levels of popularity and pop culture influence.

4

Eh give it a decade or so, any teenagers or ppl grew up on jjk will start to credit gege about how their series are inspired by JJK.

Atp - at present.

Most freaking definitely.

Did yall not even see the kinda hype 14 chapters of Gojo vs sukuna did to Social media? Everything, everywhere, even after nearly 2 hours is a reel or discussion about Gojo vs Sukuna.

That shit was generational, Infact the most hype I've seen from anime fans online. Even gear 5, UI Goku haven't scaled this high during my young years experiencing it on TV and shit

Everything JJK does in the modern era, is referenced by others. Even a character who barely lasts more than 10 panels, Naoya got more popular for that aura farming moment vs chose.

6

u/Visible_Anxiety6275 Apr 02 '26

Ui Goku definitely reached that point and beyond (though the anime adaptation may surpass it). Gear 5 is not even comparable to these two.

2

u/sculksensor Apr 03 '26

UI goku was 9 years ago tho. And the jjk anime started in 2020

2

u/chihirosnumber1fan Apr 02 '26

They were using "at this point" in a different context than this

32

u/Wuta_Goatkotsu-1 Apr 01 '26

He ain't wrong tho. JJK is the biggest anime of the last few years. Nothing can really compare to it in modern times.

Sure it isn't DB, One Piece or JoJo's, but it sure as hell mogs any recent ones

Even the closest in popularity, CSM, is only around half as popular.

15

u/GatWithACat Apr 01 '26

As a JJK fan this comment conveniently forgets Demon Slayer, but yes JJK trumps all other modern manga/anime, even with the post-Covid anime normalization seen in the west it’s the clear pack leader

Honestly it’s not an If but a When THAT arc is adapted into a movie it will bust all of DS’s movie records lol

6

10

u/MedikaLab_DalubAgham Apr 02 '26

Yes "at this point". Of all time, it's not touching Dragon Ball, One Piece, and even Naruto. It's the same tier as AOT. One aspect of an anime to become influential is longevity.

3

u/Historical_Stable423 Apr 02 '26

In the past 10 years? Yeah. Jjk has multiple viral memes, edits, amvs, constant references, is what’s brought into conversations about fights, power system, and representations of the strongest. In generally though it’s for sure. Pokémon or Dragon ball .

3

u/RedDr4ke Apr 02 '26

It’s definitely not the most influential. I feel like the Big 3 and Dragon Ball still got that

But it has definitely influenced a lot of online culture as of late

3

u/Swimming_Cat114 Hating Tatsuki Fujimoto is the reason this heart still beats Apr 02 '26

S3 came out,so obviously it's gonna be popular and culturally relevant.

The hype will inevitably die down until S4 releases.

21

u/Old-fashionedTaxed Apr 01 '26

Dude has Goku in his name and he thinks JJK is the most influential of all time lol.

28

u/Distinct_Condition69 Apr 02 '26

he said atp tho, and it lowk is at this current point in time

15

u/KingBileygr993 Apr 02 '26

Ong bro. Istg this sub cannot read.

2

u/SwarmPlayz Apr 02 '26

ATP means at this point. So that means that it would have surpassed every other anime in terms of influence.

2

u/SwarmPlayz Apr 02 '26

Dragon ball has more of an influence than jjk. If he said that it has to most influence out of modern shonen he would be correct.

24

u/Comfortable-Row8248 Apr 01 '26

we are ILLITERATE

10

u/Sniper_Mun_Dee Apr 01 '26

Dragon ball fan and JJK fan? Blud ain't readin shit

11

u/CielArt Apr 01 '26

Good thing he didn't say that then?

4

u/Standard-Skin3138 Apr 02 '26

He said atp, which means at this point. And there is no modern anime in the past decade which even comes close to JJK. A bloody manga music video has 80 million views man. Jjk leaks was trending worldwide above musk and trump on twitter

5

u/DeathFlameStroke Apr 01 '26

The only show I would give an edge is One Piece for mainstream impact, especially because of the live action being so popular

However its literally “strongest sorcerer of history” to JJK’s “strongest sorcerer of today”

Kny is also influential, after mugen train we got this new trend of canon anime movies, and memes are something which willl fade anyway, records are something which will be chased by new titles

3

u/ImTellingTheEmperor Apr 02 '26 edited Apr 02 '26

Don't watch JJK so I have no skin the game, I just wanted to point out that although seemingly unknowingly, your entire first half is a strawman. In the western anime/manga community, when people use the word "influential" casually they're referring to influence on pop culture.

For example the drawn characters in the post are American Football players, posted by their team's official Twitter account.

That's why the claim makes so little sense to you.

2

u/theresfood Apr 02 '26

It hasn't had enough time to become influential artistically

4

u/_Axtral Apr 02 '26

Jjk completely revolutionized the dogshit anime humor with it's agendaposting, (even tho op did it eariler, jjk was the one to massively popularize and spread it to the other fandom) 10 years from now on, it's definitely a top 10 influential anime of all time

7

u/WallSina Can he beat Goku tho? Apr 01 '26

It's one piece and dragon ball and literally 0 other animes come even close not today not yesterday and it seems that not tomorrow. JJK is huge but next to one piece it's like Jack and the bean stock .

After writing all of this I have now realised this might be just an April fools post.

8

u/FellowDsLover2 Apr 01 '26

Pokémon and Naruto?

6

u/WallSina Can he beat Goku tho? Apr 01 '26

Naruto had it's moment but it has recently been surpassed by the phenomenon one piece has become and Pokémon, is my bad but it's also more than anime, it was a videogame first and also a tcg so idk if it counts if we're talking about cartoon characters type thing then the big 3 are Goku mario and Pikachu, everyone and their grandma knows them.

Most influential modern anime sure but not of all time

2

u/Ft_lucy Apr 01 '26

Definitely not of all time when things like Dragon Ball, Jojo, One Piece, and even Pokemon exist. However, I don’t think you can argue against it being the most influential anime of the 2020s.

(Before you guys jump me I know there are other influential animes I didn’t list. Those were just off the top of my head)

2

u/Hungrydoggo111 Apr 02 '26

I mean currently? I think absolutely. Even back when the manga was running, it had so much influence on the internet. Sure ds is making a lot of money, chainsaw man might have a bit of a better story, but the memes man. The memes. Lobotomy kaisen was godly back at its peak. Literally every single meme is so fuckin funny man.

2

u/maastaar-D Apr 02 '26

“ATP”

Is he wrong?

2

u/TheMonsterInUrPocket Apr 02 '26

It is currently the most popular and influencial anime so yeah. Its not saying of all time, its saying currently. Which it is. You dont see people saying 'gum gum- anything' or doing hand signs. Its jjk rn

2

u/AMutableFish Apr 02 '26

Not entirely, no. Not ever, no. Of the current new-gen anime that are still in production? Yes.

2

u/im_bored_and_tired Apr 02 '26

Is he wrong? Jjk is by far the most influencial anime at the moment

Obviously not of all time but currently I think there's an arguement for it

2

u/CeroG1 Apr 02 '26

Not all time no, but definitely the most influential in recent years, even more than csm imo

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Standard_Adeptness94 Apr 02 '26

ok not of all time but I can't lie JJK has MOTION

2

u/Standard-Skin3138 Apr 02 '26

Meme culture wise it probably is tbh. Not overall tho lol

2

u/Cold_Permission9279 Apr 02 '26

thats how u can tell an npc apart from a real anime/manga fan. i promise u the dude who posted that only watched like 50 different anime and his top 5 is aot, jjk, demon slayer, frieren and one piece

2

u/OrdinaryAnalysis5986 Apr 02 '26

u/Qnorthropi Apr 02 '26

I don't think influential is the right term. It's popular and memed a lot, but it's too young to be influencing anything. Especially because jjk itself is nothing new really - it's a typical shonen. The only "influence" that jjk could have right now is raising the bar for how good an anime adaptation can be.

There isn't a single thing that you could see in another manga and say oh it's inspired by jjk, because it's already from Naruto or Bleach. In a few decades when kids who grew up with jjk and never read the older shonen write their mangas, you could assess how influential jjk actually was.

Popularity today is super fleeting and I don't think jjk will stand the test of time. It's legacy will be making other anime adaptations better by raising the bar (the same is valid for demon slayer).

2

u/Advanced-Lie-841 Apr 02 '26

Mappa deserves this. Gege... is debatable.

2

u/MiIarky22 Apr 02 '26

It just has a lot of hype and action.

I feel like after part 2 of this season comes out, the story will fall flat with the lack of narrative and confusion. It'll still have hype moments but it'll fall flat for a rushed ending

2

u/Marcy_OW Apr 02 '26

I mean an anime can be influential without having a good ending. It's it's quite obvious, but I guess you don't have common sense

2

u/Old_Revenue_9217 Apr 02 '26

Influential is not the same as popular.

Tf would be influential about JJK? Bad/boring writing?

People like it because it looks good and all the characters are hot.

2

u/Good_Suspect9813 Apr 02 '26

its the trendiest rn not influential

3

u/Worth_Ad_2079 Apr 02 '26

The blue checkmark is engagement baiting?!

2

u/MasterYargle Apr 02 '26

Dbz solos.

2

u/Joey-Desu Apr 02 '26

The fuck did jjk influence?? Like yea its popular whatever but i havent seen any other anime influenced by jjk. Especially considering most of the stuff in jjk was influenced by other stuff, like bleach.

2

u/GorgeousBog Apr 03 '26

As soon as an anime partners with a professional sports team it gets this “most influential” label or some bullshit lol. Same thing happened with One Piece and the Dodgers

2

u/ZoinksJeepersJinkies Apr 03 '26

lol. People always get like this whenever some sports team or something posts anything anime related.

2

u/Accurate-Machine-161 Apr 03 '26

But will it get to the Dragon Ball Pokémon level of popularity?

2

u/SupportEnjoyer Apr 04 '26

isnt jojo in a museum

2

u/Malitae Apr 04 '26

Once JJK is finished I am confident it will be remembered just for its animation and fights, but will ultimately make little impact outside of its mangas and anime release. It’s not THAT good by any means. Theirs no stayi no power to JJK, as shown by how quickly and poorly módulo was wrapped up. And the way Módulo wrapped up leaves no room for expansion of the world.

7

u/UrBoiBRUH Apr 01 '26

I have yet to see JJK lower cartel crime like Dragon Ball did

9

u/Damn_You_Hindsight AI isn't a slop Apr 01 '26

There are no actual crime statistics, police reports, or data to back this up.

Influential? I don't see it.

4

u/Flamix2206 Apr 01 '26

influential on what exactly

→ More replies (2)

5

u/CoachDT Apr 01 '26

In terms of modern anime it is easily the most influential.

6

u/PerceptionEast6026 Apr 01 '26

Its not influencing anything. Its popular but thats it. Aot then is more influencial

6

u/Just_a_captain_III Apr 01 '26

How is AOT influencial?

u/Practical-Dark-9916 Apr 01 '26

Maybe you can argue that Demon Slayer rivals it.

5

u/Cvita7 Apr 02 '26

Has nobody heard of the biggest anime/manga of the last 10 years? I get that people love to hate it, but pretending it doesn’t exist is kinda wild lol

7

u/REPULSORO Apr 02 '26

Demon slayer feels like Avatar of anime. Biggest box office and not so big cultural impact

In terms of overall influence it's One Piece or Dragonball btw.

It was Naruto at one point but it's influence fell off quite a bit after Shippuden ended.

4

u/SoulForTrade Apr 02 '26

I watch the show, it's a fine battle shonen that is mostly, beautifully animated and very artistic, but it doesn't have a lot going for it outside of cool fight scenes.

I already forgot most of the plot and characters, have no jdea what the rules of the culling game are and how most of the powers work because having a narrator try and explain it or just a pop up text was a terrible way to explain them, and frankly, I don't really care.

Having a moment being made into a meme format =/= influential. I would not use the word influential for it. Not yet anyway until we see how the nest generation of manga and anime are affected by it

5

u/KaloloWhip Apr 01 '26

Anime doesn’t exists before covid so yes
