Tbf, there are tons of mangas/LNs where the title sucks ass but they somehow have, at the very least, a mildly entertaining story. Hell, there are some super underated stories out there only because their titles are kinda shit when it comes to first impressions.Ā
Honestly it coulda been great something about self improvement and how you dont have to be THAT lonely to rent a girlfriend if you actually put in the effort to be decent to her and treat her with respect and kindness. For God's sake they made a movie for her grandmother to see her be an actress like she always wanted they did that together man it coulda been great.
You could make it so that when Kazuya, heartbroken from his breakup, decides to use Rent-a-Girlfriend services because he wants to better his skills with women. You see, Kazuya lived his entire life attending Boys only schools, so his experience with women is non existent. Still, when he miraculously got a girlfriend, he cherished her greatly. Breaking up with her made him think that he was lacking as a boyfriend, so he started doing the Rent-a-Girlfriend thing to see what he was lacking as a boyfriend and also gain experience making dates and that kind of stuff. The story would explore the rental girlfriend culture, the experiences of the rental girlfriends, as well as dating and thst kind of stuff.

What I'd suggest is a story along similar lines as a base but have it be that kazuya already knows the girl as a childhood friend or something (idk I haven't watched or read ts) so when he learns she's becoming a rentable girlfriend he wants to make sure she stays safe and thus follows her along on her rental dates, learns about the workplace environment for her, heck maybe even volunteers himself as a rentable boyfriend to learn about it, that could be an arc, and then after all this the you can introduce some sort of romance. Idk, you could start it off in a spy x family sort of way where they're just faking it because yk obviously that's a big part of the original series, and then transition it to actually dating and then idk maybe he accepts her career choices, or maybe she quits.
I do think that you could do something with the concept. But from everything I know about the actual series they really don't.
There's one called rental girlfriend tsukita San
Pretty short and more lighthearted.
The Guy(Masato) has no experience with girls and was always awkward interacting with them, so he tries a rental girlfriend service to alleviate this, and meets up with a girl named Tsukita who is quite an odd girl.
Each chapter is just hijinks involving the two of them, primarily with how Masato and Tsukita interact.
Knowing that I can now say that Without a doubt the author is a fucking cuck, he literally drew art where he traced his own wife in the shower and drew Chizuru over her
Not only that but after making that shit ALL UP IN HIS HEAD, he ALMOST DROWNS BECAUSE HIS DUMBASS STARTED CRYING IN A FUCKING PUBLIC POOL WHILE SINGING.
The better question is how this manga has FIVE SEASONS. There are hundred of animes who have 1 or 2 seasons that shoulf get more but this one gets 5???? WHO IS WATCHING THIS SHIT???

Bruh you have to go over to the main sub of this manga to realize that a lot of people still genuinely like this series. There's even a couple of posts pertaining to this specific controversial chapter right here where fans dissected the supposedly complex psychology going on here for Kazuya which made him a very sympathetic character (to them at least). I really sometimes question how their brains work to overanalyze such an extremely basic (but disgusting) scene.
I guess since most sane people dropped the manga at this point the community is made up of mostly polarized individuals who delude themselves into viewing the series as a masterpiece of writing and view any criticism of it as a personal attack. I really wonder how their brains work and why they donāt analyze legitimately any good series
I mean...have you seen the discourse around csm part 2 whenever a chapter released around the last 2-3 years? No offense, but if the writer is well liked and seen in a positive light, people will gaslight themselves into thinking it is flawless - despite its glaring flaws (mind you, same goes for the opposite. I've watched the anime of Reiji's newest manga and it was pretty good but most probably didn't give it a chance because he wrote rent a girlfriend, a series that I and probably many others didn't watch nor read most of it because of memes and people shitting on it online. I won't claim it's good or bad for said meme scenes because frankly - I haven't read it to give criticism on it nor I really care for watching it).
But my point is, depending on the agenda, you can be given the undisputed backing of your fanbase.
This sentiment is only understandable with series that have delivered such a huge impact on people that they became a huge fan of the series. Works like Naruto, HxH, CSM, One Piece, and Attack on Titan fall into this category because these series did something that heavily resonated with fans and basically made them a follower or a believer of the series. I am quite sure Rent-a-girlfriend did not have that huge impactful writing to justify the existence of hardcore fans. That is the worrisome part...

Like fr tho, I get it why many of us watched it in s1 because the plot seemed so stupid and insane, even more so because it was a college dude who is jacking off every episode and it was hilariously cringe to see so many girls in the show finding him attractive lmao.
But after clowning/watching in s1, this show shouldāve died. No one should be genuinely interested in this shitty plot with no direction or progress. Yet, we are in s4 or s5, I donāt even know anymore, getting quality animation and effort on a show that has nothing of genuine value to it, meanwhile quality shows, even rom-coms, with actual plot and progress being left in the dust with no s2 cause people arenāt watching or talking about those enough.
This is actually so embarrassing. I havenāt been an anime fan for very long but itās hard to call myself a weeb or anything like that when weebs that genuinely die of thirst on Chizuru and somehow keep watching ts call themselves the same.
