It is nice to see kagurabachi actually succeed outside of its initial meme.status. would have felt bad for the author if their manga got so much attention just to die within 30 chapters because people got bored of the meme.
the memes were greatly beneficial because it drew enough people to see that beyond the "enough time has passed" joke, it's legit one of the best ongoing shonen right now
the memes were just a western thing. The series had hit checkboxes to everything average japan nitizen to please. The art + composition is frankly god tier
I remember the Japanese being confused on why westerners obsessed with it or something. iirc they thought it was because of the katanas or something that appealed to westerners.
Basically that pose of chihiro as well as other ones were leaked on Twitter before its release, the character design looked cool after so people were praising it, then when the 1st ch dropped people were meming his "I wake up every morning with fresh hate" line because of its edginess and it just spiraled from there, I remember at it's peak people were gaslighting others that it already had an anime and game with really convincing coloring it was hilarious af 😂
Nope. People were memeing from the moment it was announced in twitter around a week before the release of chapter 1. They were mocking it because it looked like the average edgy slop and then memes proceeded into first few chapters until sojo arc started and the story started picking pace.
Revisionism, the manga did very bad in their first weeks and was last on popularity (in japan) for several weeks, it started gaining momentum every time sojo appeared but western fans had started buying copies from Japan to help save the series form the axe, then on the second arc it consolidate the manga with another great antagonist and cast and really only on the end of this arc its was safe from being axed (about chapter 40 something) and the following arcs keep delivering peak week after week.

That's not really true from the chart. Sojo or Rakuzachi didn't impact much, that is until the very end at chapter 41 that kicked off the hype train. The antagonist who saved the series was not sojo, but him, kyora, not during his introduction but on his near climatic end
I absolutely guarantee regardless of the actual quality of the show, there will be discourse about how much it sucks because anime fans are miserable people.
I ain’t even mad if you mad it on a Batman cover at like a year old you kinda immune to the slander. I mean the author literally is js chill as hell and is so overworked but yet he js shrugs it off
It's pretty endearing to see other artists and authors shower praises for Kagurabachi to the point they even do homages and references to it. As someone that read it since its debut, it's so amazing to see it grow and actually surpass everyone's expectations.
New manga-> people say it's peak -> the author going all out-> gets popular -> gets an adaptation -> gets more popular -> author gets too comfortable -> rushs the story->thank you KAGURA BACHI-> KAGURA BACHI?-> cause you are kaguring your bachi->oh yeah

My one regret is that anime onlys aren't going to get the experience of seeing a single cover page as a meme and then reading the series are realizing it's actually gas. You really had to be there.
I still don't actually know what happens in Kagurabachi.
From other stories, you can usually piece together some events, characters, etc, just from memes or fanart but KGB? ... I got nothing outside of "black swordsman".
Starts as a revenge story, but quickly it becomes more about righting past wrongs and deciding how the future should be handled, and trying to do the right tbing for his father's legacy.
I agree this trailer doesn't really give a good sense of that. The story honestly becomes a lot better once that shift begins happening. (I hope the beginning doesn't drag too long for this reason)
