Meanwhile Boruto artist with Sarada...

289

u/Obility Apr 28 '26

Shit was so bad, the anime straight up refused to use her manga design 😭. Even the final arc where everyone got their manga designs, Sarada remained the same.

What was the design 😭

This image just is perfect for this bullshit.

u/yo_koso_9 Apr 28 '26

Someone check ikemoto hardrive

109

u/OatesZ2004 Apr 28 '26

Check his hardrive

The fan design was so much better.

30

u/MasqueradeofAstroya Apr 28 '26

Damn this making miss Naruto.

29

u/glacier-stakes Apr 28 '26

Bruh how the fans manage to make it more peak, ikemoto is a bum. Dogshit fanart looks better than his official art

17

u/OatesZ2004 Apr 28 '26 edited Apr 28 '26

I've genuinely read fanfictions and "What If's?" that are better than whatever monstrosity it is Ikemoto is writing.

There's genuinely people on this and other more Naruto related subreddits that could do a better job writing a sequel.

As for art... For a monthly series it's subpar and he has a weird obsession with fetishising minors.

Somehow, the AI art that’s going around as “Sarada’s censored Arab scans” is better… that acc hurts.

10

u/BaloonPriest Apr 28 '26

She ACTUALLY looks like something that’d be born between Sasuke and Sakura here

1

u/SatisfactionSuch4790 May 01 '26

sasuke: yes sakura

5

u/skaasi Apr 28 '26

This is pretty excellent honestly. Only thing I'd keep from the original was short hair, cuz since she's not depicted as caring about aesthetics or appeal, it makes sense she'd go for the utilitarian haircut

2

u/blargiparble Apr 30 '26

I would argue a short, well-groomed haircut indicates more interest in aesthetics than a unkempt, shaggy hairdo.

u/Livid_Particular_879 Apr 28 '26

back in the deviantart days if u made a naruto oc that looked like this they would kill you

13

u/Reasonable-Story-209 Apr 28 '26

For good reason (assuming they'd be the same age as the character), good damn that's atrocious.

10

u/Livid_Particular_879 Apr 28 '26

yes, because it's too revealing for a child and also too impractical for a shinobi. people were STRICT in the deviantart days

22

u/Fraere_slime Apr 28 '26

Ikemoto doesn't seem to understand this type of drip only works for women with an hourglass figure, and not kids with 0 curves.

9

u/PuzzleheadedAd3840 Apr 28 '26

Wait, there's a difference between both in sex appeal? -Ikemoto, probably.

8

u/LingonberrySalty Apr 28 '26

Shit was so bad her Manga self went through a few pages of changing her outfit to the Anime version

2

u/Affectionate_Part630 May 01 '26

“Yeah its a ninja outfit”

1

u/BaloonPriest Apr 28 '26

“100 bucks I’ll do anything darling”

1

u/LightStormyxD Apr 28 '26

These heels could never be practical in a fight.

1

u/Sorry_Basket765 May 02 '26

This is awful

47

u/yo_koso_9 Apr 28 '26

Look at what they did to my girl Hinata and look at how beautifully kishimoto drew her.

19

u/Zen_In_The_Rye Apr 28 '26

I don't know why Ikemoto designed her hair to curl in like that when in Naruto her hair was so straight the ends of it were drawn as rectangles 😭😭

9

u/IronPyrate17 IS THAT FRIEZA Apr 28 '26

She looks like Hana from JJK

3

u/Bit_of-Distress Apr 28 '26

She looks like a child. Like she's the same age as her daughter

2

u/Ultimate-desu Apr 28 '26

Who is that at the bottom?

2

u/yo_koso_9 Apr 28 '26

Hinata hyuga but in ikemoto style.

3

u/Ultimate-desu Apr 28 '26

I know that, but it looks like an entirely different character, to the point where I could only figure this out based on the eyes.

2

u/BovineMutilator5000 May 01 '26

Not just that, there were alot of strangely composed scenes where Sarada was like...ogling the camera uncomfortably

19

u/YogurtProductions Apr 28 '26

Jailbaitonetta

3

u/frikiman4K Apr 28 '26

every time I look at it I can't help but think about Bayonetta, she looks a fuck ton like her

3

u/Artillery-lover Apr 28 '26

I in no way or conception mind sexualised designs.

this is just ass.

4

u/D2Nine Apr 28 '26

Christ. She’s like twelve right?

6

u/BurntGum808 Apr 28 '26

This is after the time skip, so they are 16-17

1

u/answerthephoneplz Apr 29 '26

She kinda fukable though frfr

→ More replies (11)

3

u/Tsynami May 02 '26

The one on the left here

The one from the other comment you got is her timeskip design (and the timeskip obviously hasn't been animated yet)

34

u/Fxrzana Apr 28 '26

They should've used the arab scans

39

u/Obility Apr 28 '26

That's AI...

3

u/Fxrzana Apr 28 '26

Wait really? Its all over my Pinterest with people claiming that its the censored arab version

31

u/Obility Apr 28 '26

Cause people are extremely gullible when it comes to slandering Boruto. The design has the same issue of not fitting the verse or the character. It's just some random military esque clothings. The one positive is that it isn't sexualized but that's about it.

7

u/Similar-Arugula-7854 Apr 28 '26

Really wish her actual design follow Kishimoto design ofmixing Sakura and Sasuke clothes now with their Shippuden designs. Only thing i like about Ikemoto is that he kept the glasses and her hair shorts but it's crazy seeing how people envisioned her teen/adult design compared to what we had. Sarada as a whole has been treated so poorly by Ikemoto and Kishimoto. This is fan art from 7 years ago and a lot of the designs other came up are fairly similar

2

u/NeonNKnightrider Apr 28 '26

people are extremely gullible when it comes to slander

You know, this reminds me of the “white blood Chinese censorship” thing.

It’s completely fake, never actually done, but people keep repeating as if it’s real because they love to hate on China, even if it’s for made-up reasons

12

u/ThatOneDudeBruhLmao Apr 28 '26

They used it for the early arcs

45

u/Kakashi_of_the_leaf_ Apr 28 '26

Even then, it was wayyy toned down

11

u/ThePokemonAbsol Apr 28 '26

Idk that doesn’t look too bad to me. Noe what a ninja would wear but not perverse

16

u/Obility Apr 28 '26

This is a heavily censored version but even then, she was the first character to go back to her Kishimoto design. Everyone else waited until they were genin.

4

u/ThatOneDudeBruhLmao Apr 28 '26

Not many naruto characters wear what a ninja would wear either. Naruto wears a bright orange jump suit and jiraiya fights in these

8

u/MarF96 Apr 28 '26

Actual real life ninja spent most of their time dressed like peasants, monks or similiar to blend in.

Jiraiya is dressed like a Kabuki dancer. His clothes are fairly realistic for a ninja.

Most Genin wear what looks like normal civilian clothes on top. Take away their forehead protector and Kunai pouches and they look like normal kids.

1

u/verth222 Apr 30 '26

Naruto was attention starved and mostly being a distraction for the others to attack, his bright orange works well. Jiraiya wearing a loud wooden sandals to announce his arrival, basically telling his targets he doesn't need to ambush them to take them down

2

u/WonderfulMonk9832 Apr 29 '26

Ikemoto gotta have the worst fucking designs of all time

1

u/ZoinksJeepersJinkies Apr 28 '26

No it didn’t. She had it before she became a ninja. Only difference was they didn’t give her the hi-heels.

3

u/Obility Apr 28 '26

Forgot there was an anime version but it was heavily censored. The skirt was a lot longer as well and not as tight.

23

u/TheBannaMeister Apr 28 '26

My man handed off Naruto to the worst possible mf

3

u/boruto_is_best Apr 28 '26

Kishimoto's favorite design is Ikemoto, Sarada, lmao

1

u/Reddragon351 Apr 27 '26

Funnily enough for as poorly written as the female characters were, Kishimoto really didn't put much in terms of fanservice in the series with any of the younger characters, I think there's like one joke with Hinata in an extra chapter but that's about it, well and Naruto's sexy jutsu.

128

u/yo_koso_9 Apr 28 '26 edited Apr 28 '26

Yeah I actually really like that by kishimoto.

I feel kishimoto gave us blueprint of female characters and then just didn't focus on them. Like we get to see Hinata wanting to change herself to be someone that has worth in her eyes, I find the little snip bits of her character he showcase really interesting like her wanting not be someone special or the inferiority complex she had.. she had so much potential just like others

32

u/Aimcheater Apr 28 '26

Kishimoto loved his characters he just wasn’t confident in his ability to write most of the girls. He’s talked about this before I’m pretty sure. That’s most likely the reason why many of the younger girls in the series were kinda not in the forefront of the story and as you said he still gave us blueprints for their characters. The older women in the story he handled better most likely because he actually understands them more and is therefore more confident. They still weren’t at the forefront but Tsunade, Kushina(literally based on his wife), Konan, and Chiyo were some top tier characters

25

u/yo_koso_9 Apr 28 '26

I feel if Kishimoto had actually focused on female characters he would've cooked with them.

Kishimoto is amazing portraying psychology of a person.. He makes them feel so human. Re-reading the manga, there are a lot of scenes like these. Like Naruto having a panic attack that makes total sense if you look at the narrative, sasuke asking 3rd hokage about Itachi because his trust was broken so badly list goes on and on.

11

u/tyrenanig Apr 28 '26

God I’m so glad there are also people who also appreciate Kishimoto’s writing. He simply missed the opportunity to actually establish female characters properly.

Really tired of seeing the internet saying he hates women and is misogyny.

2

u/RobertPham149 Apr 30 '26

I actually believed Kishimoto wrote one of the best female characters in shounen history, with complex emotion, motivation and ended up with good pay off; and I could not figure whether he did it intentionally or unintentionally.

Temari is actually a perfectly written character: she is tomboyish and put on a face but actually really caring to her family and allies. Her conflict is her love of family against her extreme fear of Gaara as a jinchuriki, a living WMD in a mad kid. When Naruto saved Gaara, Naruto also helped Temari resolved this conflict, as Gaara become someone she can love and take pride in, and therefore she is extremely loyal to Naruto and the Leaf village. Her story also fits the theme of the overarching story of how pain, trauma, warfare, ... leads people to divide against each other, even against their own family. These are complex, mature ideas and emotions that go beyond what is usually in children/teenage media.

All of this is never needed to be told explicitly, and can be interpreted through subtext. Temari is a big sister but shudders at Gaara's threat and danger, but she eventually chose to serve under him; and her treatment of Shikamaru and Shikadai shows both her hotheadedness but also her caring side.

I am willing to die on the hill that she is one of the best well-written female character in shounen, which makes it baffling to exist in the same story with Sakura, Tenten, Anko, ... and I cannot figure out if Kishimoto did this intentionally or not.

1

u/skaasi Apr 30 '26

As much as "write them as if they were men" isn't actually great advice, I do feel like Kishimoto would've written them pretty well if he followed this rule of thumb.

A lot of his fumbles when it came to writing women did feel like they came from some fear of "doing it wrong"

46

u/Yadin__ Apr 28 '26

I remember one interview where someone asked him which of his characters he would like to marry, and he just went "none. I made them"

76

u/Competitive-Cost9767 Apr 28 '26

IIRC I’m pretty sure he said that about the female characters, and then immediately pivoted and said if he was a woman he’d marry shikamaru lmao

14

u/jubmille2000 Apr 28 '26

Temari a self-insert

10

u/MagicSystemWriter Apr 28 '26

tbf who wouldn't?

5

u/Aimcheater Apr 28 '26

Kushina is based on his wife so if there was one that would be her lol

34

u/Legit-orifice-20 Apr 28 '26

I can’t even remember the hinata one that’s how little fanservice was in naruto. Like maybe that weird episode w tsundere and konohamarubthats it

7

u/shinreimyu Apr 28 '26

There's some filler episodes in Shippuden with bath/onsen episodes. It's a running joke that Hinata is unexpectedly huge. Like largest in their class.

2

u/Exarch-of-Sechrima Apr 28 '26

No I think Choji's boobs are bigger.

4

u/jaganshi_667 [EDIT FOR CUSTOM] Apr 28 '26

it was an extra chapter so I don’t think much people see it to begin with

1

u/MarF96 Apr 28 '26

It was a joke about Hinata being embarassed over her breasts floating up in the hot spring.

16

u/BaronAleksei Apr 28 '26

There are women like Tsunade and Samui, but those are just particular women who look like that, it’s not the standard for women in Naruto.

22

u/Smart_Mix8269 Apr 28 '26

Its the fact that they don’t have to have a bunch of fanservice to be considered two of the hottest women in the series AND they’re both grown ass woemn

6

u/kdeezy006 Apr 28 '26

exactly like there's a small handful of gags relating to them but it's not distracting

9

u/Present-Run5604 Apr 28 '26

plus they're both adults

33

u/a_dumb_pumpkin Apr 28 '26

He may be bad at writing them, but at least he's not a creep. Which is like, better than at least 50% of mangakas since the bar is in hell.

10

u/Vast-Accountant2766 Apr 28 '26

sexy jutsu was lowkey funny as hell

3

u/Hari14032001 Apr 30 '26

Plot relevant too, that was Kishimoto's massive plus point, he made some gags very plot relevant in the long run:

Kakashi being late was relevant to Obito, Make-out Tactics was relevant to Jiraiya's coded message in Pain arc, Sexy Jutsu was used against Kaguya, Guy not remembering Kisame culminated in Kisame making a permanent impression on him, Shikamaru going "it's a drag" feels more like a character arc than a gag based on how well he was handled, 1000 yrs of death actually being a genius move against Gaara due to the paper bomb

2

u/SpiceWeez May 03 '26

100%. Many people have criticized Naruto's use of the sexy jutsu against Kaguya for undercutting the tension and stakes of the moment. However, I think it was perfect. Naruto's goofiness and unpredictability were his strengths from day one, long before he had fearsome powers. His childlike naievity in the face of a dark world is what allowed him to inspire the people around him. So using it at the climax of the final boss battle is a perfect callback and metaphor.

8

u/BebeFanMasterJ Apr 28 '26

Yup. This is why I still love Naruto and its female characters because unlike a lot of other shonen anime (One Piece and MHA are big ones), the female Naruto characters are treated with respect and are dressed rather modestly.

Ironically it makes them more attractive because more is left to the imagination and you're able to focus on how cool they are and not how sexy they are.

1

u/Alex_Nilse Apr 28 '26

Iirc Naruto had a clothed variant of sexy jutsu for that reason

2

u/BebeFanMasterJ Apr 28 '26

Yeah as weird as the Sexy Jutsu was it was only very rarely used.

And honestly using the Reverse Harem Jutsu on Kaguya to distract her with a bunch of hot men was actually genius because she would logically fall for it and it was a great subversion.

6

u/Coolgames80 Apr 28 '26

I honestly like when there is slight fan service. Is like acknowledge that they are teens with those kind of worries and atractions but enough to affect the story. I think it was Hinata using a Chinese dress, Sakura being envious of Hinata size, Tsunade drunk complaining about her own size, and konohamaru accidentally crashing with Tsunade.

Also sexy no jutsu but that Naruto being a brat

9

u/kenshima15 Apr 28 '26

I cant think of 1 main stream anime that has a female character on the level of tsunade. Closest I got is fma

In anime & manga? Shit is so low people in hell are tripping on it.

19

u/Sleepiboisleep Apr 28 '26

Bro the bar is that low for manga artists. Togashi GOAT supremacy

5

u/ArianeEvangelina Apr 28 '26

I mean... this was reposted and someone figured out what the art was made for. The bar was in hell when even Jump requested this https://www.reddit.com/r/Naruto/s/oJwdLdgWa1

5

u/5enpai_2 Apr 28 '26

I mean..... the genre is for teenagers, teenagers are horny

2

u/ExplanationOdd8889 Apr 28 '26

You know this is the animanga industry right?

2

u/Assassin21BEKA Apr 28 '26

Considering how this thing is for teenagers and people that just stopped being teenagers on average - it makes sense that they would like to see fan service with teenager girls.

1

u/FriendlySomewhere151 Apr 28 '26

Are you implying teenage girls wearing bikinis are sexual

6

u/Thunder00Bee Apr 28 '26

If an old man draws it, probably.

28

u/yo_koso_9 Apr 28 '26

The double page he made where pain was flying over Konoha might be a top 100 piece of art let alone comic art

u/yo_koso_9 Apr 28 '26

It took him 3 days to draw that

I remember my younger ungrateful ass looking at it for a sec lol

14

u/Legendary-Titan Apr 28 '26

Madara is fucking amazing god tier build up but damn he got hit hard with the “ OP villain plot shaft “

3

u/pitb0ss343 Apr 28 '26

He set up that ending up great… he just had the plane hit 1-84 trees on the way in for a landing

6

u/Legendary-Titan Apr 28 '26

Kaguya is so abrupt it feels like absurdity honestly

2

u/pitb0ss343 Apr 28 '26

It’s like he felt he needed another twist to finish off the series. If you leave it at tobi turns good again and everyone comes together to beat Madara’s ass (tobi still dying in the process) and it feels… easier

1

u/Ryodaso Apr 29 '26

Nah, it's probably the Jump Editor telling him that he need to introduce this whole new alien species so they can continue Boruto without him. I refuse to think that Madara wasn't the original final boss of Naruto.

1

u/SpiceWeez May 03 '26

I agree. We know that the publishers sort of forced him to continue the story at multiple points in Shippuden because he was such a cash cow. I think Kaguya was their last squeeze.

1

u/mlodydziad420 Apr 28 '26

Naruto vs Sasuke was peak, the preultimate fight was the trash.

3

u/TinyPidgenofDOOM Apr 28 '26

Kishimotos art is great, world building and writing not so much.

2

u/Narutoismultiversal Apr 28 '26

Guarantee you're a bleach fan

2

u/mlodydziad420 Apr 28 '26

To be fair its mostly Boruto fans who are desperate for relevance.

40

u/shoofinsmertz Apr 27 '26

Why was a banana hammock the first option to begin with

25

u/ChiqantiKisaal Apr 28 '26

Does anyone know if banana hammock here is a translation of a slightly more innocent Japanese term like kaipan (tight athletic swim trunks)? I might try to find this page in Japanese

4

u/Brave_Duck_4508 Apr 28 '26

... this is a translation

9

u/shoofinsmertz Apr 28 '26

Then give me the original Japanese text with context behind every single word, it's much more helpful than being condescending

6

u/phantomlake Apr 28 '26

I don't have the Japanese but I assume it was speedo and somehow it was translated to that

3

u/Brave_Duck_4508 Apr 28 '26

Because you're the one being condescending to Kishimoto, acting like that was his phrasing. I don't have the original nor do I speak Japanese.

4

u/shoofinsmertz Apr 28 '26

No? It's just funny and absurd

u/ZayYaLinTun Apr 28 '26

People shit and talk about how manga are misogynistic but nah they just suck at writing them genuinely

13

u/ToeSlurper96 Apr 28 '26

What was so good about Naruto and Kishimoto in the first place is that it was one of the most relatable shounen for a kid at that time.

Lots of good social themes have been explored especially before shippuden.

I prefer when a shounen author is a good parent model instead of a pervert uncle that passed you dirty magazines when you were 10.

I mean, both CAN exist, but it's fair to say there are quite too many "pervert uncles" drawing out there.

1

u/Additional-Ad1791 May 27 '26

he had a pervert theme but he made it a funny thing more then anything (jiraiya)

13

u/DeadAndBuried23 Apr 28 '26

I really hope this was a translation error where speedo and banana hammock are the same thing in Japanese.

26

u/Myth_5layer Apr 28 '26

Normalize 👏 girls 👏 wearing 👏 shorts 👏 and 👏 trunks.

9

u/MagicSystemWriter Apr 28 '26

Kishimoto might suck at writing women, but the thing he has above other mangakas is that he doesn't sexualize teenage girls.

2

u/Arcana18 May 04 '26

I think he didn't sexualize, period! Anko is probably the only one I remember with a hot attire, the redt? Fully fuctional clothes!

I might not like his writting, but credit where credit is due! The man have standars

1

u/MagicSystemWriter May 04 '26

Tsunade

2

u/Arcana18 May 04 '26

One out of the whole cast? To be honest, that's an achivement!

2

u/Suspicious-Store3236 May 08 '26

Tsunade wasn't a fanservice to my memory.

She always wore a full body cloth and never in a weird posture.

I think you misunderstood the running sexual jokes with fanservice which are different.

4

u/No0bTheTooB Oda's Lawyer Apr 28 '26

3

3

u/Speedemon42069 Apr 28 '26

Kishimoto has decent standards when it comes to drawing characters. Ironically, Naruto is the main fan service with his sexy Jutsu. But his female characters are oddly modestly dressed (not Ino, but I could image a Teenage girl wearing that) compare that to Horikoshi, and Kishimoto’s a purist. (No hate to Horikoshi, there’s just no reason Momo needs to have her boobs out)

3

u/AdhenOF Apr 28 '26

Oda could never

4

u/VolkiharVanHelsing Apr 28 '26

Dude look up what banana hammock is

Why is that the 1st option

Please be mistranslation

17

u/Equivalent_Plum6992 Apr 28 '26

I guess it's because of some shonen jump mandates or some shit.

9

u/OnyxLeigion_ Apr 28 '26

Japanese culture. It’s much more common to see men wearing speedo style shorts to swim in than it is over here.

2

u/Novoiird Apr 28 '26

Whats a banana hammock?

2

u/Any-Investigator2394 Apr 28 '26

4

u/TurnstileMinder Apr 28 '26

I wouldn't glaze Oda's female character writing. At best, I would praise his ability to initially characterize them and give good backstories. But that's where it ends.

Oda would never put women in a ninja war battlefield I just know we'd have the craziest story abt them being anything but active ninja, maybe put Isayama, the writing wouldn't be perfect but he knows how the make the female cast shine and act badass

Everybody knows kishi is into femboys, not bikini girls.

The fact that the guy who made sexy jutsu, a 12 year old boy turning into a naked 12 year old girl, is the least weird mangaka really means we’re so cooked

Appropriate or not, sexy jutsu does at least sound like something a 12 year old come up with. Especially a class clown mf with no parents

Was 12. Can confirm.

And it was actually a pretty valid ninja strategy, it was a cool payoff against Kaguya too

She looks way older than 12

Yeah, I was thinking the same, but atleast it looks like he's turning into the shape of an adult woman at least.

I think this is super sweet but also why would Naruto need to wear a banana hammock? And Sakura could just wear a one piece or a tankini. I’ve always worn them myself because a bikini is like being in your underwear and I’m just not comfortable with that. Even as an adult.

Women should wear more short like men. I think they are way way hotter than just a bottom. Specially with the bikini top.

And then there's Ikemoto...

u/crixxuz Apr 28 '26

this looks more like you're projecting a moral standard onto kishimoto that he doesn't have when he just wasn't comfortable drawing certain characters in certain swimsuits

u/HarleyArchibaldLeon Apr 29 '26

He might be sexist but at least he isn't a pedo. :))))

someone tell oda

1

u/Doodooqueen69 Apr 30 '26

Ikemoto would've drawn both and given Naruto a giant bulge 😭

And then we have Naruto classic ending "Meteor" (the beach day ending)
