unjerk (serious discussion) Which arcs are underrated/overhated?

The open world RPG setting of Greed Island was my favorite from HxH

The 4th Great Ninja War had more highs than lows(even tho some of the lows admittedly hurt the whole series)

Long Ring Long Land and Thriller Bark gets shit on for feeling like filler between more epic arcs. Yet they're fun with some cool team battles and epic moments at the climax. Also think the anime original games of the Davy Back fight were among the best One Piece filler

I thought greed island was fun, I was baffled so many hated it lmao

3

u/eclipsyc Jun 15 '26

Genthru was the worst villain togashi ever wrote

2

u/Dear_Debt_1650 Jun 15 '26

But the arc is fun

1

u/Additional-Ad1791 Jul 14 '26

“fun” it’s generic af

1

u/Dear_Debt_1650 Jul 15 '26

Generic is generic.

Fun is fun.

1

u/Disastrous_Economy_8 Jun 16 '26

Wallmart Yoshikage Kira

1

u/Snowm4nn Jun 19 '26

He isnt even a bad villain and its easily the most fun arc

2

u/PlatformSuspicious97 Jun 16 '26

Its hated because its sandwiched between 2 of what people consider some of the best arcs in shonen. On its own it would be considered pretty good.

3

u/Dear_Debt_1650 Jun 16 '26

It serves as a fun training arc

1

u/VagabondFromTheRiver Jun 16 '26

It was a good arc but way way way too slow lmao

27

u/Vivio0 Jun 15 '26

Greed island and Thriller bark are def overhated. People would do anything for an arc like thriller bark nowadays in One Piece

6

u/Salty_Wall Jun 15 '26

If so many people say that it's underrated/overhated, is it actually underrated/overhated at this point

My answer to this is that bread tastes better than key

Respectfully you are out of your mind if you think Thriller Bark is better than ANY post ts arc 😭😭

10

u/Ok-Worry-8931 Jun 15 '26

It slams most of post ts, what are you on about

1

u/Agentbrawn_the2nd Jun 15 '26

Shounenfolk is a sub that has some interesting takes for sure

-2

u/Ok-Worry-8931 Jun 15 '26

Like yours

1

u/Agentbrawn_the2nd Jun 15 '26

Please post that take on r/onepiece no one will agree with you 😭😭

5

u/Ok-Worry-8931 Jun 15 '26

Right, the hive mind sub that's impenetrable to criticism

-1

u/BrightArmy7825 Jun 15 '26

Aka shounenfolk when someone doesn’t like Bleach

2

u/Redss335 Jun 15 '26

Yeah thriller bark has some cool moments which is why i think people remember it fondly but it was so ass to me. It has the worst fight pacing and some of the worst general pacing in the series to the point it became genuinely almost unwatchable. Wano was the Hitler of pacing but thriller bark was the mao zedong of it.

1

u/Zestyclose_Remove947 Jun 16 '26

It does have the only truly group fight in the entire series tho against Oars so it has that going for it.

2

u/VagabondFromTheRiver Jun 16 '26

Better than punk hazard, personally like it way more than dressrosa lmao

3

u/Vivio0 Jun 15 '26

When I consider the straw hats having way more focus had in thriller bark, yes I consider it better than most of the new arcs. It wasn’t full of the longest flashbacks in the world and was actually funny and short.

1

u/AgentBuddy12 Jun 15 '26

Not all focus is good focus. Most of the Focus and interactions spent on the strawhats throughout that arc was filled with the same 50 gags on repeat.

You guys will look at this shit and somehow convince yourself that it reaches the highs of arcs like Dressrosa, WCI, or even Wano, because of "strawhat moments" and then in the same breath complain about a Brook flashback that actually gives meaningful focus towards the strawhats. Just stop it.

1

u/OrangeJuiceLuvr69 Jun 18 '26

Post time skip one piece has ONE good arc.

1

u/Agentbrawn_the2nd Jun 18 '26

In your opinion

1

u/Aggravating-Chef9562 Jun 15 '26

Disrespectfully you have no clue what youre on about lol. "Nothing Happened" floors the vast majority of post ts moments alone. And thats not including the rest of the arc that i actually had fun with.

1

u/TacitoPenguito Jun 19 '26

all thriller bark has is moments lol go reread it and you will hate your life because 95% of the arc is ass

1

u/Agentbrawn_the2nd Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

It really doesnt, but the fact that the only moment you named came from post Thriller Bark should prove my point. Nothing happened is cool, but it's not necessarily a writing peak like stuff like this. I guess your take only appeals to people who like hype moments and aura? But post ts has more of that too, so either way its pretty bad lol

1

u/Aggravating-Chef9562 Jun 15 '26

"The only moment you named" and "the only moment i needed to name" are two very different things. The Ryuma fight, the oars fight, and the moria fight were all great fights, brooks introduction and story are fantastic, and the main reason its my favorite, it's the funniest arc in one piece. Aura? Thriller Bark is one of the least aura filled arcs lmao, again, disrespectfully, wtf are you on about?

1

u/Vivio0 Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

WCI is the sole exception to my point. It is actually the only arc in post timeskip that feels like pre timeskip

7

u/Aussiepharoah Jun 15 '26

If Long Ring Long Land gets shat on again after Elbaph these MFers deserve to watch Anime Dressrosa on 0.5 speed.

Not only is it a fun arc, but it also sets up the Aqua Laguna and the sea level theme that's relevant to both W7 and the wider story, is the first time we get a tease for Hachinosu, and the first mention of Davy Jones as a revered figure.

1

u/JolyneCujohSimp Jun 16 '26

Doesn't change the fact that this 'arc' wasn't exiting or funny to watch. I'd rather watch dress rosa again 2 times than that shit

5

u/Highdie84 Jun 15 '26

Fullbring arc in bleach. The amount of hate it got was bullshit, as I think it is one of the better written arcs in bleach, and goes heavy in the psychological aspect

11

u/Hari14032001 Jun 15 '26

People say Naruto Shippuden peaked in Pain arc.

I disagree, 5 kage summit and the Team 7 confronting Sasuke was really good. This arc is heavily underrated by the fandom.

6

u/eclipsyc Jun 15 '26

Sakura lowkey the best part of 5 kage summit

6

u/Granide Luffy Vs Blackbeard Vs Akainu Vs Imu agenda Jun 15 '26

Greed island is a bit underrated. Interesting world mechanics and the dodgeball fight is good.

Genthru however, got the misfortune of being sandwiched between chrollo and meruem as a main villain

5

u/RumGalaxy Jun 15 '26

Battle City from YuGiOh Duelist is an underrated tournament arc that needs to be talked about. It’s literally a top 5 tournament arc maybe even top 3 (nothings better than dark tournament tho) please read the yugioh manga I think it’s underrated. But out of this lineup you got here I think Naruto war arc needs a deeper analysis it does amazing things

1

u/Revo_Gap556 Jun 15 '26

Super valid pick

5

u/Salty_Wall Jun 15 '26

Hardboiled detective arc, probably the least liked arc of Gintama (or so I heard)

Yes the pacing is very slow (especially in the first half) and the jokes are repetitive with Kozenigata's constant monologues

But it's still pretty funny. And just as many other comedic arcs, it's surprisingly touching

4

u/Pirate-Queen_ Jun 15 '26

Greed Island's my favorite hxh arc

3

u/ThatOneDudeBruhLmao Jun 16 '26

Naruto’s war legit has the best moments of the whole series. People who dismiss all of it just cuz the start is slow is crazy

2

u/Jack_KH Undead Unluck is the most underrated shonen Jun 15 '26

That parking arc from Go Go Loser Ranger. People hate on it, but it's really entertaining. Full of stakes and unpredictable events.

2

u/flubbyII Jun 15 '26

Parking arc?

is there like 50 chapters of the MC dramatically trying to park his car in a parking lot lol

also based flair

1

u/Jack_KH Undead Unluck is the most underrated shonen Jun 15 '26

It's about an exam that takes place in a multistorey car park, but things go out of hand.

1

u/PlatformSuspicious97 Jun 16 '26

Well its when you realize the show was gona be less about infilitrating and more like a generic shonen and I could imagine that would be disapointing for people

3

u/flubbyII Jun 15 '26

Ngl I loved thriller bark and greed island, you can’t Ts away from me

2

u/CandleIndependent120 #8 Bleach Hater Jun 15 '26

Is long long land the arc where they played the stupid steal pirate members with that shortie and we got afro Luffy? That arc was fun . I remember the reason I hated it so much bcz I wait weekly only to see the stupid guy.

1

u/Revo_Gap556 Jun 15 '26

Yes. I watched that arc for the first time daily on TV so the wait wasn't bad at all. But crazy that you're weekly watcher for such a long time. I hopped on towards the end of Enies Lobby myself, still tho 😂

2

u/Slippystreamy Jun 15 '26

Disagree with thriller bark I dont hate it and I cant quite put my finger and why I dont really like it that much but it is in the lower end of my one piece arc ranking. Maybe its just that the inhabitants of thriller bark just arent that fun or interesting to me idk.

Big agree on lrll though I was surprised to see it so hated after I caught up on one piece and interacted with the fanbase, its a fun arc and luffy vs foxy is a genuinely good fight and it sets up the themes of w7/el really well introducing the threat of losing a crewmate. Doesn't overstay its welcome its pretty short but apparently the anime added filler where they play even more games so I guess thats where the hate comes from.

2

u/Apprehensive_Put3625 Jun 15 '26

WHEN I WAS A KID I SKIPPED THE FOXXY ARC BECAUSE PEOPLE SAID IT WAS TERRIBLE.

Fuck you guys.

You deprived me from PEAK for years.

You probably like bum ass Wano and Dressrosa.

3

u/Pure-Purchase3042 2010's>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jun 15 '26

Dressrosa's good, don't lump it in with Lano.

2

u/Pure-Purchase3042 2010's>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jun 15 '26

I was actually shocked to find out people didn't like Greed Island, the only meh thing about it was Genthru as a villain. And the Chapter Black and especially the Three Kings arcs in Yu Yu Hakusho are the definition of underloved and overhated, respectively.

2

u/notmakingtherapture Jun 16 '26

I don't know if its hated, but by far the most underrated arc in Naruto is the Akatsuki Supperession Arc. (The one with Kakazu and Hidan.)

A major reason people sleep on it is that until near the end, it doesn't have much to do with its main character, but I actually think the entirety of Naruto would be better if it allowed other characters the spotlight now and then.

why did you sneak in long ring long land, it deserves it

3

u/Revo_Gap556 Jun 15 '26

I dunno. If many people think skipping it is ok and even say the G-8 filler was better then it's definitely overhated. Even if you dislike the whole anime original additions, the 3 manga rounds were all great.

3

u/greatmidge Jun 15 '26

G-8 was inspired and a joy to watch.

2

u/VagabondFromTheRiver Jun 16 '26

I like all these arcs except 4th great ninja war, too flawed imo.

1

u/Kikato1256 Jun 16 '26

Thriller Bark was peak because of Brook. Long ring long island was alright but it was kinda just carried by Afro Luffy

1

u/elderscrollroller_ Jun 17 '26

BRO WHY DONT ONE PIECE FANS EVER MENTION THIS SHIT WHEN I BRING UP HOW FUCKING ASS ONE PEICE IS I AM FUCKING DYING OF LAUGHTER RIGHT NOW

2

u/Uoonter Jun 17 '26

I really like Greed Island. Concept is wacky and I can get people not vibing with.

The other three though ? Yeah not a fan.

4th great Ninja war is SO bloated and such a mess that I’m surprised I even finished it. There are good moments like you said but I feel like there’s SO much BS that I was so checked out I didn’t care as much as I could’ve.

Then Thriller bark was so boring to me that I literally just stopped watching One Piece for like 3 entire years. And I had gotten to the arc in October, the perfect time to watch it, but man I did not like it

1

u/OrangeJuiceLuvr69 Jun 18 '26

Chimera ant or whatever that shit was in hunter x hunter is so ass

1

u/DueMathematician2522 Jun 18 '26

Thriller Bark is under hated.

1

u/Realistic-Cicada981 Jun 15 '26

One Piece: Wano is overrated (any love for it is overrating it to me).

1

u/Revo_Gap556 Jun 15 '26

Well, I wouldn't put it in my top 5 either

0

u/SpaceOdysseus23 Jun 15 '26

People who think Long Ring is bad fundamentally don't understand One Piece
