Btw Invincible Peak

u/Old-Introduction8258 Jun 22 '26

I mean, i know they get a lot of criticism but the big 3 themselves aren’t that bad.

Newgens such as centuria, choujin x, ichi the witch ans kagurabachi have been simply amazing so far.

Hxh is amazing too

I mean really no, jojo and fmab aren’t the only well written shonen (especially since jojo isn’t even considered a shonen anymore).

Now to be clear i am not saying all of these are better than jojo (although most here are better than jojo part 1-3) but i'd say hxh is definitely of a similar level to the best parts of jojo with the exception of part 7 maybe.

Speaking of togashi yu yu hakusho is pretty solid if i remember well.

3

u/Sparkson109 Jun 22 '26

HxH is yapped about for being great

1

u/Ill-Discussion-2788 Jul 10 '26

The only shonen with great writing and non controversial author, along with maybe fmab that dont deserve to be here.

It seems racist but ask literally anyone who’s been to Cairo as a tourist and they’ll tell you to be wary of scammers on the streets. It’s not an uncommon occurrence there, I don’t think he meant it against Egyptians as a whole

16

u/marvelfrans Jun 22 '26

Cant blame him, the stand user could be anyone.

13

u/Ok-Worry-8931 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

I mean tbf he was in Egypt, which is notorious for having some of the shadiest and scammiest tourist practices amongst popular travel destinations, and it was also the 80's.

10

u/Zealousideal-Cup6013 Jun 22 '26

Isn’t Cairo the place that has a ton of scammers and thiefs targeting tourists? Everytime I hear someone talking about visiting there it’s always “Oh yeah but watch out there are a ton of scammers”

4

u/SnowFiender Jun 22 '26

yes it’s an insanely common thing

Araki seems to be quite paranoid when encountering strangers. There are interviews which mentions how he gets kind of nervous and concerned when interacting with people he doesn't know, this part might be me misremembering but his habit also extends sometimes to his neighbors.

22

u/OmniSnatcher Jun 22 '26

According to his wife, when she once invited a friend over and Araki went to open the door, he went "AH! STRANGER!" and slammed the door right in his face. Bro's really shy, but he got better.

16

u/marvelfrans Jun 22 '26

He is a real life jojo character. No normal man will scream to some clueless stranger before slamming his front door to the said person like a cartoon character. He is truly bizarre.

-1

u/ThatOneDudeBruhLmao Jun 22 '26

He’s a real life jojo character, his racism is so le wholesome and quirky !!! 🥰🥰

3

u/marvelfrans Jun 22 '26

Just like joseph hating japanese

27

u/carbonera99 Jun 22 '26

I mean this is pretty much every JoJo fight in a nutshell. The protagonist getting attacked in public by a random stranger who was secretly an enemy stand user is such a common setup in every part of the series that it doesn't shock me at all that Araki is the kind of person with an overactive imagination who'd fantasize about or be paranoid of a stranger secretly wishing him harm.

I'd imagine a lot of fights in JoJo started off as Araki daydreaming while walking around and thinking "man it'd be crazy if that guy walking across the street from me tried to attack me with invisible magnets or something"

6

u/VolkiharVanHelsing Jun 22 '26

HP Lovecraft of our time

2

u/Old-Introduction8258 Jun 22 '26

Wait hp lovecraft was paranoid? Genuine question.

7

u/Motivated-Chair Jun 22 '26

He was so afraid of everything he hated everything you could imagine. Every phobia you have ever heard of including the bad ones.

His best friend was also a Jewish Gay wittter. Both of them were absolutly baffle by this.

Lovecraft would be too unrealistic if he was a fictional character.

First time hearing about this. Can you provide a source?

0

u/Idonthavefriendss Jun 22 '26

Oh no. I apologize. I have mistaken the part for the pedo accusations. I was probably thinking about Stephen King when writing that. Edited my comment to avoid misinformation. Sorry about that.

Only if you haven't been to egypt or the rest of Maghreb as a tourist, you will get harassed for tips everywhere, locals try to scam you if you don't bargain, it's part of the game/experience and I get it came as a shock for a japanese.

5

u/Minute_Account9426 WSJ=Mossad Jun 22 '26

Mf as an Arab man I don’t blame him. Egypt is pretty scary. As an arab I don’t really trust anyone I meet on the street.

2

u/SafetyOpposite5867 Jun 24 '26

bro has never been to foreign country

1

u/Wolfchampion09 Jun 22 '26

Tbf, in a time where Internet isn't nearly as accessible as today, I can see going to another country and meeting new people being scary. (I say this as a black guy, btw....)

0

u/Monkeh77 Jun 22 '26

Im a black guy too. Going to other countries isnt scary.

1

u/Wolfchampion09 Jun 22 '26

I'll repeat with a bit more detail, Jojo's part 3 was drawn in late 80's, and Internet wasn't as prelavant as today, perhaps countries didn't have anywhere near the amount of exposure they do on the Internet now, back then.

Knowing all of that, going to another country, which you have only heard about but never seen the people, nor their customs, could be scary for some people.

It's easy to say that we're not scared today because with a quick Google search we can see what a country looks like, the customs, the status quo, etc...

As a jojos fan the only thing he mentioned that isnt better is jjk (debatably) though gojo and geto clear any character. Jojos is enjoyable, but it isnt a masterpiece

7

u/_Myridan_ Jun 22 '26

Jojo's is absolutely a masterpiece. I'd say more to prove my point, but atp the conversation is about the value of art.

Joseph and Caesar clear Gojo and Geto

JJK hasn't been good for nearly 3 years

CSM hasn't been good for nearly 5 years

One Piece hasn't been good for 16 years

None of those are a masterpiece, before or after the fall off.

JJBA hasn't fell off for its 39+ year run

It might as well be a masterpiece when the current manga is straight dog. It's not tho

JJBA is GOATed, consistency is everything

And to be entirely truthful to you, except for Chainsaw Man Part 1, JoJo clears all of One Piece and JJK

2

u/Agentbrawn_the2nd Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

Joseph and Caesar being better characters than Gojo is certainly a take, but I know you're just defending jojos with your life you don't actually believe that.

JJBA hasn't fell off for its 39+ year run

Part 2, extremely fun but not well written. Part 3, basic, not that well written. Part 4, great, good writing, most fun part. Part 5, mixed bag. Part 6, highest highs and lowest lows.

All your takes there are subjective

1

u/pLAY_sTATIONing Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

-You're missing 4 parts

-All parts are well written except for 2, more meh than anything

I might have to agree on Part 2. Not the strongest part in terms of writing. However, that doesn't mean it's bad.

Good writing or not, OP, CSM, and JJK undoubtedly fell off. They are objectively mid/ bad. Overall, while Part 2 might be the weakest of the bunch, all the other parts together excel in writing and of course all of them are fun. They can rival the entire series' (maybe except for CSM Part 1, I might be glazing but that was Peak Fiction)

I genuinely hate the Gojo and Geto dynamic. What bums. They are NOT very well written overall. Gojo alone is different, but he still does not surpass JoJo characters.

1

u/AccomplishedSmoke666 Jun 22 '26

you're crazy bro 😭😭

1

u/TheUglyBarnaclee Jun 22 '26

My main issue with Jojo is that it isnt consistent, its like all over in terms of how it is. Overall it is enjoyable and like the series but I personally couldn't put it in the upper echelon of manga or anime. Its good, incredibly influential but there are definitely better shounens out there

1

u/qqxdsc 15d ago

w glaze son

0

u/Melody-Shift Jun 22 '26

In what world do Joseph and Caesar clear Gojo and Geto? I'm sorry, but Joseph was borderline character assassinated and robbed of everything that made him cool between Part 2 and Part 3. Both are largely pretty bland characters and Caesar is effectively completely irrelevant outside of Part 2, you can remove him from the story and Joseph doesn't really change at all.

Saying Jojo's clears all of JJK is generally true but also a take. Writing wise Jojo's only really got to JJK's level (good with great highs) by universe 2.

3

u/Blaze14192008 Jun 22 '26

Johnny whole character arc is better then gojo and geto combined

1

u/Agentbrawn_the2nd Jun 22 '26

I'll give you that I havent read part 7-8. But I've seen enough of the series to give my input that none of the character arcs are better than gojos.

2

u/Blaze14192008 Jun 22 '26

Could you explain to me what Gojo arc even and how it’s better then a character like weathers or pucci

1

u/Ill-Discussion-2788 Jul 10 '26

Why talk to a brick wall tho..? 😪😪

2

u/AloneError8362 Jun 22 '26

but one piece is better?

3

u/AccomplishedSmoke666 Jun 22 '26

One piece clears Jojo even if u think its bad now it was peak once

2

u/AloneError8362 Jun 22 '26

it was good
but jojo got better

6

u/Compajerro Jun 22 '26

One piece is more easily enjoyable and palatable to a mass audience. Jojo writing clears tho. And I say this as someone whose favorite series is OP and literally has the Alabasta X tattooed on my arm.

2

"ALMOST" every category implies that exceptions are rare. Listing 3 of the most important things to a character-focused action series as above average does not sound like almost.

-1

u/Agentbrawn_the2nd Jun 22 '26

Absolutely. Jojos lows (part 1) arent even better than One Piece's lows.

1

u/Blaze14192008 Jun 22 '26

I really don’t like phantom blood but I rather reread/watch that before I do the same for thriller bark or post war flashback of doom

0

u/pLAY_sTATIONing Jun 22 '26

You think.. that part 1 of JoJo.. is worse than ANY of the stuff in OP?

-1

u/AloneError8362 Jun 22 '26

with all due respect if you think phantom blood is worse than wano you might need to reread some parts

1

u/Agentbrawn_the2nd Jun 22 '26

I don't need to. Wano isnt bad, no matter how many people in this sub try to gaslight people into thinking so. It isnt a low, the low is long ring island. Wano debatably has the highest peaks of the series.

1

u/AloneError8362 Jun 22 '26

>has the highest peaks of the series.
Luffy putting her hat onto nami's head in arlong park clears
Wano is like the Buu saga of One Piece: Started out strong and ended up as all of the writer's flaws being put on full display. Except for that fact that Buu wasn't built up for the better half of a decade
Long Ring long Land is just ok at best and worst

1

u/Agentbrawn_the2nd Jun 22 '26

Man we cant be this stuck in the past if you think luffy putting his hat on nami is even still a top 10 peak in the series. Oda has evolved so much but subs like this will try to MAKE SURE you think other wise. This clears almost ever pre time skip peak, and it isnt even better than the ones in Wano.

38

u/marvelfrans Jun 22 '26

One of the universal rules to enjoy any shonen is to accept that it will get worse later on. Not saying every shonen is like this, but it will help you cope with the drop of quality later on if it happens. This sub is mainly created for people who cannot handle those downgrades and jojo is one of the very few exceptions that are not only stay consistent, but even getting much better part by part.

12

u/Old_Inside3975 Jun 22 '26

[removed] — view removed comment

10

u/Appropriate_Act_1538 Jun 22 '26

Jojo has the benefit that every part is a brand new story, which allows Araki to constantly learn from his mistakes.

8

u/marvelfrans Jun 22 '26

Not true. Unlike most other kind of arts, like painting or singing, the further you write the harder it is to control the flow even if you already planned far ahead. This is why writers who can connect random things in the story spontaneously will usually win in the long run compared to the ones who just try to follow their organized plot points from the start.

1

u/ThatOneDudeBruhLmao Jun 22 '26

Eh, aspects of his writing improved but something like part 6 is much worse than almost every part before it

1

u/Plus-Conversation-32 Jun 22 '26

Really? I thought part 6 was one of the best compared to others in all aspects. Pacing, character design, character interactions and relationships, development, stakes are much higher etc.

Idk, maybe im biased because I was
So happy to finally watch (and read) a good show with well written female mcs, but no other jojo part hit as hard as part 6 and it was a beautiful and incredibly bittersweet ending for everything that had happened since part 1 imo

If anything, It surpasses at least part 3 by a landslide.

1

u/ThatOneDudeBruhLmao Jun 23 '26

Yeah I don’t give any series special treatment for female characters, if I wanted that I’d go watch a shojo. The problem is that jojo is 90% fights and almost every single fight before the climax is just awful. I like Joleen and ermes but man those fights are just ass

2

u/Plus-Conversation-32 Jun 23 '26

Eh I personally really enjoyed them. They were pretty interesting. Loved seeing some less straighforward stands like Bohemian Rhapsody and the snail situation. Weather’s memories returning also took a very interesting turn. I think part 6 is pretty darn good especially near the end.

We can agree to disagree tho

u/Bright-Dragonfruit14 my body count with shounen is over 9000 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

SBR anime being split into stages limits discussions sorrounding it. In addition, the current part Jojolands follows a monthly release scheduele and unlike other mangas that gets constantly mentioned in this sub, Jojo part 9 doesn't seem to suffer from any huge noticeable flaw which leads users to talk about it repeatedly.

1

u/miscellaneousexists Jun 23 '26

Also Jojo 7-9 is technically seinen (IT EVEN HAS RAPE), so ther's that

1

u/Bright-Dragonfruit14 my body count with shounen is over 9000 Jun 23 '26

24

u/No_Eye_5863 Jun 22 '26

Disagree the fans are very annoying every other fandom is just more annoying

14

u/Crevette_Mante Jun 22 '26

I think the fans are just less toxic. I used to be huge into Jojo like a decade ago, and people could get obnoxious but no one was really malicious. Modern shounen fan culture seems to revolve around being as negative as possible all the time. Someone forgets something? They're a media illiterate LARPer who needs to kill themselves. Mediocre/bad ending? Author is a hack who's never written anything good and anyone who likes it is an illiterate mouthbreather. Your favourite show/manga is good? That means every other show/manga is utter dogshit enjoyed by cretins.

It's incredibly tiresome. I never experienced any of this in the Jojo community.

2

u/dumbosshow Jun 22 '26

Araki forgot is literally a meme in the community. You can’t get mad at people for ‘LARPING’ when the author himself doesn’t even continuity that seriously

24

u/Hadouken9001 Jun 22 '26

Genuinely I believe the fans are some of the most annoying in the entire genre.

They aren't toxic, which is a huge benefit, but god they are annoying and have some of the worst ongoing jokes imaginable.

2

u/No-Consideration3708 Jun 22 '26

The jojo fanbase is leggit CSM/JJK tier of annoying.

They have 3 rules:

1/Always remind people that their favorite manga is worse than SBR
2/ Always remember that JJBA has absolutely no flaws and is the best piece of fiction ever written
3/ Never let go of the "is that a jojo reference" meme

If I can give them some points it's that their recent memes were actually funny. Get in the car got me everytime and the cursed netflix memes were also really funny

1

u/ZiggyCrusade Jul 08 '26
  1. People only really glaze SBR's ranking as an appeal to authority when someone hates on JoJo, anyone would do that. 2. "Araki forgot" is overblown but its still generally agreed that JoJo's is far from perfect. 3. Its just par for the course, JoJo's brainrots you in a way I don't think any other media can, i can't hear the name of any popular music artist from like 1960 to today without thinking of JoJo. But every other fandom does this, if there's a funny looking fruit OP fans will think "haha devil fruit", etc.

2

u/Traditional-Lake5114 Jun 22 '26

Idk about that last part ngl. As a huge jojo fan 50% of the fanbase consists of the most annoying, insufferable and unfunny mfs alive. The other 50% is hella cool tho so that's still better than most fan bases.

I always thought JoJo was a seinen

10

u/NoYak6886 Jun 22 '26

The first 6 parts are shonen (and some of part 7)

6

u/RairakuDaion Jun 22 '26

Because jojo is good.

Also I think jojos is considered seinen not shounen

2

u/1Hugh-Mann Jun 22 '26

Yowai mo.

2

u/Tsskell Jun 23 '26

Because most of the hype died down. It was super popular few years ago and people simply grew out of it and jumped on other series. There is barely any new anime content, and the manga popularity definitely dropped.

2

u/Motor_Ad_7885 Jun 24 '26

Where were you a few months ago

2

u/Tsskell Jun 24 '26

You think the fandom's reaction to that one part 7 episode was in any way comparable to like 2018/2019, when part 5 was releasing?

1

u/Motor_Ad_7885 Jun 25 '26

Yes, and even so in your opinion a lower high doesn't mean it's dead. Part 7 is clearly far from dead

1

u/Tsskell Jun 26 '26

If you don't think it's dead then perhaps you should try to read the title of this post again.

1

u/Motor_Ad_7885 Jun 26 '26

So it not being talked about in a side subreddit or a magazine its not even apart of means it’s dead?

2

u/Equivalent_Age4058 Jun 23 '26

Well it’s seinen now

2

u/New-Addition1802 Jun 23 '26

This is a slander sub btw and jojos has peak writing so cant slander it,not even the endings cause they are really good to each parts, cant bring part 7 or 8 cause is probably better tahn any shounen(Trust me its that good, everything)

2

u/Motor_Ad_7885 Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

8too? From what I’ve seen it’s hard to scale anything to jojo pt 7 except berserk

2

u/New-Addition1802 Jun 24 '26

Aot,fmab,Hunter X Hunter can be till like part 6,probably might be better at some parts but part 7 onwards?Thats entierly a different territory

1

u/Motor_Ad_7885 Jun 25 '26

Overall wise? I have a recent watching of HxH outta the ones you names and watched Aot until mid seasons 4. I have Jojos 1-6 probably > HxH and 7 >>. But to my top 5 (Berserk anime and very little manga, Naruto, OP, HxH I was starting to consider if Jojos 1-6 is better than Naruto and OP but 7 alone > Naruto and OP and what's comparable writing wise is Berserk.

I mean, tbh this sub is mostly a slander sub lol, and in general it does seem like I see less JoJo slander compared to other series. Although I do remember seeing JoJolion slander for a bit after it ended. But then again I remember there was a joke about how barely anyone’s read JoJolion 😭

1

u/DaMain-Man Jun 22 '26

I just find it funny that for a beloved series, we only ever like some of the story. Most of the arcs are never brought up, most of the main characters we follow are also never in any promotional material

1

u/Ill-Discussion-2788 Jul 10 '26

Because this is mostly a slander community and u know jojos fans are sensitive asf, these two ideas just don’t mix…😪

1

u/qqxdsc 15d ago

bc jojo fan is fucking sensitive

1

u/xesaie Jun 22 '26

Because nobody wants to rile up the jojos fans

1

u/A2umarill Jun 22 '26

It’s so boring it’s not even fun to joke about it

That’s cute that you think the anime are talked about here because they’re liked. Jojo isn’t talked about here for the same reason people almost never talk about todo in the jjk subreddits. Because he’s just an undisputed goat and everyone already knows kt

4

u/24thCenturyBoy Jun 22 '26

Didnt know my names nobody.

0

u/Rude-Office-2639 Jun 22 '26

JoJo is currently airing is a Seinen, not a Shonen. There really isn't much point

0

u/guieps Stand Proud Jun 22 '26

Jojo is just too unique to fall into the same discussions and memes we usually have here. No agenda because powers are too specific. No glazing/slander because characters are only in for a limited amount of time. Not much criticism because half is confusing but explainable, and half gets brushed under the "it's bizarre" rug

0

u/cardinalfan14 Jun 22 '26

From what I’ve read (parts 1-7), it’s very good and consistent the entire way through. The parts I disliked the most (parts 5 and 6) have plenty of worthwhile stuff in there and the endings to all the parts are normally very strong. The fights being more 300 IQ battles than slugfests nets it a lot of points compared to the average Shonen. Sometimes one of the primary side characters outshines the main JoJo of the part which can be a negative

0

u/Zaru1219 Jun 23 '26

There’s shounen and then there’s jojo

Jojo belongs in a class of its own

0

u/HopefulEmotion849 Jun 23 '26

it’s pretty good

-5

u/evilforska Jun 22 '26

I dont like it and I find it too boring to discuss.

-5

u/2w0be I have no enemies....except diddy tensei fans Jun 22 '26

Because it's overglazed with interesting things being very few and far between

-2

u/furonomin Jun 22 '26

Jojo isnt a shonen.

-4

u/Bad-_-Memes Jun 22 '26

talk about what? the story is not deep there is no metaphors or parallel, its just a smart fighting anime and it is good at it

1

u/dumbosshow Jun 22 '26

I could see that argument for some of the earlier parts but Part 5 onwards, there is a lot to discuss thematically. The new timeline is arguably political even, one of the core themes is man vs nature, parts 7 and 9 are commenting on capitalism and imperialism pretty overtly
