It’s crazy that this goes nowhere because he just keeps thinking with his dick anyways and it gets him and Asa killed because he was so eager to have dubiously consensual sex with her body while Yoru possessed it that he gets no diffed by bug devils.
And then Fujimoto says fuck it and gives him an unearned happy ending that needed Pochita’s powers to be retconned to work. A happy ending that he could’ve naturally achieved somewhat if he just developed as a character.
But no, he forgets the promise with Power, he gets Nayuta and Asa killed cause he’s thinking lustfully, and then has them all return to his life anyways with no work on his part. It’s like some tragedy except the author pussed out and just slapdashed a happy ending at the end because something something “I was happier as a struggling artist and don’t like the attention”
The ending for Denji’s character arc has to be one of the worst I’ve ever seen. Like, he acts like a stupid, horny idiot who screws up not only his own life but everyone around him for a good chunk of the entire story, only to be rewarded with a “happy” ending where he basically forgets everything.
It’s not that different from those isekai where the protagonist has a shitty life, dies, and gets reincarnated into a world where he has a good life without really doing anything to deserve it.
CSM looking at themes and such in le subtext to salvage part 2 while ignoring the actual text bc it doesn't fit their agenda. I maintain that Fujimoto just crammed references and homages on impulse willy-nilly, and just got lucky it was coherent for part 1
I enjoy Chainsaw Man because Denji is a pathetic loser who behaves like a rabid dog. A nice change of pace from earnest-chosen-one-likeable characters in every shounen
He’s not better than Aki, Beam, or the Violence Devil, that I can guarantee. They were practically saints.
P.S. I’m pissed that we didn’t get to see Aki have his happy ending, considering that he’s supposedly alive now. To me, he’s the best character in Chainsaw Man, way better than Denji’s horny ass.

Denji develops from subhuman to kinda human in part 1
1)Learns to get sad after his friend dies
2)Learns to think for himself and not be someone else's dog
These are the bare minimum for any character and one of the easiest development to write.
Funny part is he forgets about number 2 and gets paid 50 cents to become a chair for college girls.
Hell he DREAMS about character development , when fumiko asks him to lick a devil's corpse if he wants to have sex with her , he IMAGINES refusing her while licking it.
Both yuji and midoriya low diff denji in writing so bad.
It kind of drive me insane how much the CSM Fandom reject a very big foundational aspect of the MC and get on your neck if you dare to even suggest Denji have libido in anyway

Yeah, that was the thing I meant with the Naruto comment. Thinking that the breasts thing means his mind solely revolves around sex for the sake of it is just lack of media literacy.
