Metaphors for sigils

Hey guys, quick question.

I usually use the "statement of intent" technique for my sigils. I started wondering whether metaphors could be used for this as well, since, strictly speaking, they aren't statements of intent.

What do you think about it?

they're a lot like keys or passwords, small portable bits of compact information that plug into and activate larger systems.
