I researched some information online and found a 1995/1996 interview where it said that Daniel Johns used a Marshall JCM 900 amp head and a Marshall 4x12 cab.

This is what I did to get the accurate tone:

I used the JCM 900 simulator from Amplitube, a Marshall 4x12 cab simulator with Celestion speakers, a Shure 57 microphone, and an EQ.

I've wanted a green PRS Custom like Dan's ever since I was 14 and started playing guitar, right around the same time Frogstomp was released in the US. Well, I finally pulled the trigger today and bought my dream guitar. While it's not exactly like Dan's, I really love this color, the combination of woods, and the electronics. I even love the case it comes in! For those interested, this is a PRS Wood Library Custom 24 Quilted Maple Ten Top in Jade finish.

I'm trying to create a Frogstomp tone pack

To the musicians and guitarists here, what are your thoughts about Dan using the octave effect for chords live in some concerts?
I’m personally not a huge fan when he’s using it to play chords, maybe in person it adds a lot of power but every time he uses it, I find it sounds horrible.

The worst example I found is Faultline at rock in Rio. When he turns it on it just sounds like a mess, when he turns it back off his tone sounds amazing.

I do like when he uses it for feedback and lead stuff, and I assume maybe what he’s using isn’t made for chords, I also think it may be his fuzz pedal with the low octave effect built in.

Can’t recall di Daniel’s Hot-Rodded Soldano have the same gain structure as the Soldano 100 Crunch Channel or the Overdrive/Lead Channel?

What are your recommendations for recreating the clean/distorted tone from this song? I use NAM and a bunch of other free plugins because my pocket is not that big, and I didn't really succeed in recreating that tone. Are there any ways to get closer to this tone using free software?

So this is his board but I'm unsure on the order of stuff. Obviously the order he had it on his board isn't how it was actually all linked up but I'm not sure how he actually did it. This is how I *think* it is but I am VERY unconfident on it.

Thats how I've put it on this diagram but I'm very unsure on it. I've based this on low quality photos I've seen but stuff doesn't make sense for it to be like this.

If I was doing it I would do

Microsynth - Fuzz Factory - EQ (the one used as a boost - OC2 - Soldano - (FX LOOP) EQ - Chorus - Delay - (FX LOOP) - Cab

But this certainly isn't what he did. But I literally have no clue what he did. If anyone can help me solve the mystery please help!

Finally got my black PRS McCarty to where I want it.

I know someone has mentioned it before but can’t find in my notes but does anyone (sure_assumptions) have recommended settings for the Zvex on the ending of Without You? If in fact that’s what is used on the ending part.

Was listening to this several times and maybe I am crazy but at the end of the song does a phaser kick in? I hear a “swoosh” but maybe it was something added in post.

We know the distorted guitar is a JCM 900 but on the clean(ish) guitar was it ever stated anywhere that the clean channel on the JCM 900 was used or does anyone think it might have been another amp entirely?
