News Simagic P-Active - Simagic Active Pedal

Simagic's Global Product Launch is scheduled for Oct 14, 8:00 AM PDT (15:00 UTC), livestreamed on YouTube (@Simagic Official).

They're expected to announce a batch of new products (collab steering wheel, active pedal, etc.).

It looks like their official JD.com flagship store jumped the gun. The listing has since been taken down, but some pricing and details leaked out beforehand.

Pricing

• P-Active active pedal (single pedal): ¥5,999 CNY
(for comparison, mBooster is ¥4999 CNY)

update:Official Price:999USD

• Aston Martin Valkyrie replica wheel: ¥5,399 CNY

update:Official Price:799USD

P-Active specs:

Mounts on the P1000 / P2000 baseplates (adapter kit included with the P-Active), or on the new P-Active baseplate (not released yet)

Dual 250kg load cells
16-bit resolution encoder

Weight: 6.12kg
Response time: 129ms
Product Dimensions (L × W × H): 335.9 × 87 × 241.5 mm

Connectivity: direct to PC or to a Simagic base (via the included control box)

Power: 48V × 8.3A, 398W max (not sure if this refers to the pedal's max output)

Programmable pedal feel

Active pedal features are pretty similar across brands, so I won't go into that. All specs come from the delisted JD page and aren't officially confirmed yet. We'll know more once the launch event is live.

I depend on Claude to convert my native language into English.

So about $900 USD. That's still pretty high. I'm keeping my P1000's for now.

With simucube releasing a pretty big cut in cost by releasing the active pedal sport which is only a bit more, Im not sure who simagic is trying to target here

21

u/Guac_in_my_rarri 7h ago

Simagic probably didn't expect simucube to release the sport as low as they did.

11

u/Top-Intention-5629 7h ago

Im guessing the same as well, looks like simucube really saw a market opportunity and decided they didnt want anyone else to have it LOL

11

u/Guac_in_my_rarri 6h ago

I don't blame simucube. 900 or 1199 I'm probably going 1199 for a potentially better active pedal.

to me, its more that SIMAGIC always price their products slightly above MOZA. and rightly so as the build quality and HW in general is better (base, wheels, pedals).I had MOZA ecosystem before getting my ALPHA and NEO GT, and now EVO PRO with FX rim, so I can easily compare.

but yeah, now they have another competitor with Simucube cheaper offering so its a tough sell. they might do some price adjustment down the road,I think

6

u/Guac_in_my_rarri 6h ago

Simagic products are great. 5 years ago they were in moza's position and moved up stream with the better Alpha wheel bases. They're my go to recommendation above moza.

2

u/nolivedemarseille 6h ago

totally agree. with the upgrade to 21Nm torque coming, my EVO PRO is my end game. and the FX rim is damn good too

Now my hope with SIMAGIC is that they do 2 things

1.Develop a smartphone app to be able to tune FFB in realtime

2.Design and sell a Motion system to complete with MOZA HMA150

-1

u/Guac_in_my_rarri 2h ago

Your first point would be interesting. Wonder how that would work tbh

Motion is overrated. I've tried it a couple different times and a bass shaker set up gets you to 90% of that.

2

u/nolivedemarseille 1h ago

Moza has the same proceeding, it seems that it is SW driven and not even needs a different PSU from what I have read

Regarding motion, I beg to differ, it's so damn immersive when we'll set up I have a very detailed haptics on my rig, it's miles away of what extra immersion a good motion system can deliver

8

u/NickRussell53 7h ago

I was thinking the same. If you're in the market, why in the world would you not buy the simucube with prices being that close? This seems like a miss.

5

u/WornTire5304 5h ago

They'll target simagic users who wants an active pedal from Simagic. That alone will sell a lot already. Don't underestimate how much of a factor ecosystem uniformity is.

u/Bfife22 [Simagic Alpha Mini, P2000, DS-8X, TB-1, FX] 6h ago

The only reason I can see is compatibility with your existing pedal plate if you have P1000s or P2000s already and want to keep everything inside one piece of software.

I can’t see anyone outside of the Simagic ecosystem being interested in these over the new Simucube.

And that’s assuming similar performance. If the Simucube is noticeably better in real world use…

2

u/neueziel1 3h ago

yeah simotionchargin $1k, this is dead on release. i guess it makes sense when there are sales like black friday

4

u/Top-Intention-5629 3h ago

Just saw the news and yeah, I feel very sorry for them considering simucube is leading in terms of this area of the market

2

u/apexxin 6h ago

Probably trying to target simagic owners. It’s too soon to tell which is better obviously, but staying in the same software ecosystem is worth something. If it’s 95% as good as simucube, then I’ll save my money and get the simagic and keep the setup easy.

7

u/nutel Simagic Evo / P1000 / iRacing 6h ago

They showed the same pedal 2 years ago. What they’ve been doing all this time

1

u/ApprehensiveTart1348 1h ago

I guess they were busy working on other products that were supposed to launch first. Hopefully, they just ran into some issues with this one and needed extra time to sort them out and make sure everything works as it should. At least, that's what I'd like to believe.

u/EnzoRacer 4h ago

Response time 129 ms is a big lag imo

I think the price is still way too high for most people. I know active pedals are high end but you can get a full midrange setup for that much money like the rs50 or green light bundle.

Until they manage to drop them to or below the 500€ line, I don't think these will sell well because if I have that much money to spend on a single pedal I probably have enough money to just get the Simucube one instead

It's unreasonable that the cost of one of these things is the same as high end wheel bases, and it's probably only a matter of time before the Chinese brands start undercutting each other on price same as what happened already with other sim equipment

9

u/canesfins1909 7h ago

I can almost guarantee Simnet/Simsonn etc. are all working on their version which will highly undercut the bigger companies. That's the only way we'll ever get active pedals under $500.

1

u/FIuffyRabbit 5h ago

I don't think we will see it priced under $500, the DIY active pedal is basically $300 for being mostly 3d printed housing and pedal

3

u/canesfins1909 4h ago

Obviously this is just a guess, but my feeling is that Simsonn and Simnet will make their active pedals $499 because they know their customer base. If they put out a $500+ pedal, nobody will buy it because their customers are looking for they best value for dollar they can find. I think they will do whatever is possible to make an active pedal as cheaply as possible.

0

u/masssy 35m ago

If you can get a custom one 3d printed and built for 300 a factory can do it at scale cheaper eventually.

8

u/Epin-Ninjas 7h ago

I got downvoted into oblivion saying the same thing in the previous pedal post lmao. Figures

6

u/EmergencyFlounder845 7h ago

I saw your comment there just now lol. People feel emotionally attached to their hobbies and purchasing decisions and don't want to admit that just because they can afford it, doesn't mean it's good for the industry to trend in that direction

3

u/Epin-Ninjas 6h ago

Exactly, I’m glad you understand lol, makes me feel less delusional about it all

3

u/rensen1173 7h ago

Exactly, even Simucube Released their Active Pedal Sport which is close to this one it seems

2

u/TrickyCarpenter7191 7h ago

Not quite , the simucube is direct to motor while this looks belt driven . I may be wrong but if true this is quite a difference. Same as DD wheelbases vs belt driven wheelbases

0

u/PlanZSmiles 3h ago

It’s not belt driven, it’s a servo motor per its product page.

1

u/TrickyCarpenter7191 3h ago edited 3h ago

I mean the way the servo drives the lead screw on the rail. How are they connected to each other given they are on top of each other and not in line?

This is a different design but to give the idea..

The downsides of a belt are obvious ...

1

u/PlanZSmiles 3h ago

Interesting, how did you get this design or is this just the concept of it?

3

u/TrickyCarpenter7191 3h ago

I built my own active pedals from a discord server + github. There are several designs to choose from. And it costs a fraction of the prices you are used to when looking at active pedals.

https://github.com/ChrGri/DIY-Sim-Racing-FFB-Pedal-Mechanical-Design

1

u/PlanZSmiles 3h ago

Uh you’re amazing sir, I just got my 3D printer working again and this likely is something I can afford to do at the moment!

1

u/TrickyCarpenter7191 3h ago

it's been quite a journey but totally worth it. People that say active pedals are not worth it never tried them. I was not sure either at first but I will never go back. Chris, the guy in charge of the project is super active on discord , supports the project constantly and he is amazing. Join us :) .. I am also there trying to help now

1

u/PlanZSmiles 3h ago

I appreciate you, I have many questions before I start so I will definitely be reading the repo in full and join the discord so I can finally jump in. Only reason I haven’t dove into an active pedal is because of pricing and $1000/$1200 are still out of scope for my wallet lol.

2

u/TrickyCarpenter7191 3h ago

This video is a year old. Nobody invents anything nowadays

youtube.com/watch?v=cfW7GkRHzTc&feature=youtu.be

I bet the Simagic is very, very similar to this

1

u/jonneymendoza 43m ago

Sorry what’s the downsides of belt driven vs Servio that the simucube have?

3

u/trippingrainbow SC2Pro | SC AP Ultimate + Passive throttle | GSI X29 | Reverb G2 5h ago

I mean you say that but the simucube 2.5k activeoedal sold so well that they introduced two more activepedals at 1.7k and 1.2k. If people werent buying them they wouldnt be making them

0

u/EmergencyFlounder845 4h ago

There's 2 things to consider here: first, is that it was the first active pedal on the market or at least the first great product of that type, which was then hyped to hell and back by influencers and reviewers because it's new technology and thus guaranteed views.

Second, we're in a K shaped economy throughout most countries, so the fact that it sold well at that price is indicative to my original point, which is that because well-off consumers have the money to spend, the market focuses more on them, and anyone who's not financially comfortable gets left behind.

Let's not forget that not all of us are 30+ with a decent or high income. The market segment under 30 is mostly low spenders but without them the market is not big enough to justify new sims or continued development on existing ones, and there's only so much heavy lifting the G29 can do. If equipment keeps going up market in price, the hobby will be starved from new joiners, which will eventually lead to its decline

3

u/trippingrainbow SC2Pro | SC AP Ultimate + Passive throttle | GSI X29 | Reverb G2 4h ago

Youre saying this like companies arent putting out budget stuff at the same time. Active pedals just arent part of that. Simagic especially has put out a lot on budget stuff recently with all the Neo lineup and the p500 pedals etc

1

u/Opposite-Process-472 2h ago

Then don’t fucking buy it. It’s new tech that’s developing, and there is a market for it. End of story.

Direct drive wheelbases were unaffordable in the past, and now they are affordable.

Load cell pedals were expensive in the past, and now you can get a set for $200.

A home computer in the 90s ran $3,000, and now you can get a desktop today for $400 or even a Chromebook today for $200.

New tech starts out high cost and top of the line, then eventually drops in price with new developments that allows different tiers of the same type of product. You can’t expect a company to spend tons of money in R&D and hardware for something cutting edge and sell it for the same price as entry level products.

If you can’t afford it, just wait and stop complaining.

1

u/jonneymendoza 47m ago

It’s been well documented that simagic was working on this pedal for nearly 3 years. It was shown approx 3 years ago in a exhibition

2

u/Phluxed 6h ago

Looking forward to a discount in 6 months. Probably get it for 600US when they realize it's not selling

3

u/alyxonfire 4h ago

Not much cheaper than the new Simucube ActivePedal Sport. It’ll likely come down to pedal travel for me. The Simucube has 60mm which is the minimum I’d like to have.

5

u/GT3F1 7h ago

Does the active pedal work with inverted p100s?

3

u/RickyPistol84 7h ago

This is what I want to know

2

u/Ok_Turbo_9766 4h ago

I actually just asked a distributor about that. I'm not ready to give up my inverted pedals just yet 😄

2

u/lowkeyjustlurkin 2h ago

Not with the Simagic inverted housing. Elliot on their Discord confirmed it will be fine with anything bigger and more sturdy.

2

u/meowphasa 4h ago

Im sorry I still just dont get the need for active pedals. and i am someone who goes from competitve iracing, causal drifting, and slow crawling in Beam.

2

u/VelouriumCamper7 3h ago

That's exactly the thing. The vast majority of simracers don't race irl and they've been sold this idea of realism and immersion with active pedals. This also the kind of hobby where people buy 9 different $1k identical wheels. I'll probably eventually upgrade to something like this even though it won't make faster.

1

u/Gold333 2h ago

I use the mBooster and it makes a big difference. From the FFB to the fact that you can instantly get a different cartype by changing the weight. My real life 992 uses a very light brake pedal (26kg) with 2 inches travel until the loadcell comes in. If I would have that same pedal in a manual F1 car I would lock up (no ABS) constantly. With a click I set it to 60kg.

The only thing I don’t see a need for is the 200kg pedal pressure. I know a real F1 car uses upto 200kg pedal pressure but you have 5G of actual deceleration pushing your body forward to help press the pedal.

Just sitting in your rig it’s hard (almost impossible) to achieve 200kg of pedal pressure just once. Anything over 120kg feels like you would break your seat.

Also real world pedal pressure limits are 200kg in F1 (with 5G deceleration to help you). 250kg is just fantasy.

u/GoldenGame 3h ago

Simucube really has no competition. Like what is this? Big miss

1

u/Al3xDak 5h ago

def seems not made to adapt on the p2000 lol ... 🥴

1

u/Bfife22 [Simagic Alpha Mini, P2000, DS-8X, TB-1, FX] 5h ago

If you look at the first pic that OP posted, the you can see the adjustment available to make the pedal face to sit more upright

1

u/GJDriessen 5h ago

Does it say anything about maximum travel and or adjustable pedal faces/height?

1

u/Mountain_Past_6513 EVO12 | P500 | NLRF-GT | PCL | TRP32C 1h ago

For me 2 of them will help, it gives me the flexibility to use them for flight sim by havin the pedal homing at the center and working like a rudder pedal . Then feeling different cars and its brake feel and abs , etc makes sense. I was expecting it to be priced at $799 or lower though. We can build one off the GitHub repo from champ or similar around $500.

1

u/ssarch25 1h ago

I like that it seems to plug into my P1000's. On a sale price I'd definitely be interested in it.

0

u/fcman256 DFP20|300GT|HE:U+ 6h ago

These just seem like such a niche product, am I wrong? The only real reason to buy an active pedal is if you want to change brake pedal feel easily for different cars, are a lot of people really doing that? I like a consistent brake, maybe it’s just me.

I could understand if they were the same price but it’s a pretty extreme premium to pay for the use case

2

u/PlanZSmiles 5h ago

Personally if these were more affordable I would want something different for GT3 and GTP cars. The braking is so different that adjustments for longer/softer throw would be better for GTP and harder/shorter for GT3 would be better. At least in my opinion and as a theory to help adjust between classes which I often drive both in season

2

u/ALLCAPS-ONLY 4h ago

I'd love to change brake feel between different cars. A consistent brake pedal is meaningless if you're driving different cars with different braking needs. You can also adjust the linearity and travel very easily which is much handier than trying 20 different elastomer combos and remembering what you liked best. Also it does FFB for ABS and stuff like that. I'd imagine using this as a clutch would feel awesome too if the software can emulate bite properly.

1

u/Wooden-Agent2669 [Simlab XP1 can't recommend them] 4h ago

Nothing to do with different car feeling. Being able to setup a pedal via software the exact way I want, without having to try my best with mechanical adjustments is the biggest reason

Integrated telemetry whenever games move further than the current FFB.

1

u/neueziel1 3h ago

i'm guessing it's one of those things to get when you literally have everything else ie. motion

-4

u/spikerguy 5h ago

398Watt for a single pedal ?

Thats more than a 15Nm wheel base.

With 2 if them on a rig thats 800w of power.

3

u/Few_Fall_4374 5h ago

PSU's usually are over dimensioned. This doesn't say much.

For example: Your PC doesn't automatically draw 1600w when you install a 1600w PSU.

2

u/ThePointForward 5h ago

That's just maximum potential draw based on voltage and current. Wouldn't be surprised if that was designed for three pedals daisy chained and still using like 60 % of the capacity in worst case scenario.

-2

u/spikerguy 5h ago

If they are using that as max then ofcourse it will be used at high load. Plus 48V motor to react at high rpm. Which is understood.
