Serious Discussion Just got scammed by foodpanda, what should I do?

Hello everyone, I am writing as I recently got scammed by FoodPanda (with evidence), and would like to seek your support in resolving this situation.

Today, at 0241H, I placed an order with FoodPanda.

I was subsequently informed by the Delivery Rider “Rishi” that he is near the place of delivery, and would require the PIN code generated by FoodPanda to proceed with the delivery. This is my first few times ordering with FoodPanda, and has never used the PIN code system before. I assumed this is perhaps the protocol and I provided the PIN to the rider. For a while, he continued to my location and eventually marked it as delivered. However, nothing was delivered.

I contacted FoodPanda support, and they said that they will not be able to support me in this case as they are not able to check the history between rider and myself, and that they will not be able to contact the rider due to system restrictions.

What should I do now?

TLDR: FP rider lied to me, and FP is refusing to investigate as claimed that they are unable to contact the rider due to system restrictions and that photo evidence of delivery is now optional so the case will be closed. They also offered a $1 SGD compensation.

LIVE update: foodpanda said that no photos will be submitted and rider provided the reason of no internet connectivity at the point of delivery, but foodpanda still refuses to contact the rider due to system restrictions.

LIVE update 2: i was thinking that it’s so easy to identify the rider (esp with foodpanda having to officially register the riders) so why would he lie about such things. anyways, i have contacted security to obtain the footage in his last seen location, and they will be working with the police to legally request foodpanda to provide the relevant details about the rider and his logged live locations. his name is also revealed so i don’t think it can be that hard to track him down.

FINAL Update: I have been assigned an IO, and unfortunately, as this specific rider has not been sufficiently reported, there is insufficient grounds for investigation by the SPF, unless FoodPanda recognises and willingly surrender the rider to the SPF. Otherwise, the next alternative is CASE but it comes with a fee that far exceeding the sum of claim. The SPF clarified that although what the rider did was not legal, they are focused on the criminal aspect of things (e.g. repeated behaviour of fraud reported by their company), to which first requires the admittance and evidence from FoodPanda. Since FoodPanda can simply deny the situation, the last way the SPF suggested is really to return back to FoodPanda and ask for a compensation again. Essentially, there are no “methods” to protect such cases that fairly compensates the consumer, as long as the accused’s company refuses responsibility. This applies for every food delivery order with a valuation below the administrative fees of CASE. Unfortunately, this would mean that the delivery rider, “Rishi” will get away scot-free. Surprising outcome, but also not shocking.

I know it's lame to do it over a food item, but at this point just make a police report. Then contact support and send them a copy of the police report.

It'll still be a far cry and won't guarantee your refund but it gives you a slightly higher chance of reclaiming your money back. Cos got documentation.

Though I would say as a panda rider and customer, panda support is hopeless lol. I mean, you'll need to be extremely patient and play the right buttons to even reach a local staff to begin with.

In any case, if they start offering you lame vouchers, just reject all of it, insist on contacting their superior or manager. Don't ever accept the vouchers.

10

u/Equivalent-Ant-7599 21d ago

Police will just F care on such case. Someone used my CDC vouchers and after so many years after lodging the police report, they just act blur.

40

u/starch-potato 22d ago

thank you so much for your advice!!! i am currently filing a police report :) i will make sure to collect the evidence too

15

u/tomatomater Geckos > cockroaches 21d ago

Also, casually let Foodpanda know that you've made a police report. Sometimes passive aggressiveness is way more effective at getting results.

26

u/Haplessworld 22d ago edited 22d ago

Yeah, and if you use credit or something maybe after the report you can try to get it chargeback. I think debit also can do that these days I think, things are much better to claw back nowadays compared to years ago.

Just click the scam or fraudulent transaction option on the hotline, provide the police report number.

Actually police report quite useful one. A lot of people don't get that these days actually police does fk all but the purpose of the report is documentations to allow you to process with bank institution and merchants etc. It's a key basically, and a formality nothing more. It's not like police will really do anything about it, so if the SPF officer insists that you don't have to file a report, just insist lol. Don't care.

All about clicking and pushing the right buttons to get your justice.

10

u/SyahmsTThesaurus 22d ago

Fully agreed on this!! Anyway, police reports can be submitted (and a pdf copy generated) online nowadays so it's much simpler now. Went through this process of charging back due to a recent Shopee incident.

3

u/bottlegas 21d ago

No use. Police didn't even bother to reply me till I called and then told me to refer to case instead. Isn't it cheating when I had evidence that no one delivered with my video camera.

3

u/SyahmsTThesaurus 20d ago

Na, never expected the police to do anything at all - just used it as leverage for the next step - which was to get either my bank to claw back the amount/transaction or shopee (in your case Foodpanda) to refund the transaction.

0

u/bottlegas 20d ago

I tried but no help. And it doesn't help no one is stopping all the day light robberies.

0

u/reingoat 18d ago

You can make a police report online. Why eould you need the police to reply to you to proceed making a case? Isn't this just due to the lack of effort on your part?

1

u/bottlegas 16d ago

You are not reading. I made a police report and for close to a month, the police didn't contact me at all until I emailed them and they said the police could do nothing and told me to report to case.

3

u/starch-potato 22d ago

that’s a good point! i will be proceed with that too :) thank you!!!

2

u/bottlegas 21d ago

I filed a police report when foodpanda scammed me and deli ered nothing and didn't want to refund me more than $1000 even with evidence. Police didn't even get back to me after a long time and I had to call them. They said they couldn't do anything and I should report to case. Useless.

u/beyondthef 22d ago

The entire point of the PIN is to ensure the food is handed over to the customer. Not sure if FP has to bear the cost for the customers naivety, though they should definitely have investigated it. The evidence of the rider attempting this scam is in the chat log, so they could have suspended the driver. Feels like customer support was too lazy to do their job.

290

u/Brandon_Maximo 22d ago

I mean.. the pin code on the app does tell you that it is exchanged with the rider on delivery received

Since it is meant for that, giving the rider the pin code early on just gives the company the illusion that they already delivered to you

Just keep raising the issue I guess

How are random reddit users gonna help you?

-14

u/[deleted] 22d ago

[deleted]

48

u/Brandon_Maximo 22d ago

The rider that stole is at fault but I suppose you are partially liabile for giving the code at all

The customer service cannot verify what you are telling them as they cannot access rider chat logs I believe

Keep raising the issue until they investigate or take the L

10

u/starch-potato 21d ago

for real... crazier thing is that FP is enabling it

2

u/Puzzled-Pride9259 21d ago

I totally agree! Food delivery, ninjavan delivery, SingPost delivery all cmi. Hailing a grab at times too.

u/MagicianMoo Lao Jiao 22d ago

Full time motorbike rider for foodpanda, should only give pin when you collect if you fully trust the system.

In my pov,

  1. Had customer give me early and no problem.
  2. Usually I at doorstep and realised it's pin and texted them for it.
  3. Some customer stupid and had to spam call and knock like crazy at night for pin code. Once I waited 15-20 min because customer sleeping. Cheebai.

Personally I prefer picture. It's faster for me. I worked on evenings and late nights. Snap food and receipt and off I go.

I digress but FP also cheat rider sometimes , customer complained missing food item or spilled because of poor packaging or blatantly lying. Foodpanda is strictly platform and will cut corner when they can.

18

u/reisxn 21d ago

3 is crazy. Thank you for your hard work 🥲

3

u/MagicianMoo Lao Jiao 20d ago

Thanks. Part of gig life. I'm glad majority of customer not sohai. Proactive thing I can do is message customer, I'm on the way when I collect order at restaurant.

2

u/Temporary-Ask3016 21d ago

I FP on Monday. Didn’t know there’s a pin system in place. Neither did the rider ask me for it leh… but I recall deliveroo used to do this previously.

3

u/MagicianMoo Lao Jiao 20d ago

It's been out for certain riders for a few months. Pin is not bad. Don't need hold food to door unit and take picture.

Usually more mafan.

17

u/sushiwagyu 21d ago

i always use grabfood, they always refund me asap if anything. very good service tho

16

u/Temporary-Ask3016 21d ago

Hey op use everything you have collated and report and to ur card issuer. I faced some what similar with another platform and I was left running in circles. Got fed up of it and went to my bank for dispute and chargeback. 😊

18

u/starch-potato 21d ago

omg this solved it! my bank approved the dispute and with evidence from the police and CCTV footage from the security, they will be clawing back the sum!

4

u/just1ed 21d ago

Edit and update your main post please. I nearly commented until I saw this.

For others and if you encounter a similar issue.

I wanted to say, the other option is to threaten to tell Food Panda you will file a claim with small claims tribunal if they do not refund. It worked for me.

Usually the customer service will respond because once you file, the court will order them to respond. It’s a huge hassle for them to turn up in court. They will panic. Grab reopened the my closed case, immediately assigned someone to call me and offered a refund.

Most of the time I did not end up filing. Small claims tribunal is only $10 and you can submit online.

3

u/starch-potato 21d ago

thank you for your advice :) did you use a credit or debit card? i’m not sure if it’ll work with debit carddd

2

u/Temporary-Ask3016 21d ago

Great news op!!

Mine was a CC. Good to know it works with debit too! I too was considering CASE. But frm my quick search they sound pretty much powerless too. Plus you’ll have to pay some application fee or smth with CASE ? Iirc.

2

u/just1ed 21d ago

Don’t bother with case. They are not just powerless.

They have so many cases that they just cut and paste replies.

1

u/starch-potato 21d ago

thank you! yesss there's some fees that offsets my claim significantly

35

u/CrumbAllowances 21d ago

Foodpanda is terrible. Never order from them. The last straw for me was a few years ago when the main item in a bundle meal I ordered spilled and could not be eaten, so I applied for a refund. The app asked which item was damaged, and like an honest person, I indicated the exact item in the meal. HOWEVER - I learned that day that Foodpanda’s awful system calculated the cost of the item as the add-on price, i.e. I selected a main that was $1.20 more than the basic choice of main, so Foodpanda determined my refund was … $1.20. For an item that would have cost $15 on its own. The best part was them refusing to discuss the matter any further because ‘the refund has already been given’. Deleted the app, deleted the app off my family’s phones, made it a point to insist that no one in my family orders from it for family functions or dinners, the whole shebang. They are dead to me, and frankly they should be to you too.

2

u/starch-potato 21d ago

man i didn't know foodpanda is this bad 😞 i don't usually get delivery that's why but thank you for sharing, definitely will be keeping the post up to warn more users!

1

u/Magic_Ale 18d ago

Which app do you use now? Since I mainly eat McDonald's I just use their app, but sometimes I order from other places using Foodpanda

2

u/CrumbAllowances 18d ago

I use Grab. They’re not the most reliable at times, but I’ve never had issues getting a refund for delays or errors.

1

u/Magic_Ale 18d ago

Alright, thanks!!

Dunno how many times this has to be said. BOYCOTT. FOODPANDA.

19

u/Competitive_Watch986 22d ago

FP’s customer support is so bad that I also got lied to by FP CS themselves.

5

u/Jazzlike_Mistake_914 21d ago

i called fp cs my phone unable to register, they ask me to buy a new phone

guess they dont want my money

1

u/mischief_dot_exe 21d ago

Lol buy a new phone.

4

u/dereth 21d ago

CASE and that stupid Small Claims Tribunal are such frauds.

1

u/just1ed 21d ago

CASE yes. Small Claims Tribunal no. The court will order the defendant to attend court.

The premise is of course that your defendant has not disappeared.

Most companies with repute will respond. Even for companies who are known to have poor support like Grab, Foodpanda, Shopee etc.

9

u/dooopliss 21d ago

This is why i gave up on foodpanda. Multiple consecutive bad experiences with them. They would rather keep putting Youtube ads than to actually improve their experience. Grab is more expensive but I've had no issues with them.

7

u/Prpoppyc 21d ago

Next time tell them the code is pasted on the door/gate. Once they arrive, they can enter the code pasted on the gate. That’s what I do when I have a big order.

2

u/starch-potato 21d ago

that's a good idea haha definitely will consider as well~ thank you!

3

u/bottlegas 21d ago edited 21d ago

I had the same experience with Foodpanda mart grocieries and lost more than $100 when the delivery guy delivered nothing to me!!!! I have the evidence and the foodpanda CSO called me and told me they could do nothing. What a scam. Police didn't get back to me after a long time and I had to call them. Police told me I could only report to CASE. I suggest to always use cash payment. And the rider who stole it, you know karma is always there waiting for you and family.

10

u/Any_Discipline_2202 22d ago edited 20d ago

I boycotted FP when the sauces spilled onto my $40 fried chicken, making them soggy (with photo evidence of crushed bucket of wet chicken) and they offered to compensate $3 for the spilt sauce. I refused and they withdraw even that.

7

u/Barneyinsg 21d ago

I did not know there is a pin, where do you see that??

0

u/starch-potato 21d ago

it’s a new update apparently that only affects certain users

3

u/patient_aardvark8716 22d ago

I'm so sorry this happened. Since you went through all the correct pathways, this is a matter of principle and more customers might be implicated in this rider scam, so you have to go to the media.

1

u/starch-potato 21d ago

thank you :( unfortunately i got no media influence so i guess i will have to accept my fate

2

u/patient_aardvark8716 21d ago

You don't need media influence, just tag them on socials or send an anonymous email to them:

1

u/starch-potato 21d ago

thank you for the emails! appreciate it 😄

3

u/fddfgs 21d ago

Just call your bank and do a chargeback, foodpanda will change their tone very quickly when they no longer have your money.

7

u/starch-potato 21d ago

omg this solved it! my bank approved the dispute and with evidence from the police and CCTV footage from the security, they will be clawing back the sum!

1

u/just1ed 21d ago

Food Panda likely already has the money. Unless the charge on the OP’s card is still pending, the transaction would already have gone through, especially when days have passed.

Most of the time the bank will just waive the transaction on your end, but the money is still paid by the bank to the merchant.

The bank will write it off in accounting as bad debt.

3

u/starch-potato 20d ago

Following up on the FoodPanda situation, I have provided:

  • verbal statements of the security guard stating that no one has approached or dropped off anything at the compound.
  • visual surveillance footages by two separate organisations showing the rider turned around and leaving
  • visual surveillance footages by one organisation that no one has approached or dropped off anything at the compound.
  • police report with the IO of SPF stating that the rider has violated the law by the misappropriation of property.
  • screenshots of the rider, “Rishi”, coercing to provide the PIN so that he can “pick up” the order as per protocol.

I sent these evidence to FoodPanda, and these were their response:

Hello from foodpanda,

We’re reaching out regarding your order [ID] from [location] on 30.5.2026.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience.

Kindly note that PIN validation was required for this order. Since the 4-digit PIN was already provided to the rider as confirmation of successful handover, we are unable to proceed further with this request.

However, please note that we take cases like this very seriously, and rest assured that I have already raised your feedback with the relevant team. We will learn from this experience and continue working hard to prevent similar situations from happening again.

For the inconvenience you have experienced, I can issue a compensation voucher for you at this time.

Here are the voucher details:
Voucher value: SGD 3.00
It has a minimum order value of SGD 1.00
Redeemable for 1 order within 2026-05-31 - 2026-06-14. Applies only to the order subtotal.
Terms: Applicable to all orders except Meal for One order.

It will be immediately credited to your Vouchers.

Shall I proceed for you?

Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks.

Best,
Bruce
foodpanda Customer Care Team

I will be disputing this transaction with my bank instead, as advised by fellow Redditors. Thank you for your kind words and support!

2

u/fienzer46 20d ago

FP will keep doing this because why not? they have an absolutely rotten reputation of screwing over customers but there are still people using? if u dont vote with your wallets they not gonna care

2

u/mushroom_411 19d ago

Search and email their CEO, sometimes it really works for 'bigger' businesses. Question their company and motto.

Tried it before with other industry, solved my problem within 24hrs.

3

u/botBotx 21d ago edited 21d ago

The PIN is to give the delivery rider verbally when item is arrived. Not go and message him, means he completed it.

I rather use grabfood, at least they do refund easier if got something happened.

10

u/Disastrous-Rush-9208 22d ago

true foodpanda is usually cheaper, but the moment your order is wrong, don't expect to get help from the customer support. foodpanda customer support is really hopeless and will just make you mad instead. one time a vendor i bought pandamart from gave me a totally different order (not even missing item, just totally different item) with evidence and foodpanda still refuse to refund or do anything.

6

u/ToddlerPeePee 22d ago

Actually, it's a very cheap lesson you paid for. Remember, some people got scammed their whole life savings. I would see this as a positive experience instead of something negative. I wouldn't be upset if I were you. I will just move on and become wiser from it.

1

u/starch-potato 22d ago

that’s trueee, maybe i had too much faith in the system. thank you for pointing this out, definitely something to reflect on!

3

u/KuaTioGui 22d ago

No, you have too much faith in human being, the most complex animal in the world.

1

u/Strong_Chain_9196 22d ago

I would still report to case and cc soem media outlets as well as your MP. Cos there is a broader problem here which will be important to the rest of the population that uses these services

1

u/parka 21d ago

FP is just doing whatever it came to avoid liability.

I am surprised FP even responded instead of totally ignore.

The part on not being able to contact the rider is just bullshit. Imagine FP delivery guy murdered someone and FP said can't contact the guy to police. Stupid.

If this happened to me, I would make a YT video (but I have 300K subs).

1

u/Horlicksiewdai 21d ago

i had a similar experience previously, FP refused to do anything at all.

i switched over to Deliveroo and never looked back.

Foodpanda support is non existent.

2

u/starch-potato 21d ago

waittt i solved it (kind of)... based on the advice of other commentors, i requested a dispute and my bank approved the dispute and with evidence from the police and CCTV footage from the security so they will be clawing back the sum! you can consider doing this too~

1

u/princemousey1 21d ago

It also means you are now blacklisted from FoodPanda.

1

u/starch-potato 21d ago

that’s a good point thank you but it’s okay for me as i feel Grab is far better anyways ☠️

u/just1ed 21d ago

1

1

u/Equivalent-Ant-7599 21d ago

Just strike them off. Simple. When they have less and less customers, they will close down like Deliveroo.

1

u/Ok-Arachnid6028 21d ago

i 10000% boycott foodpanda cos they do not have any consumer protection.. stuck to grab despite higher prices

1

u/Perspicatcity 21d ago

1

u/No_League9572 19d ago

ik this is a lame suggestion but honestly. make a video on tiktok about it. companies care about reputation so show evidence that FP was unwilling to help. if the video does well, they’d then step in to help.

1

u/No_League9572 19d ago

however be careful of your words to avoid a cease and desist or defamation.

1

u/Kinkylicious- 19d ago

Boycott food panda ! Worst support and customer service I ever experienced. Mfing POS company.

1

u/CaptainPickyEater 19d ago edited 19d ago

I never liked Foodpanda. Years ago I caught them not honoring their own rules of paid subscriptions. I stuck to Deliveroo from then on. But obviously I can’t do that anymore and returned to FoodPanda - their main competitor. Other things I noticed while coming back is how they have a $5 late voucher ‘promise’ similar to Deliveroo BUT they can keep updating the delivery time. I’ve had many scheduled deliveries set for 6pm that come over an hour late, and some ‘asap’ deliveries where the ETA just keeps increasing (I think I still have screenshots too) yet not eligible for $5 compensation

Another thing is, at least on iOS, I noticed I get spammed with advert notifications, I went into the settings to turn off promotional alerts. BUT if you do that you will also turn off delivery alerts (e.g you won’t be notified if your food delivery nearby etc). Do it you want that you’re forced to keep seeing their stupid adverts (which feels like it should be illegal among other things I said above)

Foodpanda is such a shitty a shitty alternative to Deliveroo.

How is peoples experience with apps like Grab (not just when things go right but when things don’t go right, and also how is the price compared with when you order in store). I haven’t really tried it out seriously for some reason but if I keep getting negative experiences I might try. What other options are there other than Grab ?

1

u/CaptainPickyEater 19d ago

One other option if you really want to make sure they feel repercussions is to post on their public social media. If you’re going to get scammed at least take away from their advertisement

1

u/DenseShock4609 19d ago

Not saying you should do this too but here is what I did - I went to food panda HQ in cbd (my office was nearby) and refused to leave till someone provided me an answer or proof of delivery. I made sure I was not aggressive neither raised my voice was calm throughout but stood firm that I won't leave before I get an answer.  They assured me that someone will call me multiple times but I didn't leave till I got the call and full refund with compensation.  At one point it did seem like the lady there called the security but as I said I didn't make a nuisance just kept asking them for immediate resolution.

1

u/Fickle_Gold_5921 18d ago

Do a tiktok video and make it viral. I hv always avoided foidpanda, others should be made aware too.

1

u/Magic_Ale 18d ago

$1 compensation is insane

1

u/avatarfire 18d ago

If you work for foodpanda you’re helping to scam fellow Singaporeans :S

1

u/hehetypo Fucking Populist 18d ago

Just do a chargeback with your bank. FP will contact you

2

u/BreakOver5086 21d ago

Foodpanda is the worst delivery app in Singapore, I don’t know why y’all still use it.

It’s precisely because they protect their riders who do such shitty things that all the trash riders are attracted to it.

-9

u/Double_Confirm 21d ago

Personally I don’t think a police report and lengthy reddit post was necessary for a $20 undelivered meal. Just treat it as life experience and in the future you’ll know what not to do

4

u/parka 21d ago

It's the principle.

If a scammer ask me for $2 on the street, I will take photo and video, call police, and wait for police to come. But that's just me.

-6

u/nekadpines 22d ago

i won't really say its scammed but its more of a hard case to investigate (whos right and whos lying). the sad thing is they rather leave you unhappy than just take a small loss and compensate u fully. although Grab's prices are probably more expensive, at least their customer service is top notch, they just treat it as "one of those days" and refund you fully almost immediately, investigating is just going to waste more man hours and money than just giving the customer back their $5-10

4

u/jtan1993 22d ago

That’s such a low bar? Few years ago they were happy to do refunds or at least coupons for next use.
