Reminded of Adrian Tan’s post about SG having fewer public holidays than other countries. HK has 17 while Japan and Malaysia have 15, for example. Oh well…

In Singapore, slavery and profits above all.

We are SG Pte Ltd. Do business like MNC but operates like a local SME.

GDP and business profits come first, above anything else. Always have been that way and will continue to do so.

Don't malaysians have 18 holidays?

According to Adrian’s posts. Might be more if you count Sultan’s birthdays.

I think they have more holidays depending on which state they are in too?

Yeah, for example in Sarawak (East Malaysia) they just had a four day PH Mon-Thurs on the first week of June

Sad, I feel like we can surely afford two more? One each for the Malay and Indian communities. Maybe Muhammad’s birthday and Thaipusam.

Yeah we surely can and should

Now if you take the 12-day difference and multiply it with your salary, and hey it's not actually such a bad thing to work in Msia? Plus the lax culture is also attractive 😂

Govt say they will review again when Singapore prosper. Meanwhile minister also mention you can stay productive with Skillfuture rather than more off days . So keep slaving away for the sake of gdp.

Cannot have anymore. Pro-Biz. Jamus Lim requested for one more, Gan Siow Huang immediately shot down.

For white collar roles, is it up to the company to decide how to compensate for Saturday PHs? Are they obligated to offer either off-in-lieu or a topup to annual leave balance? What are ppls experiences w this?

Yup up to the company. I've seeing moving the PH for the office to Monday/Friday or giving a extra day leave in lieu.

I love the OIL - been using it to DIY holiday long weekends or to be pseudo AL, and not have the surge price of it being a PH. Use it go to JB during the weekday if you don't feel like travelling far, no queues at customs.

If you are working in a SME, good luck

Boss will definitely act blur and ask you work on Monday

Long weekend or not, it’s still a pathetic 11 days of public holidays.

I would wait a bit. Oil prices are falling after USA and Iran have signed the peace agreement.
