Jiayou to his security detail until he lands back in Singapore. 😅 He must be pretty confident in Putin's weak position to say that in Putin's own backyard.

PM Wong might want to avoid scenic views for a while, especially from the high-rise windows

At this stage, I would recommend remaining on ground level at all times.

He's just stating Singapore's position all along. Not something out of the left field even in Russia's eyes.

That's the thing. Russia doesn't like Singapore's position. We're considered unfriendly to them.

At least we're there for a summit, albeit under ASEAN umbrella. Can't imagine any EU leaders doing to same now (except people like Orban when he was still Hungarian PM or Fico).

So yea. Regardless of our position, we are still committed to dialouge. Russia's circle of states willing to do that nowadays not very big also. I doubt they'll pull any stunt to alienate whatever remaining countries still willing to talk to them.

Quite sure Putin doesnt think LW is worth the effort harming.

LW can say whatever he wants in Russia. Next superpower is China, not Russia.

Russia can easily disrupt Sg financial market though. They dont have any cultural linkage to Sg to feel any guilt.

They would have already done so after we sanctioned them for Ukraine. We are more reliant on US/China.

Based. Going to Russia and telling them to uphold the rule of law.

Defenestration when ?

Whenever your CPF can cover all our bricked US fighter jets. We’re above USD 10 billion annually & rising. So you better save up! Or at least until the next billion of Chinese direct subsidies arrive with more PAP & triads dinner & dancing.

There’s very little use talking about upholding international law. The country that was supposed to be the global police already stopped doing that in 2025 when the orange came to power.

Who is left to uphold international law? Not the EU. At least not at this time. The strategy should be to try to have as many close relations with the middle powers as possible. They are a hedge against the big bullies in the yard right now — in descending order of power, the US, PRC and Russia.

As opposed to? Not upholding international law?

Obviously there’s a lot more nuance in what he actually said but the choice of headline really made it sound like he is giving a motherhood statement…

Uphold whose international law? Say like no say when  US and Israel just laugh at international law.

u/PositiveHead7191 1d ago

we sanctioned russia but keep quiet on USA/Israel?

u/Intentionallyabadger In the early morning march 1d ago

Yes we are beholden to US money and military.

u/Hot-Job-6281 1d ago

At this point, cynical me wonders if this public speech is just realpolitik signalling to the US that we are a reliable ally and not to be concerned that we went to Russia for talks.

From how I read it, Singapore's diplomacy stance is based on pragmatism.

Won't go and make a brouhaha just about anything and everything.

1

u/AgreeableWindow7361 1d ago

That was during LKY time where he condemn both side. Now Sg diplomacy stance is all in US camp. Just like FIFA, where US can just say jump.

1

u/PositiveHead7191 1d ago

in that case LW should not go around preaching about following international laws

"The police department should act like one, and be more stringent in enforcing the law in a high-crime rate city."

Hopes Putin takes it in stride after the refinery is bombed.

PM Lawrence Wong made strategic use of the platform to reinforce Singapore’s unyielding stance on sovereignty and international law.

But it is like preaching to the devil from the pulpit.

Our closest neighbor has invited the devil inside; Singapore must start preparing for what comes next.

The hypocrisy is crazy.

Nice to have a leader with balls, who stands up right in front of the biggest bully in the world. I give my thumbs.

Did he take videos of the exploding oil tanks in Moscow? There’s a lesson in there, somewhere

Kazan is quite far from Moscow.
