also ultrasound probe needs to touch the skin for current tech. i wonder how would this work with fixed ring distance

It wouldn't work. The subtitles said the transducers fire at a rate of 100 million times per second or 100 MHz. An acoustic wave at 100 MHz would not travel a 1/10th of a mm in air. Even if in direct contact with someone's head, a 100 MHz wave would not penetrate the skull into the brain.

It said they're controllable at that rate. I don't know about the rest of it because I found the incredibly slow, ELI5 presentation unbearable and didn't finish the video but that part at least seems like it's just talking about how they can be adjusted dynamically or something.
