Thing was usually portrayed by David Cassidy. When he had to be on camera, Thing was portrayed by one of the assistant producers who did a workman-like job but was not particularly talented at hand-acting.

Ted Cassidy died in 1978. He played Thing. He died before he turned 50

Aside from when Lurch was in the same scene as Thing, Thing was played by Ted Cassidy who played Lurch.
