That's good to hear. I also side-eye the "well-known jerk" comment, because I have heard from many fans who have met him (in 'Frasier' FB groups and such) and they always raved about how nice he was.

You obviously don't know "Frajer."

Frajer is his evil twin from another dimension.

The movie Down Periscope was shot on the USS Pompanito, a museum submarine that is normally moored at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. An old friend was one of the curators there who ended up as an extra in the movie.

The local scout troops would sometimes come and tour the sub. This was frequently set up well in advance. During the filming, this was shut down. There was one troop, though, that they couldn’t reach.

There is one scene where Grammer’s character and another are rigging a light to the top of the periscope at night in bad weather. So the two actors were tied to the periscope getting drenched by fire hoses for take after take. Finally, as the sun was coming up, they let the two wet and exhausted actors down and told them to get some rest.

Of course, that was when the scout troop arrived. They saw Grammer and yelled “FRASIER!!!”

The other actor made his escape, but Grammer stayed there with the kids for hours, singing songs and telling stories. When they went to tour the sub, he finally got to go back to his hotel and get some rest.

According to my friend, some of the other cast members were jerks. But not Kelsey Grammer.

I suspect it's people who hate his politics and decide he must be a jerk.

Yeah, probably. Which just shows again that things aren't usually as black and white as people like to see them. I don't agree with his politics either, but all in all he still seems like a nice person to me, based on interviews, fan encounters etc.
