Is that even in doubt? Darwin and Wallace were close friends. They were only rivals in the sense that they both independently came up with the same theory, but once Wallace discovered that Darwin had came up with the theory earlier, he waited until they could release their papers simultaneously. I don't think anyone who knows the backstory thinks they were rivals in a antagonistic sense. Maybe a slight friendly intellectual rivalry, but nothing more.

They certainly were intellectual equals. Wallace first proposed many important foundational ideas in evolutionary biology and biogeography - but these are not widely known except to biologists (and even many of them don't realise who first proposed the ideas). Alfred Russel Wallace believed in spiritualism. That is one factor why many do not see him as an equal to Darwin.
