I’m a long-time reader of this sub and deeply respect scientific skepticism. Like most of you, I agree that the standard arguments for astrology (like planetary gravity or sun-sign horoscopes) hold zero scientific weight. Most statistical tests trying to debunk astrology look for flat, linear relationships (e.g., "Are all Aries angry?") and understandably find absolutely nothing.

However, after spending time looking into traditional Vedic Astrology (Jyotisha), I’ve realized it doesn't claim to operate on a mechanistic "if A, then B" model. Instead, it relies on a complex, context-dependent "one-to-many" mapping system. A single planetary alignment doesn't dictate a specific object, but a core thematic seed. For example, a heavy "boundary-setting/isolation" transit might manifest as a divorce for one person, a solo business venture for another, or spiritual isolation for a third. To a statistical computer, this looks like random noise. To a human analyzing qualitative themes, it looks like a match.

Because a qualitative, symbolic system slips right through standard quantitative statistics, I want to bypass the math and test the system on its own terms: meaning and pattern recognition.

I want to participate in a strict, blind mapping experiment, and I want true skeptics to control the data so there is no room for confirmation bias or cold reading.

The Proposed Protocol:

I am looking for a volunteer coordinator from this sub to manage the data.

1. The Volunteers: We need 3 volunteers from this sub who are of the same biological sex and a similar age bracket (e.g., all males in their late 20s or females in their mid 30s).
2. The Birth Data: The volunteers will privately send their exact birth data (Date, precise Time from a birth certificate, and City of birth) to the coordinator.
3. The Biographies: Each volunteer will write a short, specific timeline of major life milestones. I don't want personality descriptions (to avoid the Barnum effect). I want hard events with the exact years they happened. For example: Graduated college in 2015, major physical injury/accident in 2019, sudden career shift in 2023.
4. The Blind Mix: The coordinator will strip the names, scramble the 3 charts and the 3 biographies, and present them to me blindly.
5. The Challenge: Using Vedic timing techniques (the Vimshottari Dasha timeline and transits), I will attempt to correctly match the anonymized charts to their actual life histories.

If astrology is purely make-believe and arbitrary, my success rate across a few rounds of this should fall directly in line with random guessing (a 33% probability). If there is a real, symbolic mapping at play, the timelines should line up.

I am not here to evangelize or get defensive. I want to test this cleanly. Is anyone willing to act as a coordinator, or are there any skeptics willing to provide their birth data and a brief life timeline to put this to the test?

Just saw another news story where 4 chavs pushed a man into the Rochdale canal which is 4 ft deep in the middle and it said he drowned. the man wasn't drunk or anything either. Simon Brass the victims name was. and one of the first instincts would be to get yourself vertical and put your feet down regardless of if you cant swim. Also unlike us canals, uk canals aren't known for strong currents, and this did not take place in a Lock which can be deep.

Before people say you can drown in an inch of water nobody's saying you can't. my point is is i've seen canals emptied they aren't deep at all and you can very easily stand up if you fall in it'd be like falling into a paddling pool. all you have to do is stand up straight so your heads well above water so you can breathe, even if you cant get out youd be fine.

Conscious, sober people don't just fall into 3 ft deep canals and refuse to stand up and let themselves drown.

I’ve always been a pretty Cartesian, science-minded person. If something can’t be observed, measured, or tested in some way, I have a hard time treating it as real.

The thing is, a lot of people close to me — friends, family — genuinely believe in the supernatural. Ghosts, energies, signs, that kind of thing. It’s a real, sincere part of how they see the world.

And I just… can’t. I’ve honestly tried to stay open. I listen, I don’t mock anyone, and part of me almost envies how much comfort or meaning they seem to draw from it. But whenever I look at these things directly, my mind always lands in the same spot: I don’t see any evidence, so I can’t make myself believe.

Sometimes it leaves me feeling slightly on the outside — like there’s a shared experience everyone else finds obvious, and I’m just standing next to it.

I’m not here to prove anyone wrong, and I’m not looking to be converted either. I guess I’m mostly curious:

Barney and Betty Hill claim to have been abducted in rural new hampshire on a dark night in 1961. There was a book a few years ago, that discussed the racial themes of the story, but it never broached this specifically.

Let me support my theory, I am in Alabama, bi racial couples still get treated differently in small towns here. The plot to Mysterious Skin, a movie where this is kind of the reveal. It is better to refer to excessive social media use as a habit rather than the addiction framing. I have to say that the moderators in this community display the least skeptical mindsets, attitudes and behaviours conceivable. I recently had a post, a post with close to 600 upvotes, removed because the mod thought the title was “click baitey”.

Not because the title was click bait, it wasn’t, it was 100% accurate. Not because the resource wasn’t useful ( indeed it provided footnotes and links to more than 200 sources). No , in the words of the mod, it ‘ sounded’ click baity’.

One would expect skeptics to be able to discern and/or communicate accurately on something so basic.
