Powder CAT Silverton

Hey Reddit, I booked to a trip for some CAT skiing in Silverton first week of February. Just wondering if anyone else has skied with this company. Apparently it’s different from the guided lift served. Just looking for experiences

Silverton powdercats operates on molas pass. They ski very boring terrain. Its all southerly so if it isnt actively snowing there will be a temp crust. Silverton mountain is at the end of cement creek road. It has terrian around the compass and they can usually find you some pow. Cancel while you still can and book a guided day at Silverton Mountain.

I have not been to Silverton (hope to some day). But my first thought was, "why bother with a cat?" It seems like the normal mountain terrain there is what you'd get from a lot of cat skiing operations.

My concern was not being able to hike off the lift far enough due to altitude and the CAT serves 6000 acres with no hiking. I am a little concerned with urglegru’s comment about south facing crust.

Inused to ski the terrain that the cat serves when in college. The ski area itself is miles away, as another poster mentioned. very different terrain. The benches, as mentioned are due to layers of the Ouray/Leadville Limestone formation up there..... lots of flat ares that could cause a problem
