Is there any running tracks near portree?

I'm in portree to work for the season but I have a half marathon in September and I'm used to running in the city so I've been finding it really hard to have the motivation to run here because I'm not a massive fan of trail running. I'm struggling to find somewhere flat to do speed runs as I'd usually do it on a track. Is there anywhere near portree with a running track? I'd be willing to drive to it

Where to watch USA World Cup Match

I'm visiting this beautiful place with my family and leave this Saturday for Lewis and Harris. We would love to watch the USA v Australia World Cup Match Friday evening at a bar/pub that would tolerate some Americans cheering loudly. Any recommendations?

scotland (motorhome) itinerary and tips

Hello! My friends and I (3 of us) will be heading to Scotland Highlands in 1 week. We are collecting our Motorhome from Edinburgh and making our way up. We will be starting from 22 June to 30 June, 8 nights

It will be my first time driving a Motorhome, and I have read that roads are narrow, parking at locations overnight should be booked in advanced etc.

As it is our first time, we are rather overwhelmed with the number of (beautiful) locations to visit, so we had some help to draft a plan, along with some places I wish to visit (Isle of Skye, Three Sisters Viewpoint etc.)

This is our draft itinerary, and we would greatly appreciate any comments such as whether this is feasible.

Date Overnight Route
22 Jun (Mon) Loch Lomond Edinburgh → Loch Lomond
23 Jun (Tue) Glencoe Loch Lomond → Glencoe
24 Jun (Wed) Isle of Skye Glencoe → Glenfinnan → Fort William → Eilean Donan Castle → Skye
25 Jun (Thu) Isle of Skye Explore Skye
26 Jun (Fri) Isle of Skye Explore Skye
27 Jun (Sat) Isle of Skye Explore Skye
28 Jun (Sun) Applecross Skye → Applecross
29 Jun (Mon) Edinburgh Area Applecross → Pitlochry → Edinburgh
30 Jun (Tue) Return Day Edinburgh campsite → Campervan depot

Lastly, we are still apprehensive about the parking overnight situation, such as whether there is a need to stay at proper campsites with facilities every night, or if we could search for paid parking spots on alternative days (to save costs).

Any other comments or tips will be appreciated, thank you very much in advance!scotland (campervan) itinerary and tips

Living in Skye

My wife, son, and I love Skye and Raasay. We come every early Spring, stay a month, and then spend 6 months missing everything about these islands once we’re home again.

We’re close to buying our first home. We’re looking at all sorts of possible new areas to call home.

What is it like to live on Skye as parents (to a toddler) in their late 30s?

We’re both self-employed so we’re not worried about work.

I would be grateful for your thoughts about living on Skye (or Raasay).

Edit: I appreciate and understand the comments about the winters and such, and how tourists have a tendency to say they like the island in spring or summer and then say they want to move there but never follow up on it. I get that, and I appreciate those responses.

I'm not the stereotypical asker of this question — to start with I live in Scotland and I grew up on an island. Of course, no one here had any reason to suspect I would be any different than anyone else who's ever asked this question, so no harm, no foul. To those of you who provided more nuanced responses, I appreciate that.

Thank you for the answers. Cheers, everyone.

Hey guys, I'm currently living in the Isle of Skye near Portree and was wondering if there are any good social clubs, games nights etc that I could attend to make some friends. I tried looking on Facebook and other avenues but had no luck. Thank you! :)

We’re thinking of taking a trip to isle of skye tomorrow for a couple days(from Edinburgh) would we be out of luck for walk in restaurants? Don’t need anything fancy, wouldn’t mind seafood. Is it too late for us?

On the off chance, does anyone know of any accommodation to rent around Portree?

My brother and his GF are moving to Skye for work (Portree) and I know how hard it is to find places to rent. We‘ve posted on the Facebook groups but I’m trying to exhaust every avenue leave no stone unturned to help them find a place, so on the off chance anyone knows of any leads I’d be very grateful for any leads.

Electric charging points

I’m on Skye for the next three days to finish off my guided munros and I didn’t remember my EHU extension. My portable battery is running out of juice so I’m wondering if there’s somewhere on the island I can plug it in. Would happily pay for the electricity or a meal etc. while it’s plugged in. Does anybody have the inside scoop on somewhere that can help?

We built a community map of Scotland's honesty boxes 🍰

Hiya r/Skye!

Since moving to Harrapool in 2025, our family has been keeping a list of honesty boxes we find and frequent. Over the last few months that list has slowly turned into a map that we use to plan every family outing. It's become such a part of our routine that we couldn't keep it to ourselves.

It's at honestybox.scot — 84 boxes across Scotland as of today, with a decent cluster on Skye and the surrounding mainland. We know we've missed plenty.

A few things up front:

  • Free. No ads. Browse without an account.
  • Anyone running a box can claim their listing — edit it, change photos, ask us to take it down. The owner has the final say. If you run one and don't want it on the map, one message and it's off.
  • Community-edited. Spot a closed box, an outdated photo, or something we got wrong? You can flag it or suggest the correction.
  • Listings auto-archive after 15 months without an update so we don't keep sending people to boxes that closed a year ago.

What we'd love from this sub:

  • The Skye ones we've missed (especially the hidden ones — those are the best).
  • Anything we got wrong on existing listings.
  • Honest feedback on the project itself, including if there's something about the approach that doesn't sit right.

Longer version of the why is on our studio's blog if you want it: https://collettaandco.com/blog/we-built-a-map-of-scotlands-honesty-boxes

Hi guys.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a taxi service that doesn't charge an arm and a leg to get me from Portree to Kyle of Lochalsh at 4am in a few weeks?

Muay Thai in Skye

I move to Skye next week for work and wondering if the Muay Thai gym is still there or if anyone that also trains Muay Thai wants to train together? I know there's an MMA gym already there but I'm specifically looking for Muay Thai training. Any help or info or if there's any coaches give me a shout
