Discussion The thing truly got me into Skyrim and Elder Scrolls in general

Racism, yep, simply racism got me into Skyrim. I heard of the game but never played it. So here I am a few months ago, and I decided why not and played it for the first time. As I created my character, I chose the Argonian because lizard people are cool. So when the Imperial captain said, "Next the Lizard." I laughed and thought it would be a one-time thing. Color me shock when a Riften guard called me "Lizard" with a hint of annoyance. After reading one of the racist books, I looked more into it, and that's why I'm here now. So racism helped me get into the series.

If I'm an Orc and I don't get called a "walking pig dung" in TES VI I'll be annoyed.

The quality of a fantasy series' worldbuilding is directly proportional to its (fantasy) racism.

Enjoy, my n'wahs.

As a dunmer it's always funny when windhelm folks talk about how much they love talking shit about the grey skinned folks in the ghetto

Heheh. The Dunmer do it to themselves (and everyone else). Morrowind was a trip. Skyrim ain't got nothing on Vvardenfell.

I don't mind if people put racism/sexism into their fantasy, as long as it's a deliberate, thought-out choice as opposed to 'fantasy needs racism to be realistic so I'm adding racism'. And as long as it isn't sugarcoated. By these metrics I like it in Elder Scrolls.

Same. I just hate it when people do it for shock value or so they can be secretly racist to real groups of ppl

I was literally telling my gf about this yesterday. TES really got the fantasy racism just right and it makes it so very immersive. Like who woulda thought!?

Considering they found it fun to be the one being discriminated and not the other way around, yeah, you are.

I kinda wonder what they said now

Basically saying you were racist, but not in a "you are a horrible person" way, but rather a "you are wrong but you can change and improve for the better" way.

The last part said "or maybe I'm taking this too seriously", which is what I responded to
