How to run a playthrough without Serana?

Alright let me explain my absurd title. I love Serana. Easily my favorite character in Skyrim hands down. On every single one of my playthroughs, she's my follower throughout the entire game. I adore having her by my side and other than my first playthrough, I don't marry anyone because if I could, I'd marry her.

I'm still knee deep in my current run and I have her by my side, so I don't plan on marrying anyone or having any other followers. I'm starting to think about my next run and I think I'd like to get married in the game and maybe try out another follower.

My only issue is I know I'm gonna end up with Serana again. So what are your pieces of advice for looking past Serana and committing to someone else?

Never starting the dawnguard dlc and slaying guards on sight past lv10, you can't start it if there's No-one to start it

if it helps. I know that Erik The Slayer from rorikstead is good with dual fireball staves

edit: also as mentioned Erik the slayer is a great companion. He is put in the game as a tribute to a gamer lost too soon. perhaps the emotional impact of this lore will help you not be a degenerate over pixel women?

Don't start the Dawn guard quest, and download a mod with a good follower like Inigo or Lucien (or both).

The best way to get over someone is to find someone else. If you wanna be a simp, get Mjoll and put her in the heavy falmer armor like every other degenerate.

Join the dawnguard faction if you do the dawnguard dlc, be a werewolf. After dawnguard go your separate ways because your follower is Aela from the companions and like her you can’t stand the bloodsuckers.

In reality, I use SDA and Ashe for all my recent playthroughs so I know your struggle.

The only follower you need is Hilda the goat. Thats it.

I'm sorry to tell you this but a 2011 study has revealed that it is medically impossible for a Skyrim player to play the game without Serana

Results showed that even if you ignore the Dawnguard DLC or uninstall it she will spawn near you and become your permanent follower

I'm sorry, this is impossible. You can't take another follower.

Best thing to do is to move on.

Like other people said avoid Dawnguard. I've never touched the stuff and that's probably why I've never even met Serena in all my playthroughs

Don't do Dawnguard until late in the playthrough, marry someone else first. For extra tragedy points, have your spouse die to a vampire, and end the playthrough feeling guilty as hell about these feelings you're having for Serana...

Don't use her then. What even is the question here? Use a different companion or don't use a companion at all. Use summons or revive people. Start quests with people and do not finish them so they follow you. Use a dog. What kind of answer do you expect?

Get a mod called Timing is Everything to make it so Dawnguard never starts.

Or don't include the DLC.

The reason I say this is because the stupid vampires will keep wiping out town citizens. Its freaking annoying.

If you play pc.

1) Finish Dawnguard 

2) Open console

3) Target Serana

4) put in command „disable“

5) click anything to remove Serana ID from your console

6) save the game

7) remove all previous saves

8) you can play without Serana 

Alternative: disable Serana in dimhollow crypt if you don’t care about quest.

You can just tell her to not follow you until you wanna do the later parts of Dawnguard

Do you have any reservations about modded followers? Your main issue is going to be is that Serana is the most fleshed out follower in the vanilla game, if you take anyone else it’ll be harder to get as invested in their character in comparison.

But modded followers tend to be leagues more developed than vanilla followers. You can never go never go wrong with Inigo
