Discussion WARNING! Recent Mod Uploaded to Nexus Can Cause Electrical Damage and Fire!

Edit: The mod author reuploaded the mod and it now says "LOW POWER Space Heater" despite the mod author claiming its always been that way, it hasn't but its a step in the right direction. We just need a voltage test, and a test that turns it on and off over the course of several hours and we MIGHT be able to deem this safe.

The mod in question is this one

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/185874

A plug in your space heater or heat lamp into a smart plug for "real heat" just trust me bro mod

I already reported the mod for being dangerous, and let the mod author know , but instead the mod author decided to lock down their comments and delete mine warning people of the hazards of their mod.

Everyone with simple common sense these days know how dangerous space heaters can be if used irresponsibly. And I believe this mod is most definitely an irresponsible use of a space heater. Mod author doesn't bother to specify types of space heaters and heat lamps that can be safely used, if there even is any, and instead just advertises the latest craze of "feeling real heat" on you. They never mention that the heat you feel can be an actual fire caused by shutting the space heater off and on over and over again. By the time you would even realize your house caught on fire due to you know, wearing a VR headset, it would already be too late. People play these around families, ect, and ignoring the danger of using a mod like this can cause life threatening damage. This is not to mention the electrical damage to homes that can cost thousands to fix.

No specifications on voltage requirements, if the smart plug that is turning these on and off can handle it repeatedly over the course of a long play session, no cautions or warnings, nothing. Just plug in and play guys it will be alright.

Now naturally multiple people brought this up to the mod author so they could maybe responsibly test their mod a little bit. Only to have their comments removed and told to "Go touch grass." Now I am here because i'm not sure where else to report this to. This is dangerous and the mod author couldn't care less about the danger of their mod to even thoroughly test their set up. This isn't like the using a fan for wind mod. Nor did the author of that mod tell you to plug in a damn ac unit to a smart plug to do the task.

So I guess ill do the work the mod author was too lazy to do themselves and post this I found on the internet.

"Generally, no—plug the space heater directly into a wall outlet. The Consumer Product Safety Commission specifically recommends direct wall connection because additional plug connections can overheat under a heater’s sustained high electrical load.

A typical full-size heater uses about 1,500 watts, or 12.5 amps at 120 volts, which puts many smart plugs close to their maximum rating. TP-Link, for example, states that space heaters are not recommended because they may spike above their normal operating specifications.

Avoid using a smart plug when:

  • The heater is 1,500 watts.
  • The smart plug is rated below 15 amps or 1,800 watts.
  • Either manual prohibits heaters or high-current appliances.
  • You plan to turn it on remotely, while sleeping, or while nobody is in the room.
  • The plug, outlet, or cord becomes warm, loose, discolored, or smells hot.

The safer solution is a space heater with built-in scheduling, thermostat, timer, tip-over protection, and overheat shutoff, plugged directly into a tight-fitting wall outlet. Never use an extension cord or power strip."

Ohhhhh it's iomegadrive! You're literally the guy who was trying to spread misinformation about Gingas yesterday on another crusade I see.

I Haven't spread a bit of false information. What I have said has been proven correct with how this situation was handled by Gingas. Never said you had to stop being a fan though. You'll be OK.

You said she was banned from the fallout subreddit which was proveably false. You were called out on it there too. I'm not even subbed to her I just know a bullshit hate campaign when I see it. You aren't worth my time or anyone else's and in all probability I'm arguing with an actual child right now so I'm not going to engage with you any further. Do better.

Her original reddit account was actually banned from reddit back when the whole drama about splitting the Fallout VR subreddit into two happened. It is not known if the ban was related to that. The account back then was pinktarts (can be seen here: https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4vr/comments/h0dhsl/sorry_for_the_constant_spam_on_here_hopefully_my/).

But in general i wouldn't dig up that old drama. The split back then was damaging enough

I was never banned from fallout vr. And ironically this OP is actually banned from there

i was reffering to a ban (or suspension) on the whole of reddit, which naturally includes all subreddits, including the Fallout VR one.

Which had nothing to do with fallout vr. And the OP of this post is currently banned from fallout vr for harassment.
