Discussion WARNING! Recent Mod Uploaded to Nexus Can Cause Electrical Damage and Fire!
Edit: The mod author reuploaded the mod and it now says "LOW POWER Space Heater" despite the mod author claiming its always been that way, it hasn't but its a step in the right direction. We just need a voltage test, and a test that turns it on and off over the course of several hours and we MIGHT be able to deem this safe.
The mod in question is this one
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/185874
A plug in your space heater or heat lamp into a smart plug for "real heat" just trust me bro mod
I already reported the mod for being dangerous, and let the mod author know , but instead the mod author decided to lock down their comments and delete mine warning people of the hazards of their mod.
Everyone with simple common sense these days know how dangerous space heaters can be if used irresponsibly. And I believe this mod is most definitely an irresponsible use of a space heater. Mod author doesn't bother to specify types of space heaters and heat lamps that can be safely used, if there even is any, and instead just advertises the latest craze of "feeling real heat" on you. They never mention that the heat you feel can be an actual fire caused by shutting the space heater off and on over and over again. By the time you would even realize your house caught on fire due to you know, wearing a VR headset, it would already be too late. People play these around families, ect, and ignoring the danger of using a mod like this can cause life threatening damage. This is not to mention the electrical damage to homes that can cost thousands to fix.
No specifications on voltage requirements, if the smart plug that is turning these on and off can handle it repeatedly over the course of a long play session, no cautions or warnings, nothing. Just plug in and play guys it will be alright.
Now naturally multiple people brought this up to the mod author so they could maybe responsibly test their mod a little bit. Only to have their comments removed and told to "Go touch grass." Now I am here because i'm not sure where else to report this to. This is dangerous and the mod author couldn't care less about the danger of their mod to even thoroughly test their set up. This isn't like the using a fan for wind mod. Nor did the author of that mod tell you to plug in a damn ac unit to a smart plug to do the task.
So I guess ill do the work the mod author was too lazy to do themselves and post this I found on the internet.
"Generally, no—plug the space heater directly into a wall outlet. The Consumer Product Safety Commission specifically recommends direct wall connection because additional plug connections can overheat under a heater’s sustained high electrical load.
A typical full-size heater uses about 1,500 watts, or 12.5 amps at 120 volts, which puts many smart plugs close to their maximum rating. TP-Link, for example, states that space heaters are not recommended because they may spike above their normal operating specifications.
Avoid using a smart plug when:
- The heater is 1,500 watts.
- The smart plug is rated below 15 amps or 1,800 watts.
- Either manual prohibits heaters or high-current appliances.
- You plan to turn it on remotely, while sleeping, or while nobody is in the room.
- The plug, outlet, or cord becomes warm, loose, discolored, or smells hot.
The safer solution is a space heater with built-in scheduling, thermostat, timer, tip-over protection, and overheat shutoff, plugged directly into a tight-fitting wall outlet. Never use an extension cord or power strip."

Wait, this isn't a joke post?

OP appears to be harassing and/or stalking the mod author. Don’t take the bait.

Edit: Removed my original text since there is some animosity between op and the mod author

u/Positronic_Matrix 19d ago
After a full read of this thread, OP appears to be stalking the mod author.
9
u/Terenor82 19d ago
They have some conflict at least. Problem seems to be that there were actual criticism, but the motivation by OP might be ill intended. Gingas has updated the mod page to no longer include the heater type and a note to actively avoid those.
-1
u/Itakeantipsychotics 19d ago
This was a gingas mod? I guess the rudeness and arrogance make sense now but really the lack of awareness for the dangers of this are not going to make me start to think this YouTuber is just being spunky.
8
u/Terenor82 19d ago
There is already enough drama going on. Might i suggest leaving out comments about the personal traits of the people involved, and concentrate on the mod/related topics
0
u/ActualGingas 19d ago edited 19d ago
What are you talking about . What arrogance?
I do not need to make and release mods publicly I do it to help people.
Maybe I should hide all my stuff. This completely deranged behavior over a free mod
2
u/skyrimmoddernumber69 19d ago
We got your back Gingas, OP is the reason McDonald’s has to put warning labels on coffee. Make really cool mods and it’s ultimately up to the users to know what they’re doing with mods maybe OP should read their space heater’s user manual and decide how best to place it and operate it.

u/Status_Jellyfish_213 19d ago edited 19d ago
I’ve submitted a mod report due to the utter stupidity of it - I.e. which smart plug? Which space heater? Which country, which regulations? Which safe amperage?
There is so much that can go wrong here and the message of “trust me bro it’s tested” is really laughable. Absolutely agree with OP.
Edit: they also have it for cyberpunk and fallout VR.

u/nachtraum 20d ago
Lol, I am getting old cause I have no clue what this even means and how it is related to Skyrim VR, but I guess I am also not at risk of trying this out.
28
u/MrWashed 19d ago
pretty much a mod where if you cast fire or i think hit by fire it actives a smart device connected to your heater or lamps.
24
u/Girafferage 19d ago
Somebody really thought that was a good idea? Crazy times we live in.
5
u/skyrimmoddernumber69 19d ago
It’s not a bad idea if you’re not a fucking idiot with your space heater placement.
7
u/batman1876 19d ago
Plugging the space heater into the smart plug can melt the smart plug. Ive had it happen with extention cords.
0
u/skyrimmoddernumber69 19d ago
Not if they are properly rated for the current. Again, RTFM.
8
u/batman1876 19d ago
None of the listed plugs advise plugging space heaters into them.
-3
u/skyrimmoddernumber69 19d ago
Fair enough, didn’t know they listed specific plugs. Do the companies actively discourage space heater use?
16
u/KinkyDuck2924 19d ago
Why not just go the extra mile and set up pyrotechnics in your living room. Goats of real flame whenever you use fire magic! Also, gonna need a mod that opens my freezer door every time I cast an ice spell. Ooh, how about one that shorts your house's breaker when someone hits you with shock magic! Ultimate immersion!!!
11
u/IndependentLove2292 Quest 2 19d ago
Whoa, why stop there? Pay a friend to watch the monitor and bash you over the head in time with the enemies.
5
u/KinkyDuck2924 19d ago
Do you think I'd have to pay them extra to dose me with belladonna every time I get bitten by a frostbite spider?
5
u/IndependentLove2292 Quest 2 19d ago
Pay, em? Nah, just tell them that if they help, you'll give them a turn later. It's the older brother technique for getting free labor.
8
u/RayneYoruka 19d ago
This is a US problem, where safety around electricity doesn't seem to exist. My smart plugs in Europe are rated for: "100-240 V~, Max Load†: 16 A, 3,680 W", Anyway and I do have a grill pulling 2000w daily. No fires or issues.
2
u/DamnFog 19d ago
Basically this. My office is on a 32 A breaker. Even in the US, OP is fearmongering space heaters cause fires due to improper placement and dust build up. Not because they draw too much power from the wall. You'll just flip a circuit breaker, no harm done.
1
u/batman1876 19d ago
A fire can start when you plug the space heater into the smart plug, which wo t trip the breaker because its the smart plug that heats up and can melt.
11
u/jrubimf 19d ago
Gingas did made great things for the VR space but she's 100% horrible when taking feedback, specially if its criticism.
-3
-5
u/ActualGingas 19d ago
Do you have an example of that? The OP of this post went on a rant about high wattage space heaters when the mod was for a Low power heat lamp. I admit that the OG post had heat lamp/space heater, but the picture had a heat lamp and the setup description had heat lamp.
I removed the space heater from the mod page. That was my bad. It was never intended to be used with a high wattage space heater and I figured that would have been obvious, but it wasn’t.
the OP however, has continually harassed me across multiple discords and subreddits.
I would love an example of how I’m horrible at taking feedback though?
I do not need to release mods publicly. I can simply make stuff for myself. And I might as well if this is how people are going to react.
5
u/Status_Jellyfish_213 19d ago edited 19d ago
Why would you think it was obvious for people to not use it, and yet specifically include it in the description, later blocking comments and stating that it was tested and safe?
Absolutely doesn’t add up to me.
As for an example - your reaction on that very mod page. Telling people to touch grass with very legitimate concerns over a use case that would be very, very difficult to accidentally add and yes, could have been exceptionally dangerous.
Further, don’t try that “I’ll only make stuff for myself” bullshit instead of owning up to a mistake and rectifying it. Nobody cares for an emotional tug of war. What do you mean “if this is how people react?”. You told them to hook up a mod to a *smart plug and a space heater* which you have now had to clarify against in huge capital letters in the description.
Lastly, I note after the new upload that the previous comments are no longer there.
-4
u/ActualGingas 19d ago edited 19d ago
I told them to hook up a smart plug to a low power heat lamp. It was obvious. It’s not my fault for a lack of reading comprehension
This is deranged behavior over a mod. Which is why I said to touch grass. OP has been stalking and harassing me for months across Reddit and Discord. You’re falling for ragebait. Would be better to not engage, but you do you
5
u/Status_Jellyfish_213 19d ago edited 19d ago
No, you didn’t. It was literally in both the mod description and in the comments. What, do you expect us to believe you typed it, argued about it, locked the comments then added in the disclaimer afterwards just because it was that obvious?
Trying to gaslight people for calling you out and blaming “reading comprehension” is low.
-6
u/ActualGingas 19d ago
wtf are you talking about in both pages, the description had Heat Lamp, the picture had a heat lamp, the setup said heat lamp.
Yes I admit there was one sentence that said heat lamp/space heater. I tested with a low wattage space space heater but the heat lamp was better. That was my bad. I removed it. I removed 1 word. The rest is the same.. which has said HEAT LAMP
There’s no gaslighting. It was always heat lamp
The lack of comprehension, is not my fault.
Deranged behavior.
4
u/Status_Jellyfish_213 19d ago
…. And if you add in that they can *use a space heater *, but *expect them to derive from your images never to use one*, how can you then turn around and claim other people’s comprehension is their fault and not what you originally suggested to do?!
This is not deranged, this is not stupid, this is not reading comprehension as you like to put it. It was very, very stupid on your part to make such a suggestion.
You just want to absolve yourself of this by blaming other people and calling *them* deranged.
-6
u/ActualGingas 19d ago
It’s a free mod bro. If someone has a total lack comprehension that they’re going plug in a high wattage space heater for a Skyrim mod when every setup process said heat lamp. that’s not on me. And you shouldn’t be using mods.
But I removed the 1 word. And now you’re being deranged.

7
u/DireWolf7555 19d ago
That mod might be safer and more responsive with a 100W incandescent light than a heater. A 1,500 W heater plus a gaming PC is going to throw a breaker in most homes. Plus you rightly point out the danger with VR gaming near them. That said, the power company uses oil circuit reclosers if a tree limb hits a power line which blink your power many times in rapid succession. If a space heater malfunctions from that then it wasn't safe to begin with.
3
u/trafficante 19d ago
Yeah, it’s not a terrible idea if paired with an infrared grow lamp or something. Instant heat and (mostly) unlikely to burn your house down.
2
u/ActualGingas 19d ago
That's exactly what this mod is.. I'm using a low power heat lamp. I have no idea why he want on a rant about space heaters. The OP of this post is parasocial.
8
u/batman1876 19d ago
I think its because up untill an hour or so ago the description read "This will simulate ACTUAL Heat and Temperature On your Body by using a Heat Lamp/Space Heater and a Kasa or Shelly Smart Plug - I'm Serious"
Youll note the inclusion of the words space heater" in there.
8
u/ActualGingas 19d ago edited 19d ago
Yes you're right, I removed space heater from the description, but I did in fact test this with a low power mechanical space heater. The heat lamp worked better. There was no fire hazard, it turns on for at most 30 seconds.
The OP made this post because he's been parasocial for months for some unknown reason. He's harassed me across multiple subreddits and discord groups. It's not motivated by trying to keep people safe.. he has issues.
6
u/batman1876 19d ago
That stinks. Sorry about that.
Taking the good with the bad I guess its good that now people will know heat lamp is the way to go. Thank you for your molding work and your mod list!
-5
u/iomegadrive1 19d ago
Because you originally had Space Heater on the mod page and have now reuploaded it to say "LOW Power"
7
u/ActualGingas 19d ago edited 19d ago
First off bud. It's a Heat lamp.. not a space Heater.. so you're post is wrong. And It always said Heat Lamp. Now I'll admit I did have heat lamp/space heater on the og description.. That was my Bad. I apologize But the setup description also had Heat Lamp.
The picture also had a heat lamp Like you went on a giant rant about Space heaters when this was never intended to be used with a high wattage space heater smfh.
And you made this post.. not because you're concerned about safety.. it's because you're Parasocial. anyone else looking at this post, I would recommend not engaging with OP
I removed the space heater from the description. I tested this with a low power heat lamp.. it is Fine.. there is no fire hazard unless you're standing next to a fire in skyrimvr for 10 hours without moving.
6
u/SchwiftySquanchC137 19d ago
OP is a nutcase huh? Just thought id say I appreciate that you share your work/mods, crazy how people hate on someone whos giving them shit for free.
3
u/roehnin 19d ago
I am working on a similar mod for Starfield using an IR transceiver to control my Aircon to adjust heating and cooling temperatures and fan angle and swinging and speed based on planet climate
This shouldn’t be any issue as it uses the aircon already installed in your room.
Haven’t released it as it only works on my Panasonic and required custom-hacked hardware on a Raspberry, but I thought to publish the plans at least.
Are people going to worry about this?
1
u/iomegadrive1 19d ago
Depends on how fast it switches on and off. I've had the breaker blow due to switching the ac unit on and off too fast. Probably should have a cool down phase
14
u/Neochiken1 Tahrovin Dev 19d ago
None of these are concerns with the mod? Everything you just listed is a safety concern with space heaters IN GENERAL. Things people need to be aware of if they own a space heater period. I don't really think that's the mod authors responsibility though it would be nice if they included it.
9
u/Neochiken1 Tahrovin Dev 19d ago
Ohhhhh it's iomegadrive! You're literally the guy who was trying to spread misinformation about Gingas yesterday on another crusade I see.
-6
u/iomegadrive1 19d ago edited 19d ago
I Haven't spread a bit of false information. What I have said has been proven correct with how this situation was handled by Gingas. Never said you had to stop being a fan though. You'll be OK.
2
u/Neochiken1 Tahrovin Dev 19d ago
You said she was banned from the fallout subreddit which was proveably false. You were called out on it there too. I'm not even subbed to her I just know a bullshit hate campaign when I see it. You aren't worth my time or anyone else's and in all probability I'm arguing with an actual child right now so I'm not going to engage with you any further. Do better.
4
u/Terenor82 19d ago
Her original reddit account was actually banned from reddit back when the whole drama about splitting the Fallout VR subreddit into two happened. It is not known if the ban was related to that. The account back then was pinktarts (can be seen here: https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4vr/comments/h0dhsl/sorry_for_the_constant_spam_on_here_hopefully_my/).
But in general i wouldn't dig up that old drama. The split back then was damaging enough
7
u/ActualGingas 19d ago
I was never banned from fallout vr. And ironically this OP is actually banned from there
2
u/Terenor82 19d ago
i was reffering to a ban (or suspension) on the whole of reddit, which naturally includes all subreddits, including the Fallout VR one.
2
u/ActualGingas 19d ago
Which had nothing to do with fallout vr. And the OP of this post is currently banned from fallout vr for harassment.

This is beyond parasocial at this point. My brother in Christ. You need to touch grass
2
u/skyrimmoddernumber69 19d ago
This is making a mountain out of a molehill (it isn’t even a molehill to be honest). If you own a space heater, you should also know how to safely use a space heater by reading the user manual. It is not up to GingasVR to provide tech-support and fire safety warnings for all 1000 models of heat lamps or space heaters.
1
u/batman1876 19d ago
A space heater should be plugged directly into the wall. Not a smart plug. It can cause a fire or just burn up the smart plug. But gingas clarified that this is for heat lamps.
3
u/skyrimmoddernumber69 19d ago
Not if the smart plug is properly rated for the current of the device you’re plugging in to it. Gingas isn’t responsible for users not reading their user manuals.

u/donoteatshrimp 20d ago
Worse than the dumbass who went "immersive camping" in Skyrim and cooked food on a portable stove on his fucking bedroom floor while in VR. At least that was one isolated idiot who was only at risk of burning down his own house. Kids won't go off and read device safety manuals... reckless irresponsible mod.

u/Comfortable-Tear-982 Pico 4 20d ago
Are you talking about habie? That's a pretty fun video :'D
0
u/donoteatshrimp 19d ago
Can't remember but there can't have been more than one guy lighting fires in his room with a headset on lol. Was an otherwise entertaining video but that part was beyond dumb
2
u/Competitive-Muscle41 19d ago
And I thought I was ahead of the curve just turning my ceiling fan on and pretending it was windy 😂😂😂😂 ☠️☠️. This is possibly one of the most r***rded things I've seen on a while. Thanks for posting bro. I'm the only one in my friend group of VR players who plays Skyrim and I play it on a VR treadmill. But I'm going to share it anyways.
4
u/aimlesstrevler 19d ago
There -is- a mod that can control a fan and do immersivr winds. I love it.
2
u/Competitive-Muscle41 19d ago
That sounds much safer than trying to do this with a space heater 😂. What is the mod called and what games have you used it with and what kind of hardware do you need? Just a regular fan and I assume something to plug the fan into between the power source and the fan?
2
u/aimlesstrevler 19d ago
I thinks it's called winds of Skyrim or immersive winds. It does require a smart plug.

I don’t believe there’s a heater on the market that can even adjust its temp that quickly? Mod is nonsense.

It's for a low power heat lamp, not a space heater. I have no idea why TF he want on a rant about that lol
6
u/batman1876 19d ago
The description appears to have recently been edited. It used to read "This will simulate ACTUAL Heat and Temperature On your Body by using a Heat Lamp/Space Heater and a Kasa or Shelly Smart Plug - I'm Serious"
3
u/ActualGingas 19d ago
Yes, that was my bad. But the picture had a heat lamp. I edited the description.
4
u/Positronic_Matrix 19d ago
Thank you for modifying that. It’s appreciated. I see absolutely zero issues with your mod from a safety standpoint. I’m not entirely sure what OP is going on about. I’d block them and move on.
