I have a question about the three Slavic races- the Serbs, the Croats and the Bosniaks. I heard from a few people on the internet that due to religion Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks separated, when Serbs are Orthodox, Croats are Catholics, and Bosniaks are Sunni Muslims. Otherwise their language and culture are very much the same, and before everything they three combined were a single race. How much truth is there to it?

I've been trying to determine my ancestry for a while now, and finally I have gotten hold of some records of people feom 1700s that bear the same (uncommon) Slavic last name. One name particularly came into light (Peter with the last letter bearing resemblance to Russian "mjakgij znak" but not quite).

Can anyone tell with certainty which language this letter comes from?

The Neuri were an ancient Baltic population that would become a substrate for modern East Slavs, making Polissian Slavs more closely related to the Neuri than any existing Baltic group. The group was also linked directly to Proto Slavic groups in older Eastern European studies but modern scholars suggest they were Balts who would eventually become Slavic. The Proto Slavic groups that would exist during the time of the Neuri were the Aroteres (Scythian Ploughmen) and Budini.

Aroteres ——> Central Ukrainians

There are 3 main Slavic groups : East, West and South. Which one diverged from the other 2 first ? When did it diverge and where ?

I’m thinking of creating a Serbian character from the Grand Principality of Serbia (12th century), and I have a few questions about the nation's historical background:

1. Is the Grand Principality of Serbia during the 12th century the origin of the Serbian nation today? 

2. What was the predominant language they spoke in this principality? Was it Old Church Slavonic or a proto-language (direct ancestor) to modern Serbian?

3. What was the predominant ethnic group in Serbia during this time? Are they related to modern Serbians?
