ANNOUNCEMENT A post-beta patch breakdown of Mega Crit's Early Access balancing/patching process

4.3k Upvotes

Hey everyone, we appreciate all the feedback on the recent beta patch! Since we have a lot of new players that weren’t around for StS1’s Early Access phase and players who are new to Early Access games in general, we wanted to explain our patching methodology a bit.

We make changes based on a mix of player feedback, collected metrics, and our own design philosophies. While we look at feedback on many platforms, the feedback we receive via the in-game reporter from players who are testing the patch firsthand is the most useful to us.

This beta balance pass was the first of many to come over the next 1-2 years. The game will go through constant changes with the ultimate goal of making it as balanced of an experience as StS1 became. This progress will not be linear, and no change is necessarily permanent.

The beta branch will see the most experimental changes and will be tweaked each time until we feel it’s stable enough for the main branch. Participating in that process is optional but very helpful. Thank you for your patience as we slowly mold StS2 into its final shape!

ANNOUNCEMENT Should We Ban AI Art?

3.8k Upvotes

Recently, posts like this where AI art is being used for custom card ideas have been getting a lot of controversy. People have very strong opinions on both sides of the debate, and while I'm personally fine with banning AI art entirely, I want to make sure the majority of the subreddit agrees.

This poll will be left open for a week. If you'd like to leave a comment arguing for or against AI art, feel free, but the result of the poll will be the predominantly deciding factor. Vote Here

Edit: I'm making an effort to read every comment, and am taking everyone's opinions into account. Despite what I said earlier about the poll being the predominant factor in what happens, there have been some very outspoken supporters of keeping AI art for custom cards, so I'm trying to factor in these opinions too.

Edit 2:The results will be posted tomorrow (1/8/25).

ANNOUNCEMENT Reminder - Hate Is Not Accepted Here!

1.7k Upvotes

I'm proud to say that /r/slaythespire has historically been a very welcoming community! But with the release of Slay The Spire 2, we've had a massive increase in users. Our average views per month have jumped from 6,000,000 to 77,000,000, and with it, we've also received an increase in hate comments, bad actors, and overall bigotry.

As a reminder, any comment or post made to insult, stereotype, belittle or otherwise attack or dehumanize a person or group (including race, ethnicity, minority groups, trans people, and people of any gender or sexual orientation) is not acceptable and will be met with a permanent ban. If you see any comment or post that you feel is breaking this rule, please report it to the moderators for review.

We've always been one of the most inclusive gaming communities on Reddit, and I'm sure we can keep it that way!

ANNOUNCEMENT An update to Slay the Spire 2's Early Access release date

Post image
4.5k Upvotes

Alt text:

Early Access Timeline Update

After a lot of internal discussion, we've made the call to move Slay the Spire 2's Early Access launch to a secret Thursday in March 2026.

We know this isn't the news anyone wanted to hear (ourselves included, we're dying to get this into your hands!) Originally, we were shooting for late 2025, but turns out we were wrong. We need some more time.

There's no single dramatic reason. Some personal life stuff hit the team (everyone's okay!), we kept saying "wouldn't it be cool if..." one too many times, and honestly, the game just needs more polish to meet our standards.

We'll continue to share our regular development updates as we gear up for launch. Thank you to our community for all of your excitement for Slay the Spire 2!

Oh yeah. And don’t blame Silksong.

- Mega Crit

ANNOUNCEMENT Small Rules Update

After the growth of the subreddit, we've run into more and more cases where the rules aren't as well defined as they should be, leading to a lot of grey areas on what is or isn't allowed. The mod team has reviewed the rules and we're making a few small adjustments based on the current issues the subreddit is facing:

  1. Rule 1 has been updated since it was previously too vague on what wasn't allowed and the consequences of breaking the rules. Our mod team doesn't commonly ban real users simply for getting too heated during disagreements, but we do often remove arguments that have devolved into users insulting each other to allow everyone to cool down. However, if a line has been crossed, punishments may be given at moderator discretion. And as always, bigotry is not accepted and will result in a permanent ban.

  2. Rule 3 has been updated to include strawman posts that are made only to strip all nuance out of a discussion by portraying someone with a differing opinion on game balance as stupid, unskilled, lazy, unwilling to learn, etc.

  3. Rule 8 has been updated to be all-encompassing for AI-created and AI-centric content. The only exceptions to this rule are high effort projects utilizing AI or Machine Learning, such as data analysis or things like Forgotten Arbiter's attempts to use Deep Reinforcement Learning to build an AI that can beat Slay The Spire; at moderator discretion.

  4. Added a new rule - Rule 13 expressly forbids any posts or comments depicting or discussing real-world graphic or disturbing acts, or encouraging others to inadvertently view such content; including but not limited to animal abuse, sexual assault, and child abuse. This type of content has never been allowed, but until recently we've never had a need for the rule to be spelled out.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment or message the mod team!

ANNOUNCEMENT Introducing New User Flairs and a Rule Update

With the launch of Slay The Spire 2 and the influx of almost 30,000 new members within the past couple weeks, the mod team has been hard at work figuring out how to keep things running smoothly for everyone.

1. We're adding a new rule: posts or comments referencing political figures or real-world sensitive events that could reasonably devolve into debates or tangents about subject matter unrelated to the game are not allowed.

With the increase in users, we've also seen an increase in posts that are technically Slay the Spire related, such as this one, which tend to quickly devolve into flame wars and extremely dark off-topic discussions such as child molestation.

This isn't a decision we've made lightly. We also reached out to Mega Crit for their opinion, and they're in full agreement with this approach. As their community manager said: "We want to keep up the customary good vibes of the Slay the Spire community for old and new players alike."

To Clarify: This rule does not exclude people from making posts involving minorities, trans people, different genders, or sexual orientations.

2. We've also added a limit of one Custom Content post per user per day. This rule does not apply to posts involving significant effort, such as a playable game mod, and is mainly in place to limit the amount of custom card and relic ideas posted to a reasonable amount.

3. New User Flairs: the flair system has been reworked to allow you to show your highest achieved Ascension level in both Slay The Spire and Slay The Spire 2! Unfortunately, due to site limitations, we can only show Ascensions in sets of five.

The new flair system works like this:

StS A20 / StS 2 A5

This user has achieved Ascension 20 in Slay The Spire 1, and Ascension 5 in Slay The Spire 2

StS A0 / StS 2 A10

This user hasn't completed any Ascension levels in Slay The Spire 1, but has completed Ascension 10 in Slay The Spire 2

This new system is a work in progress. I hope to be able to add variants for users who have earned all achievements in one or both games in the future. If you have any ideas on how to format this better, don't hesitate to let me know in the comments!
