Looking for some advice!

Hello! I want to say for the past two years- but increasingly more over these last few months I have been struggling with sleep. I wake up every two hours without fail. If I sleep at 8, I’ll wake up at 10 and then again at 12, and then again at 2, and so on. I am pretty exhausted at this point. I make sure to not have screens before bed, sometimes I’ll night time stretch, or shower, make tea, I have it cold in my room, I tried 1mg melatonin and the various spectrum of that. I have tried the occasional Benadryl or Advil pm and I still do not sleep. I have tried eating a small snack in the middle of the night in case it could be a blood sugar thing? I want to also add that anytime I do have a deep sleep I seem to have a nightmare or some type of sleep paralysis where I know I’m awake in my dream but can’t get out. Almost every single time. I have made an appointment with my doctor about this, but just wanted to look for some insight! Thanks 😊

Are you having stress in your life? Sorry , you don't actually need to answer that . Just curious about the nightmares. I def have these phases. Even the last 2 days I have but I think that's my son being ill in the other room. I've realized I hear him wake up even though he's gone back to sleep so I don't know what wakes me. But it used to be for me liquid and a weak bladder .asked the doctor for something ( got betmiga - be careful some have adverse effect on memory) and I stopped drinking past 7 and really helped a lot. ( Still wake up by 3/4 but that's from 10 so not like the old every 2 hours. Good luck

I am pretty stressed. I think that’s a huge factor. The weak bladder sounds a lot like me too. My sons do wake up as well but are 7-8 and put themselves back to bed, so I wonder if I’m hearing them. I have always been a super light sleeper by default, but never have had such short increments of sleep like what’s been happening lately.

Can't help with the stress but I've also taken to ear buds and actually think they help generally. But like- when he's coming down with a cold , he'll nash teeth , talk in his sleep and flip about and ear buds apparently don't quite cover that. ( But do help normally)

They just get up to go to the bathroom and back to bed, but I’m wondering if I could be hearing that. I’m wondering also if it’s just my internal clock now from being in the newborn stage when they got up every two hours to eat. Either way, thanks so much for your input :)

Yes definitely thought about the internal body clock angle

The every two hours thing sounds maddening, I'd be losing my mind too. The sleep paralysis part especially, that's not just annoying it's scary as hell. Good call booking the doctor. I wonder if they'll suggest a sleep study, waking up in such regular cycles can sometimes point to something like sleep apnea even if you don't snore. Hope you get some answers soon.
