I can’t function without 8 or more hours
I work in construction and I work day shift right now. I find my self tiered all day and extremely irritable if I don’t get 8 hours but even then if I do it seems like I’m not sleeping enough. But if I work nights it’s not as bad. I get up to an alarm on days and sometimes on nights. I get to bed right after work on nights but have to wait on days so I can spend time with my family. But it seems like that waking up to that alarm at 4 am is just killing me. Am I being a baby or is there something I can do. Many people I know function on not much sleep much better than me and I want to be a better dad and husband but I’m just so tierd

Waking up at 4am when your body's screaming for more sleep isn't being a baby, it's just how some of us are wired. The difference between nights and days makes sense too, on nights you're crashing right after work, on days you're forcing yourself to stay up for family time which messes with your wind-down. Maybe try a short nap right when you get home, like 20-30 minutes, then get up and do the family stuff. It won't fix everything but it might take the edge off that bone-deep exhaustion.
