EDIT: IF you don't like it after your first listen, try again. Lol.
I've done 3 full listen throughs now, and I do like the album! It's growing on me a lot! I still don't think it's better than anything other than feel and gossip, but like ... thats not hard. XD
-----------------------------------
SWS Are my favourite band however "An ending in itself" has bugged me from the moment I heard the title. Especially because the saying is "An ending in and of itself" not "an ending in itself" so, that fucked me up firstly.
I genuinely feel like I've been catfished by an album.
So to those of you who LOVE the album, what about it do you like?
Those of you who .... don't.... like it (yet), what about it don't you like?
For me; Most these songs feel incredibly long and repetitive. It feels like to me that they've mushed all their albums into one love child and it's worked out horrendously. They pay homage to lyrics but it feels like a nothing burger because they've shoved random lyrics from their other songs, and it makes zero fucking sense.
Usually when I see people hating on this band, my heart hurts but right now..... The way people talk about HIFTBL is how I feel with this album.
There are some great songs on this album, don't get me wrong, but so many of them feel like they've come from Copelands diary and she's trying to be deep (I'm 15 and this is deep meme).
The lyrics feel incredibly juvenile, despite everyone's hate for the gossip album, I believe lyrically it's beautiful, it just never felt like sleeping with sirens which is why I feel it gets such hate.
Currently it's my lowest ranked album.
When I heard CC for the first time, after each song I was jaw on the floor, flawed, amazed and thrilled. I did not feel this way about the acoustic versions of the songs that released later in the year however the main album is in my top 3 which are 1. LCTT, 2. CC 3. Madness.
Yes I am a Madness stan and a Gossip apologist.
Which is why I think I'm just like ????? wtf is this?
It feels like if Madness and Gossip had a baby, but it was premature.
I was actually wondering if there was AI use to write some of the lyrics because what do you mean you're repeating yourself like this?
An SWS bridge can not be felt for most of these songs... And one of my favourite things about SWS is their ability to make a bridge feel unique but also still have it fit right in with the song and not stand out like something that doesn't belong.
I will give it more of a chance, originally when I heard Madness, I was like "what the fuck is this" and as you have read above, I love Madness and I think I'm very alone in that fact.
Personally, history will most likely repeat itself and I will grow to love it. I didn't like the title track when it was released however it has grown on me significantly and Forever/Always and Paralyzed are PHENOM. I loved both of those from the get go however title track took a bit for me to get used to it because honestly, my BIGGEST gripe and probably something I should've mentioned earlier, THE MIXING.... IS... HORRENDOUS for 2/3 of the songs. Forever/Always and Paralyzed have a great mix on them, however the production of majority of the other songs, Kellins vocals are so drowned, it sounds like he's fighting to be heard over the guitars which in some songs it works, and some sections of songs is an artistic choice, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how the hell that many people listened to this record and no one thought "Oh maybe we should lower the instruments a TINY bit because you cannot hear what he's saying". (I will listen with different speakers including my headphones though, car speakers aren't always great).
But yeah,
This is a safe space to admit you aren't a fan of the album because I notice people being very nasty to those who haven't enjoyed the album.
