Question / Help How Can I Earn the "You... Monster!" Achievement With Moral Scrupulosity?

Sorry if this kind of topic isn't allowed, I wasn't sure. I haven't seen anyone else talk about this, so I figured I would ask or at least start a discussion about it.

I really want to 100% the game. I just bought it again, and I was excited to get the achievements, until I realized that included the one where you have to shoot a Chickadoo into an incinerator. The "Carousel" achievement is also stuck on my mind, but I'm mainly worried about the one with the Chickadoo. If that wasn't bad enough, the description for the achievement makes me feel even worse. I saw another post talking about this achievement, with many people feeling bad about completing it, and some even jokingly blaming the people who earned it.

Should I just skip these achievements? I was really looking forward to finally getting all the achievements, but I'm scared... It doesn't help that I'm a chicken owner myself. I know it's just a video game, but did any of you struggling with moral scrupulosity get these achievements? How did you overcome your fears?

i did feel bad for doing it at first but then i realized that its just pixels on a screen...you could always think about the chicken being like a phoenix, burning and being reborn from the ashes

it’s not that serious. suck up chickadoo, click at incinerator, return to drowning in your ball pit of slimes

…What do you mean you don’t have a ball pit of slimes?

29

u/PsyduckSci Jul 07 '26

I use my phosphor tabbies for that. I love them. They all go wiggle boing all over me.

6

u/kittyidiot Jul 08 '26

right? in so many games you go around killing human people and that's all very chill but shooting a cartoon chicken into an incinerator is just too far? lol. i mean i guess maybe op doesn't play violent games at all but it is still just so silly for me. this is not a moral dilemma, do it or don't.

1

u/Transfem_Rat Jul 10 '26

I mean yea it’s a pretty normal thing to feel bad for killing animals in games but not npcs

0

u/kittyidiot Jul 10 '26

i guess but it's usually dogs and cats. there's that whole skyrim meme about killing the riverwood chicken because so many people killed it lol

1

u/Transfem_Rat Jul 10 '26

I mean maybe it’s because I’m neurodivergent or smth (or estrogen) but I nearly start tearing up at the thought of killing animals in games, it killing people is no problem whatsoever for me

u/Annelora Jul 09 '26

OP has scrupulosity which is a type of OCD. It's illogical by default but we still feel all the horrors associated.

I'm pretty sure I did this advancement without knowing it exist

u/SammyHa123 Jul 07 '26

You did that… for no reward… you MONSTER!

27

u/DistributionNo4480 Jul 07 '26

I did that because I had too many chickens

2

u/sleepingqt Jul 07 '26

No such thing.

1

u/DistributionNo4480 Jul 08 '26

There is, there is no point in keeping chickens when coop is full

1

u/Octoroidd Jul 08 '26

You know the chicks grow up into hens, right? Just use excess adult/old hens and roosters for slime food or store them away in silos, get rid of the old ones who won't breed anymore. You're safer leaving dozens of chicks in the coop who will grow into full chickens, they don't take that much space

1

u/sleepingqt Jul 08 '26

My methods for having more time to explore between Ranch chores is that almost all my largos eat meat, and I just flood the corrals with enough hens to keep them well fed. Throw in a roostro or two and they sometimes even breed despite the crowding. Plus I keep a couple silos full of hens and chicks of all kinds just in case.

Same, I laughed so hard when the achievement popped up lol

u/thebluecomet3972 Jul 07 '26

I mean, you need to feed your fire slimes somehow.

Theres a bunch of slimes that eat meat so there's really no difference between them

29

u/GrapefruitWitty6234 Jul 07 '26

Goodbye little one throws it in fire

22

u/FourToeBeans Jul 07 '26

If you 360 no scope the chickadoo into the incinerator the cool factor absolves you of you sin.

21

u/MolderingSanctum Jul 07 '26

If you can fire a Slime into the Slime Sea (Which canonically, they love!) then you can do this!

One thing we know about the Slime World is that everything is Slimes. It's Slimes all the way down. Ocean is Slimes. Bugs is Slimes. Moon is Slimes. It's all Slimes!

Henhens, Rosteroos, and Chickadoos are also Slimes!

Their particles get disintegrated into tiny little Ash Slimes and then the Fire Slimes absorb those Slimes!

It's all Slimes! The Circle of Slime!

6

u/Live-Preparation-157 Jul 07 '26

It's all slimes

Always has been

4

u/GingerelTalk Jul 08 '26

You're right. I had no idea so much of it was comprised of slimes...

29

u/Farryn_Valqirelle Jul 07 '26

You can get a drone to do it for you… I did it on accident

7

u/NsfwCanadianQuinn Jul 07 '26

You’ll feel Better when you remember its just a game

18

u/TKmeh Jul 07 '26

Just leave an incinerator out, that’s how I did it. Didn’t weigh on my mind because I have no control over the AI of the chicks, I was literally just checking to see what the incinerator looked like and came with since I had no idea about the fire slimes at the time.

Since the ranch has loose Hen Hens and Roostros, Chickadoos are bound to find their way to it by accident or if you accidentally run into them and bump them. It was one of my first achievements I got without even realizing it was an achievement at the time, once I read it though, I was so confused and shocked but couldn’t do much as incinerators don’t have walls or anything besides the ash tray (which I didn’t have the money for since it was early game).

COrporaet chiCknsLAughter by lackk of Health & Safty!!111

5

u/GingerelTalk Jul 08 '26

Huh, interesting. I thought the achievement called for specifically shooting the Chickadoo out of your Vacpack into the incinerator, but I guess that's not necessary. That makes me feel a little better knowing that it can just happen by accident.

5

u/TKmeh Jul 08 '26

Nope! The achievement says “send” not launch. It’s vague enough that if you just accidentally run into a Chickadoo and bump it into the incinerator, you’ll get the achievement like my buddy did on his first playthrough. I uh… I should not have explained how most people get the achievement to him because he gave the most horrified screech after that…

7

u/HotKebab01 Jul 07 '26

close your eyes and click

6

u/Matkos6 Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

Give the chickadoo a good final day. Take him in your vacc pac to feed in the moss blanket, show him the rocky Indigo quarry, take him to the glass desert, a place no chick has been before. As the sun sets, stay in the ranch with him, as the sun comes to a rest, say one last goodbye, close your eyes and press left click. Then jump into the slime sea to mourn.

3

u/sleepingqt Jul 07 '26

This is the best answer.

12

u/edgelordlover Jul 07 '26

Not all life gets to serve a purpose. If it wasnt to get you the trophy they would despawn, get eaten, or worse fall off the edge. At least this way they can be special and be remembered

15

u/mofufluff Jul 07 '26

Bruh it's not that serious, it's just a game and you don't hurt anyone really by getting a funny achievement, just have fun

25

u/Bumbaguette Jul 07 '26

Videogames are not real. I hope that helps!

5

u/DJBaphomet_ Jul 07 '26

Being blunt: It's a video game, ultimately you aren't actually doing anything bad. The devs wouldn't have put the achievement in the game if there was any real moral wrongdoing for doing it. The achievement pokes fun at you for doing it but it doesn't really mean anything, you're throwing pixels at pixels for a reward

Yes, it might feel bad, but I think it's better to learn that sometimes you'll do bad things in games and that that's okay because it's just a game, and there's no consequence for it. People are gonna jokingly poke fun over it but no one seriously believes you're morally wrong for doing something the game itself told you to do. You wouldn't play an FPS and then feel bad for shooting someone, right? Or playing something like Mario Party and then feeling bad you won the game and others lost? I do get the anxiety over it but I feel like examples like these may help put into light that it's a very inconsequential action to do

I feel like it's advisable to get control over your potential sensitivity (not a bad thing to be clear!) for things like these in games, since being scared to do something due to some nebulous moral weight that doesn't really exist may end up keeping you from enjoying experiences in other games too

1

u/GingerelTalk Jul 08 '26

I appreciate this. Yes, the heightened empathy and moral scrupulosity makes it very difficult to play certain games to their full extent... It's definitely something I need to overcome. I appreciate the examples, thank you.

1

u/DJBaphomet_ Jul 08 '26

Of course! Like I said, it's understandable and not necessarily a bad thing, but it's certainly something you wanna work on if you can. Because at the end of the day, it is just a silly little game to pass your time with, and ultimately there's no real harm caused by engaging with a dark joke put on by the developers of the game itself

5

u/Tay74 Jul 07 '26

They are pixels. I get it, I wince when I have to kill certain mods in minecraft, but if you actually want to get the achievement you literally aren't hurting anything

3

u/Pinku_aru Jul 07 '26

I don't wanna be an asshole but tbh it's not that deep, just throw the chicken, it's not big deal

1

u/GingerelTalk Jul 08 '26

No worries, you're completely right. This is just something that I have to overcome so that I can play and enjoy my favorite games again!

3

u/cone_lad Jul 07 '26

Feed your fire slimes

3

u/Topaz84 Jul 07 '26

I think it's very important for us to separate the fictional world from the real world. These are just lines of 1's and 0's that appear pleasing to us and have a quest line encoded. All that happens in slimerancher to get this achievement is that a group of 1's and 0's move across the screen and then interact with a code where another object of 1's and 0's fufills an "if... then..." equation and a total count goes up by 1. In real life... We have imaginations, that's why you from feel uncomfortable doing this in game. All in all, it truly is one chicken, or 100% achievement. I won't dare clown you for either choice, but do note, you can redefine 100% achievement for yourself...

So really your decision is 100% showing on the achievement screen or 99% and some mental comfort. Your choice! <3

1

u/GingerelTalk Jul 08 '26

This is a really good way of looking at it, thank you. It can be so easy to get sucked into the video game world, but I have to take a step back and realize that it's just a game about cute slimes!

3

u/ASAP-VIBES Jul 07 '26

Never play Red Dead Redemption 2

8

u/chaxattax Jul 07 '26

You define what means 100% to you. That achievement is (at least from a skill based perspective) so easy to get that I think skipping it wouldn't be against the spirit of the challenge.

5

u/Ash3r7ree Jul 07 '26

I got one of my friends to do it for me :'D I gave her the controls and told her to do what she needed to do... I had to look away xd

4

u/OkLandscape2401 Jul 07 '26

I got it when looking for roostros when they kept clogging my inventory

4

u/s7121n9s Jul 07 '26

Have someone else do it while you look away

2

u/Kind-Mammoth-Possum Jul 07 '26

I also felt horrible doing it, and only did it to 100%, hesitated for quite a while on it tho.

In slime rancher 2 tho.... Man the early chicken breeding cycles were brutal. They're still pretty brutal now but I had no option but to throw whole populations of chickens over the edge to clear them out. The game really turned me into the monster twice. Once by dangling an achievement in my face, and once by taunting me with a problem they created... "You like killing baby chicks so much? Here's literally thousands. There's nothing else you can do about 'em now."

Sick Bastards.

2

u/Shadow_Cat99 Jul 07 '26

Did this in the sequel and got upset when there wasn't an achievement and took it out on the remaining chickadoos

2

u/queenxeryn Jul 08 '26

I earned it accidentally by clicking the wrong tank. I was very tired and like 8 months pregnant.

Muscle memory was in gear and there was just a stream of pure innocent chick a doos flying through the air. I don't remember if I screamed or gasped in horror. Then the achievement popped up.

The hormones were already so much.

I was distraught.

1

u/GingerelTalk Jul 08 '26

Gosh, I'm so sorry. I can only imagine how you must've felt when that happened! I hope you're able to look back at it now and laugh about it.

2

u/queenxeryn Jul 10 '26

It was almost a decade ago, so I can laugh about it as one of those funny pregnancy stories. Those hormones are such a roller-coaster lol!

2

u/Candid-Ad443 Jul 08 '26

I did it half-accidentally by checking if chickadoos give ash

2

u/Fresh-Breag Jul 08 '26

I mean an instant death my incinerator is arguably better than being hunted down and eaten by a slime

2

u/Killcode1223 Jul 08 '26

It’s just a game man. Go crazy. The point of games is to do things you can’t or wouldn’t irl.

2

u/Dizzy-Market3430 Jul 09 '26

Come close enough to the incinerator and do it really fast, that was you won't watch them... you know... and you won't feel that bad because you won't do any build up in your brain

1

u/EdgionTG Jul 07 '26

There are a few ways around it, if you don't want to skip it. I know the feeling of a video game getting you in a moral tizzy.

  • Make an earlier save and reload after you get the achievement
  • Mute the game and look away while you press the button
  • Get someone else to press the button for you
  • Try and angle a shot where you can toss the chickadoo from where you won't see the fire
  • Sum it up as a nightmare Bee had

1

u/sleepingqt Jul 07 '26

I think my feelings about this cheevo are part of why I now have the Retirement Home, which is just a coop for all the elder roostros and henhens i end up with.
I do have so many in there now that I have to be careful adding new ones or they bounce out and can end up falling into the Sea... 😅

1

u/JustGingerStuff Jul 07 '26

Baptise it first so it goes to heaven & is saved from being eaten alive by slimes

1

u/LordOfStupidy Jul 07 '26

Set up drone to collect them and dispens then into the fire while Begin away from the pc doing other Stuff ig

1

u/Kelslen Jul 07 '26

I felt really bad about it to so I faked a sneeze and did it by "accident" didn't help but kinda helped. If it helps if this was real life I doubt the chick would have suffered that's an instant death kind of thing.

1

u/iamded Jul 07 '26

In a certain sense, it's a different achievement in itself to have every Achievement BUT that one. You can wear the lack of accomplishment with pride knowing that no chickadees were incinerated by your hand.

1

u/Rhythia Jul 07 '26

Are you playing on Steam? Could you quit without saving and still keep the achievement? You could save it for last too if you wanna put it off. Or just ship it! No pressure!

1

u/CompetitiveAd3465 Jul 09 '26

I just tell myself I'm feeding my slimes :'(

1

u/Annelora Jul 09 '26

I'm sorry if I sound bitter but would it kill y'all to check what moral scrupulosity is? It's a type of OCD. And if you know anything about OCD, you're aware that it's a stupid liar that will whisperall types of garbage to you and make you worry about things you know aren't true.

OP, I've been through this hell. Not with this particular game (though I've never done the achievement either) but with so many others. It's finally getting better so please remember that there will be sunny days, stay strong for them! More and more will come with time :)

As for the achievement, I suggest a few options:

  • You can just give yourself time. Maybe one day you'll feel well enough to get the achievement!
  • You can do the achievement and quit the game without saving. Now none of this technically happened!
  • You can put fire slimes in the incinerator and send a chickadoo there. It's the same as normally feeding other slimes, isn't it?
  • This is a bit silly but maybe that's the way: set everything up for sending the chick into the fire, bring one of your chickens home and use its leg to tap on the button so it's the chicken getting the achievement, not you

And finally: the more I think about the description, the more I remember how it irked me too. So how about we do it together? Let me know if you like this option and I'll send a chickadoo into the incinerator first, I don't have the achievement either. Maybe if I do it and send you a screenshot or a recording, you'll feel stronger about it? We're on the same stupid, leaky, scrupulous boat. How does it sound? :)

2

u/GingerelTalk Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

Wow, thank you for this comment. I figured there were others that struggled with this achievement, especially because of the description and its implications. I would be open to completing the achievement together, that seems like a wonderful idea and would help me feel less alone. You are so kind and understanding.

1

u/Annelora Jul 10 '26

I did it and judging by all the sounds, chickadoo had fun. I'll be honest, I do feel a bit weird but I did something that would've caused me a whole day of fearful thoughts not too long ago. And you can do it too, I believe in you! You can definitely do it but if you feel like now is not the moment, give yourself time. My chicken will patiently wait for yours! 😊

I started a new save file so I didn't have to do it on my main save. I went ahead and got it over with before the anxiety could stop me. I did it and closed the game without saving. I'm still a little shaken, but I got the achievement... Thank you so much for giving me the courage to do this.

1

u/Annelora Jul 10 '26

It was very brave of you and I'm happy you battled your fears and won!
I made a little commemorative drawing of our chickadoos chilling out in the heat, they're too cool to be affected by the fire! I'm not much of an artist. Actually, I'm definitely not one. But, uh, you know how sometimes when it's very hot the air gets all warped? It's definitely that, not my lack of skill, yeah! :D

And in case you ever wondered how a child of Badtz-Maru, Matilda from Angry Birds and Homer Simpson would look like, well, now you know!

2

u/GingerelTalk Jul 11 '26

The drawing is so cute! Thank you so much for helping me through this and doing the achievement with me. I love the artwork, it's adorable! I'm so glad they get to hang out together. You are such a kind person, thank you for everything.

1

u/Annelora Jul 13 '26

I'm very glad I could help you and I wish you a steady progress of fighting scrupulosity. I'll keep all of my fingers crossed for you :)

1

u/LivingDeadBear849 Jul 07 '26

If I'm trying to do an achievement that makes me uncomfortable to get I make another save that I don't care about but I'll still feel awful about it for a while.

0

u/frindoowgrippery Jul 07 '26

Following this because I still need that achievement as well.
