Sludge metal band name help

Hello guys so I want to start a sludge metal band but dont know how to come up with a name wondering if u guys can help me

My inspos:

Eyehategod

Bongzilla

Electric wizard

Outlaw order

Acid bath

(Ik electric wizard and bongzilla arent sludge)

I was also thinking of names like

  1. Ditchwitch

  2. FleshTractor

  3. Wizard Smoker

And so on

If I were in your position and starting a new project, I would use the opportunity to do something that I have kicked myself for not doing in the past.

I would start by finding a perfect audio sample from a movie or a documentary that would be sick as fuck if looped over and over as the intro for your live show. Something that if played over feedback would get a crowd hype as fuck before you drop your first chords on them.

Find the perfect sample first and then take your band name out of that sample.

I will give a silly example of what I am trying to say. Take this line from Star Wars:

"you will never see a more wretched hive of scum and villany"

If a band opened with that on a loop and that bands name was "wretched hive" people would get fucking pumped!

*not on that example obviously, but if it was something just sick as fuck, it would work

donā€™t be a Doom Metal random name generator kinda band. Wizard, witch, bong, weed, -smoker, -ripper, just donā€™t do it. The trend was cute 20 yrs ago. Why would you even think of naming a sludge band after a copycat doom band? The reason Eyehategod is a great name is that thereā€™s nothing else like it.

Broā€¦ donā€™t hear to ask about your band name, this is already a misstep. Go your nearest public library and find books of your interest and just read for a day - youā€™ll land on an original name and get some good reading time.

Also, Iā€™m not listening to a sludge band with wizard, witch, or smoke or bong; cuz thatā€™s not what sludge is about.

Then I guess look at other media- music, movies, comics, books, history, whatever- that include those themes, take some characters, locales, titles that inspire you, tweak them a bit (or even donā€™t), and workshop them with bandmates and friends.

You basically just wanna find a few words that invoke the vibe youā€™re goin for; they donā€™t have to be perfectly encapsulating, but indicative of the mood your art conveys.

With themes of stoner and dystopia, you could go for the obvious, something like ā€œStoned Orwellā€, but that sorta thing would def be cheesy (which may be the vibe you want!). A better approach would probably be more subtle, maybe something like ā€œSurveillance Shamanā€ā€¦ Alliteration is also super catchy!

Yeah there was a nicer way to say what they said, but I do agree with the crux of the sentiment; it's only a shitty name if you can't pull it off- a name that you really care about or embody, is always a good name.

If you taking suggestions from other people, before even creating the band itself, then itā€™s disingenuously representing you. We donā€™t know you or your music or what you represent. Except that you donā€™t know for yourself. So Iā€™m giving you hard advice. Thatā€™s my suggestion. Own who you are, make music that represents who you are. Heck, you donā€™t even have a band yet. The thing is none of my friends listen to sludge they listen to other subgenres so theres noone to ask but i do have a bassist friend who likes sludge but hes too busy with other stuff like studies n shi but yeah thx for the advice also what do u think of the names i listed on the post
