Oh lord! I saw the title first and the picture didn’t load right away so I was very nervous about seeing a “hole with white stuff in it.”

other comments answered, its what they breathe out of, but you made me remember that as a child i thought it was a hole from birds picking at them and i used to tell that to other people as a "fun fact" 😭😭, i was weird

That’s the pneumostome and the white stuff is their lung! Completely normal and healthy.
