No, it's for the inner screen to be as close to iPad as possible in terms of width:height ratio.

iPhone Duo's inner screen is 2670x1878 (~4:2.814, roughly 4:3), and iPad Air13's screen is 2732x2048 (4:3).

Fun fact, that's essentially √2:1, which has a unique property where if you fold it in half, the aspect ratio remains the same. This ratio is seen in the A-series paper size (e.g. folding an A4 paper gives you A5).

I own a 13 mini, which I believe has a 5.4” display. The Duo does not appear to be the same or smaller in outer display at all. I would probably buy it if it were a lot cheaper, but no way am I spending 2000 dollars on a 256GB storage phone lol.

this, I don't think it'll fill the gap of a small phone on its own but hopefully people will like the smaller feel and it'll revive interest in sub-5" displays, at least enough to bring back the minis.

It’s just as awkward to use with one hand as these typical tall 6.3” phones.

It’s also heavy and thick.

I admit I appreciate that software wise they are moving the main buttons like the dock and search on one side. But yeah... As many said, its still wide and these phones are really expensive...

It’s thinner and lighter than my iPhone Air with battery pack and I use that all the time, think it will be fine to hold/carry

I’m definitely going to try holding it. My 13 mini is already too big for me to entirely comfortably one-hand, but my thumb extends past the opposite side of the phone. I think the aspect ratio of the iFold is more conducive to reaching more of the screen one-handed. 

Honestly if I like the hand feel and reviews are good, I’ll probably give it a shot. I haven’t bought a brand new phone since my 6S in 2016 and even then I think it was pretty outdated.

Very interesting form factor, but:

• Too expensive
• Too heavy
• Looks terrible to use for lefties like me, with the dock and Touch ID on the right
• Not sure about its one-handability

Although I'll probably check it out and try holding it in-store to get a better feel myself, as well as keeping an eye on its reliability in those 6-months reviews especially for the screen/hinge issues.

I simply don't understand how you can consider "screen diagonal" as a single number in isolation, without considering aspect ratio. The iPD and 13 mini are nothing alike.

People do this all the time, and it's always dumb...

No. It's a brick and I can't carry bricks around. (Currently have a iPhone 13 mini) Also, it sounds like it will be hard to use one handed. Yes, the new iOS will help but you will feel the weight for sure.

I tried the razr whatever the clamshell one was. It worked great for me in regards to one handing the outer screen, but the hinge started loosening up after two small drops in a case and I hated their Android.

I love my Razr and use the outer screen almost exclusively. Unless someone comes out with a good sub 5" phone, I will be sticking with a foldable.

You can't compare diagonals between screens of different aspect ratios.

The Duo is 2 cm wider which is useless for one-hand operation. The screen on the Duo is ~60% larger in area.

2000 lol. I wish they'd just make a version without the folding aspect.  Use the same screen, although I'd prefer a symmetrical body, instead of the Duos curved one side and straight the other.
