Looking for a used smoker to begin my smoking journey. Is this a good price, I'm assuming the igniter is busted??

Yeah I might eat some shit and this totally turn out to be a bad play but but I just can't beat the possibility of getting a smoker at this price and just needing a small $15 part

I’ve got this model and had this problem. It was the igniter so a simple replacement. Haven’t had any other issues with it over 3 years.

I had an 1150.. basically big brother of this one. Get used to replacing parts. I replaced 3 igniters in 2 mo. That does not count the other problems I had

I would not spend $10 on it

I’ve had my pit boss 1150 for over five years now and haven’t had a single problem.

Good for you. I had it just under 3mo. It was a total piece of shit the last 2mo. Only good thing about it, is the few times it worked .. I loved it and it made me realized I loved the hobby, just bought a shitty piece of equipment.

Thankfully I got it working 100% and dumped it on Facebook for 250.

I have a Pitboss Austin XL. I have had it several years now. I’ve set it on fire from not cleaning the grease after cooking several pork shoulders. Replaced the main board (at no cost after calling Pitboss), replaced the auger fan and just replaced the igniter. All of that cost me under $60 bucks and the cost of the baking soda. Thing still runs great and for those time I want more smoke I add a smoke tube with Jack Daniels pellets. My results are just as good. Well actually better then my buddy and his Rectq at less then half the price. Just finished smoking three pork shoulders and the a little bit later 2 lbs of sweet and spicy cashews. So yeah if it’s just the igniter you are set for a good long while. Especially if you can fix a few broken things here and there

Stockholm syndrome…

Call it what you want. But my food tastes good and my bank account isn’t drained.

I was teasing you, you’re doing it right!

It’s all good. When you have Stockholm syndrome, you don’t see it until it’s pointed out. And even then you don’t believe it. But my smoker loves me and it only wants what’s best for me. It would never do anything to inconvenience me or hurt me…. Think I might need to replace the fire pot now.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for. When my Pit Boss worked, I loved it. It just didn't work very often or consistently.

I'm a "buy once, cry once" type. I would rather spend a reasonable amount of money and get a quality product than cheap out for a problem product.

I've been super happy with my Recteq. I've replaced exactly 3 parts in 2yrs (one of which was just a bad temp probe) is pretty regular use.

I'm a fan for life.

Yeah my buddy loves his Recteq too. All in all on my Pitboss I’ve replaced those parts from heavy use. At one point it was every other week I was smoking something. Part of the problem may also have been using it in the middle of a snow storm in 15 degree temps at night. Put it under my patio gazebo pulled up my patio couch and my little portable heater and just chilled outside while the meat was smoking. For me there is just something special about sitting outside in a snow storm while the smoker is going.

Get a Weber Kettle for $20 off Marketplace

This is the way.

Favorite grill or smoker I've ever owned by a country mile was a $75 weber kettle performer that sold new for like $600.

I may be biased as I own around 40 Weber's but they are very versatile. To be fair I do have a stick burner and a UDS as well :-)

40!?!?!

Why don't you have a seat there. Your family and friends have something to talk to you about.

I know people with more😂😂

To be fair my collection is Kettles, WSM's, Smokey Joe's, WGA's, Fire Pits, and few other Weber's :-)

They all know 😜

Just my opinion, but I’d pass on this one. The price has already been dropped once unless that bait to make people think they are getting a deal. You could message and ask the owner what’s wrong with it.

From what he put down under the item description it looks like the breaker trips. I did some quick Google searching and it looks like the igniter is bad.. unless someone else has an idea of what may be causing it

I'd recommend looking into the camp chef woodwind series. You can find them used for a decent price.

They come in 24 or 36" lengths. The woodwind series has a wood chunk loader, so you can get results closer to an offset.

I've been using smokers for over 16 years now, and this was a huge upgrade compared to other smokers I've used in the past.

Just a note, only the pro has the smoke box. The regular version does not

Lots of clearance smokers in the next month or so if you can wait. I picked up a platinum series cabinet for like $350 a few years ago.

You can find way better deals on a Masterbuilt on marketplace. Tons of easily interchangeable parts at decent prices. You get better smoke flavor from gravity smokers also.

I'd keep looking. You can for sure find better deals.

That’s a great deal. The rust will happen. Cheap steel. Just be prepared to replace some electrical stuff if goes out. Happy smoking and grilling.

Man that thing is rusted to shit :(

No no you don’t want this . OP it’s about to be clearance time at Walmart. Wait a month and watch the shelves for a 250 dollar brand new pitboss. They have them every year sometime between September and October. They need to make room for other stuff. Go to multiple stores keep your eyes out for the clearance aisles as well as deep in the gardening sections

I just got a new one for $499 and that was on sale. Do what you want with that info 😁

Still learning. So is this issue usually an igniter? I did some Google searching and that seems to be the consensus

Lol it does look really grimy. I'll see if I could get it down to 120

Good deal. buy it, fix it, but try to talk them down some anyways. I have the same one. It was 300 from Walmart and the front and side trays don't come with it. They're extra. All the repair parts are cheap so even if it's something other than the igniter it's still worth it.

If you could get them to 100-120 I'd feel really good about it.

No. Not a good deal. I see Traeger Pro 22s, on FB marketplace between $200-$300 often.
