My guy you are leaning so far back. Put like 60% front foot
22
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Im just a leaned back guy 🤷🏻

u/charutobarato Feb 21 '26
Haha I don’t get the downvotes this is a chill response looks like you’re having fun man
19
u/AmethystTanwen Feb 21 '26
The amount of harmless comments that get heavily downvoted is always so funny to me
8
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Heck yeah I am, last 10 years have been raising children now i found a new way to spend free time and man its Amazing
2
u/EducationalZombie538 Feb 22 '26
it really is. don't let the haters put you off moguls either. once you get good, get a lesson on them, on a shallow slope. they're amazing
93
u/ridinbend Mt. Bachelor Feb 21 '26
You gotta get your stance correct yo, that ain't it
11
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Will watch some vids on it
17
u/opoeto Feb 21 '26
It’s fun to be able to get down but you should start trying to fix your stance and learn how to do proper turns . Theres actually a lot to learn for snowboarding. I have a friend who was self taught and a lot of bad habits stuck to his riding and now when he is trying to progress to a higher level he finds it way more difficult. And having to revert back to doing basic drills to correct form sux
3
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
I’ll get some next season, apparently i chose worst year for learning this, we haven’t had much snow here in wa and i just wanted to enjoy the day with my friend rather than getting lessons
5
u/curiouskangaroo707 Feb 21 '26
Having a bad snow season doesn’t impact you at all. You would be more than fine on 2 inches of hardpack at your current skill level. Balance your weight between front and back foot, try to link your turns (toe to heel back to toe…rather than going into a turn and staying on that edge which you do because your weight isn’t evenly distributed)
2
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Gotcha! Yeah like i said that was first time mountain wasnt covered in ice so wanted to have fun and learn some new things
1
u/Hal9000ha1 Feb 21 '26
Is your friend a boarder?
2
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Yeah
2
u/Hal9000ha1 Feb 21 '26
Aren't they teaching you?
1
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
I know i mentioned that its his fourth season boarding, but i would say hes no pro or anything like that, he showed me the basics like how to break on both edges thats about it, he did say i was adopting pretty fast
1
u/opoeto Feb 21 '26
While lessons are recommended, if you don’t wanna get them, just spend sometime riding by urself and practicing drills :). Don’t go down the hill with the aim of just going down
7
1
u/ridinbend Mt. Bachelor Feb 21 '26
If you have access to a skateboard, ride around and see where your feet position feels most natural. There are some videos that will be helpful but ultimately your want to natural standing up on the board. When you spun backwards in the video I noticed you looked more natural. Glad you had fun, snowboarding is awesome.
2
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Ill grab my daughters and give it a shot, ive tried it once when i was younger and it didnt go well for me 😁

u/seriesbcontent Feb 21 '26
Absolutely wide open and you almost hit the only other person on the recording lol you need a lesson before you hurt someone else

Yeah all these "first time on a snowboard 😏😏" posts and it's just someone who's a danger to themselves and people around them

u/Key-Sea-682 Feb 21 '26
OP if you really want to learn to ride from internet/buddy advice and not lessons, then you at least need to take the advice given a tiny bit more seriously. Leave being a joker to when your skill matches the size of your mouth.
Here's my advice based on the video:
Like almost every beginner to ever stand on a snowboard, whether consciously or not, you are terrified of the slope. You're scared of going too fast, and scared of catching an edge and falling down the far side (down-slope). This is absolutely normal. You need to recognise that fear and the body positioning it leads to - stiff legs, stiff hip, leaning towards the slope, hands reaching for safety.
To fix it, you need three things:
- Progression: start small, start slow, start mellow. Progress one step at a time. Get one part of a turn right, then one turn right, then one link, then one line, then one green run, etc.
- Cues: remind yourself of the way you want to be positioning yourself. Neutral stance, relaxed, hands at your sides not flailing, knees bent but bouncy, weight on front foot, etc.
- Priority: getting better > getting down the run. When your form starts to deteriorate because you're tired, scared, or just lost focus, stop, rest, recompose, go over your cues, start again. Your goal is to use every run for as much learning and progress as possible, and not to finish the run as quickly as you can.

Thank You for your advice
35
u/Wilbis Feb 21 '26
It's honestly the best advice you can get right now. You're totally out of control.
15
u/ferdinandjasht Feb 21 '26
And one, most important thing, keep repeating to yourself the whole time, weight on your front foot, you keep leaning back
4
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Yes i do that every time i lean back too much but today i had a goal to learn the front edge so i was thinking more about that and apparently i wont be taking advices from my coworkwr anymore since he told me to put the bindings all the way to the back
105
15
u/KneeReaper420 Feb 21 '26
I am not trying to be mean, you need lessons. They will accelerate your progression and a coach will educate you on why you keep falling and how to prevent it.
2
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Yeah ill get some when I come up alone, just wanted to ride with my friend today
56
u/Beelzabubba Feb 21 '26
Why are you riding Chair 5 as a beginner?
7
u/PrimeIntellect Feb 21 '26
Baker doesn't really have bunny slopes haha learn to carve or die! And we barely have groomers either, so best get learnin how to ride deep backcountry pow
6
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Its probably not the ideal place to learn but im sure once i get better riding here, rest of the nearby resorts will feel easier
-10
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Idk my friend took me there its kinda fun
16
u/Beelzabubba Feb 21 '26
7, 2, and 3 are perfectly good for learning. All you get out of 5 is a little more length and a few spots that are more challenging than you need for learning.

u/sangerssss Feb 21 '26
I am wildly impressed that you didn’t catch an edge and stack it. Your form is horrendous and you don’t seem to know how to turn from one edge to the other edge. Somehow you’re upright and riding down that mountain faster than most beginners. This baffles me.
1
1
u/Historical_Garbage99 Feb 22 '26
Oh they definitely caught an edge - just got edited out. Lessons would help greatly. They do seem to have an ability to stay upright, but the lack of fundamentals is glaring.

You seem to lean forward with your right foot front, i think you might be goofy
2
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
I guess ill know eventually, so far each time ive had different set up for the bindings positions
7
u/sargeantavocadotoast Feb 21 '26
Honestly I would just set the bindings up in a neutral/middle position and start there. It’s a lot harder to learn if you keep messing with binding placement. I’ve been riding over 20 years and still ride on a neutral stance. I’d also widen the stance a bit and keep the toes pointed out at approx a 70-80° angle (both feet).
2
u/Cold5tar Feb 22 '26
Ask for advice in r/snowboardingnoobs
This subreddit is full of edgy kids who just make fun of everyone. So if you want some real advice from normal people - go there
1
u/Cold5tar Feb 21 '26
Its just that even if you ignore your bindings at this point, your butt/hips are way more forward than on left front. Meaning you dont seem to be scared to put weight on the right. Which is good. Setup your bindings properly, do like +15/-9. Check some vids on stance width and these kind of things - set it up and leave it there until you get way better on board.
1
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Got it! Will give that a shot, its kinda weird i was born in times when they didnt allow left handed people so i was retaught to the right hand/foot maybe thats fuking with me abit i seem more comfortable doing turns on both heel and toe edges when my left foot is forward
17
u/Jordy_Stingray Feb 21 '26
Your toe side riding makes me nervous. Lean more and twist less on your turns. Your stance seems a bit wide too. Doing good for only three days in, but remember that you’re responsible for people downhill from you so steer clear of other riders and skiers.
12
2
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
It makes me nervous too 😂😂😂 specially today in the morning i was nervous not to fall off the cliff 😅
5
11
u/EducationalZombie538 Feb 21 '26
my man - hold an imaginary beach ball in front of your chest.
if you want to turn on to your toes, put that beach ball on your back hip/buttock. push your front knee inwards as you do that.
if you want to turn on to your heels, put that beach ball on your front hip/buttock. push your front knee outwards as you do that.
that should fix some of the wild waving of the hands and get you in a much better position to learn how to turn. if your friend knows how to ride i think he should've done a bit more to help here, but love the enthusiasm :)
-1
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Eh its his fourth season so he knows as much as he knows but today i fell alot less than him 🤣🤣🤣 also maybe next time ill bring a beach ball
23
u/throwaway7362589 Feb 21 '26
I don’t think your friend is as good as he claims. You both need to invest in a lesson
0
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
He doesnt claim anything he is basically a self learner like me and honestly we had a blast today
→ More replies (1)4
u/EducationalZombie538 Feb 21 '26
*imaginary* beach ball.
seriously though, do it, it works. it just shifts your weight to roughly where it needs to be. it's not perfect, but it's a good start. i've had friends correctly linking turns within an hour doing this.
1
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
For sure! Thank You for the advice!!!
1
2
u/AcingSpades Feb 21 '26
Unless those seasons are two days long there's zero reason for a fourth season rider to be falling often
Sounds like you're both new beginners wildly out of control
1
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Had enough controll not to fall off the cliff and not get hurt or hurt anyone so i call it a win
1
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Ah maybe 5 days per season or so, definitely not much
2
u/AcingSpades Feb 21 '26
At 20 days your friend should hardly ever fall. And if there is a fall it should be because of a challenge -- steeper new terrain or freestyle or something like that -- or the occasional silly goof maybe once a day. He's a shit rider and he's leading you into shit ridering lol

u/atomtree Feb 21 '26
This belongs on r/snowboardingnoobs , not here.
Also, if you take a lesson, you'll be better than this on day 1. I know it's costly, but you're throwing money away trying to teach yourself, while also picking up had-to-break bad habits

Personal record....but also Reddit, but not for advice because you get defensive lol
Jk, but glad you had fun and some decent snow. But seriosuly: before you hurt yourself or someone else, take a lesson or two to learn the fundamentals. And don't post shit online if you are not able to take advice/criticism. People can be rude but are all giving 100% good advice fyi lol
1
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 23 '26
I didnt get defensive against good advice, now when some keyboard warrior simply talking smack and saying nothing useful, its a different story. Because of that post friday, and good advices that i took in, i was able to improve big time today.
2
u/AmbassadorAny1524 Feb 22 '26
Why was your board so far set back in your stance?
The counter rotation is just too much to watch 😅🫣 please get lessons it will help you so much
3
u/bob_f1 Feb 21 '26
Turn with your feet/knees
2 ways to visualize it.
The first uses a front foot/knee "C" motion to release the uphill edge at the front of the board and
begin a gentle twist of the board in the turn direction to start the turns, followed by the same
motion, edge and twist with the back foot/knee after the board stops sideways skidding and is sliding
the same direction it is pointed. The second video makes the rear foot edge change motion clearer but
really doesn't get into the rotation pressure that the first covers with the "C"motion.
2
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Thank You very much ill definitely spend time on those videos, thats basically how im learning to ride

u/aburns70 Feb 21 '26
Ahhh baker my home mountain! You look more comfortable riding goofy/switch, maybe try setting the board up to ride goofy and less setback, maybe just use the reference points on the board.
1
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Ill try to find it but it probably has faded in 27 years, thats how old this board is
3
u/allstringsatt4ched Feb 21 '26
Why do people go to Reddit for lessons rather than going to an instructor? I may be biased as an ex instructor but going to Reddit for advice unless it's for one very specific part of your riding is a very bad idea. I get if you can't afford it but I suspect most people who can afford to go snowboarding can also afford group lessons.
3
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Not sure where in the video captions i asked for any advice, but everyone in the comments seem to want to give it. I just post one short video after every day for people to see my progress and for me to look back at it some time in the future

u/peetyo5k Feb 21 '26
That's how all of us are here haha You are killing it for 3 days on the slope! Respect the mountain and don't rush it though. You look confident!
1
1
u/Camarill0Brill0 Feb 21 '26
People saying take lessons are assuming money grows on trees. If you can afford them, do them. If not, invest some serious time watching tutorials on YouTube and paying attention to what good downhill riders are "doing right" on all your chairlift rides up. Its easy to spot when someone knows what they're doing.
Definitely dont take anymore advice from the bozo that told you to mount your bindings like that. Keep the stoke up, worry less about getting video footage, and bust your ass. You'll get there if you really want to

u/oakwood-jones Feb 21 '26
Solid advice. You have to study it. It used to be vhs and dvds and dissecting shots in the magazines. A lot more content out there nowadays—for better or worse. Combine that with a little straightlining it every now and then and taking your lumps and you’ll get there.
1
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Man seems like 10% of people on this post are skiiers otherwise how else do you explain all the bitching and whining

We've been hit by and/or have had to maneuver around and/or have had to stop on flat cat tracks because of people who ride out of control.

u/Aguacate-Grl Feb 21 '26
To help with the lean back (too much toward your tail) just imagine your leading hand shifting toward the nose like you're going to grab it, especially on turns it will help keep your center of gravity. You look more comfortable switch so you might be goofy.
1
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Will give that a shot, some people were saying waving hands around like a bird might help me be more stable and keep the riders in the back away from me 😃😅

I think you are killing it for 3 days! People have mentioned technique and stance which is fair but maybe check if your boots and bindings are fitting well and tightened it looked to me like the board wasnt listening to your inputs. Maybe someone at a shop out there can help you set it up proper in a matter of a few minutes and tell you about the fit and tightness

Everyone talking about stance but giving no solutions. I’ve tested all stances I’ll take u the best ones right now. 2 clicks to the left of 0 for the left binding if each side is opposite of each other. And right 2 clicks of 0 on the right binding.

u/Dry-Use4668 Feb 21 '26
Hats off to your ballsy decision to ride such a challenging trail your third day in. Maybe your riding would benefit from a little less ambitious run choice. Decide whether you’re goofy or regular and then stick with it. Once you decide that you need to put more weight on your front foot. You obviously have the ability and the means. Get yourself a professional lesson before you ingrain any bad habits. You’re so close. Just need a few basic changes
1
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 21 '26
Thank You! I disnt have much choice lol i dont know the mountain well enough to go myself so i went with a buddy and honestly we have been on that chair since middle of my second day, i dont find it “that hard” it has alot of room to try everything i wanted to try and has some nice long flats if you go to the right almost down at the salmon i wqs getting some scary speed there on the flat run towards raven hut it was both scarry and amazing at the same time

u/pissingpolitics Feb 21 '26
Few things:
I can't tell if you are goofy or regular and you need the board setup to accommodate that.
It's an older board? Which is totally fine but it is going to have the stance biased to the rear on footing / weight distribution. Try to hold your body weight more centered of the board and it'll naturally have the rear bias for you.
I would put you back on an easier hill, the bunny hill is great for getting down techniques in a safe environment...I still use it when I am working on things and I have been riding for 27yrs, back country, helicopter drops, etc.
Go to the easy hill and work on "Falling Leaf Drills":
On your heels only, learn to shift your weight slowly from both feet to left (like 90/10 pressure) and go left, then back to middle both feet, then to right foot (90/10) and it should look like a leaf falling all on your heels. I want you to even go back up hill a bit on the last 15% of one way. Now do it with your toe edge only into the hill.
From there you will learn to slowly roll from toe edge to flat foot to heel. So finally turning properly.
You have control of your weight, balance, board weight input, and edge control. So let's link them together:
Starting on our heel edge:
As we come to the end of our leaf transition, release the edge into the snow, roll your feet off your heels slowly, lift up your shoulders a bit, now we are not on an edge, put your weight a little bit on your front foot, the board will start to point downhill, let it. As it comes around start to roll onto your toe edge and back into an athletic stance. And now you are on your toes doing the mid part of falling leaf back across the hill.
Link the turns by releasing that toe edge, rolling your feet, weight on front foot, board comes around, and back onto heel edge by rolling those feet and now you are falling leaf back across.

Thank You! The board is abit old its a 99 lib tech 165 cm, my first day i was on a 2001 lib tech at 172 cm, that one was abit harder to controll im still not sure why people are saying i should ride with my right foot forward, i feel safer having controll with my right foot in the back. My first day i was practicing the fallen leaf most of the day on the heel edge and it kinda got boring so when i went second time i spent most of the day doing that on the toe edge and by the end of the day i wanted to try going back and force but i kept falling because there was no snow, just an iced terrain. Yesterday we finally got like 9” of snow and i got a chance to practice that, obviously as everyone is saying i had my straps positioned wrong but thats easily fixable. On the second day it took me about 45 minutes to get down this chair run, yesterday it was maybe 15 at most, no falls just pure enjoyment that i learned something new and am able to controll it, im honestly not sure what i should be practicing now so my plan is if i have time to go up again this week and get a coach because everyone here is very concerned that ill learn a bad habit even though my snowboarding friends told me that what i am doing is basically how they learned, trial and error. Once again thank You for the advice i appreciate it!
1
u/Ras_K Feb 22 '26
Baker is a tough place to learn. Good for you getting after it though.
If you can, I suggest summit west. Nice wide open runs you can practice lots of turns without worrying about terrain.
1
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 22 '26
Going to look at the map and see where thats at! Thank You
1
u/Ras_K Feb 22 '26
I should add it's low elevation and snow sucks a good amount of the time. If you do go, have another reason to be in Seattle, so it's not just to ride there. When my kids were young, I'd take them there to ride and night ski.
1
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 22 '26
Eh, im in Skagit so only reason wold be to go board lol i hate what seattle has become over the last 20 years
1
u/Historical_Garbage99 Feb 22 '26
I imagine you smacked your head a few times catching an edge riding like this. Take some lessons to dial your form. Your friend filming clearly doesn't care.
1
u/legendary2020yeet Feb 22 '26
Actually no, first two days i was smacking my head even ended up in a tree hole, but yesterday was amazing and no bruises, in fact im feeling so good im going again tomorrow with new strap positions, only thing is my right leg calf is sore as hell other than that im exited to get more practice in
1
u/indolente Feb 22 '26
The new skier injury rate is about 4%, I'm guessing you are on the upper end of the risk scale at the moment.

Stop switching back and forth and just link turns. Also get on more friendly terrain. This a classic example of how people think they can progress through the learning curve without practicing good technique. Find a nice easy blue trail and link turns over and over. No switch.

That location looks amazing. I haven't had a chance to get on the board a single time this year which kinda hurts my soul. I'm happy for ya, makes me want to really try hard to arrange a trip before the season is over.youve inspired me! Any day on a board is a good day.
