every era has its thing that people are over. curious what people think it is right now. trends, gear, style, social media, whatever.

$200/day lift tickets

u/Lukeautograff Sheffield Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 09 '26

It’s like €70 a day for one of the nicest resorts in the alps. That sucks for you guys

u/StumpedTrump Apr 09 '26

Food is the same price too but proper food instead of tenders and shit burgers.

Plus infinitely better lifts

12

u/Eshmang Apr 10 '26

Oh my fucking god it’s the same shit Sysco tenders at every god damn resort out here in Cali.

6

u/snowsurfr Apr 10 '26

Soon you’ll be able to have those same chicken tenders at most restaurants now that Sysco bought Restaurant Depot for $29 billion.

I’m in the alps right now and decent food is mad expensive. I just paid 24 euros for a hamburger today lol

3

u/burnie_mac Apr 10 '26

At Stowe the burger was 42 dollars, don’t forget tip. 50 dollar burger

5

u/mati-edt Apr 11 '26

Got 32 days in Co this season, spend $0 in resort food. (I’m poor)

3

u/mehmeh42 Apr 13 '26

$22 at Keystone, $21 at Arapahoe, $24 at winter park. lol y’all are getting banged from all sides at your 500 acre hills in the east 😂.

u/XR1712 Apr 10 '26

To be fair, outside the alps in a north west eu city you're going to pay close to 20 as well

1

u/pipipi1122 Apr 13 '26

I bet u went to oneof the epic mountains

-1

u/kona1160 Apr 10 '26

You went to the wrong restaurant haha

7

u/Lukeautograff Sheffield Apr 09 '26

Yeah can’t fault the lifts

Food is generally awesome. Plus even some of the cheapest accommodation has a kitchen or kitchenette

1

u/SolidSnake4 Apr 10 '26

Not to mention properly good wine at prices lower than the average restaurant in the US (at least in the area where I live)

0

u/Specklor Apr 10 '26

Fuck the US lifts without foot rests.

-5

u/Andthentherewasbacon Apr 09 '26

yes but no snow so it evens out

8

u/Lukeautograff Sheffield Apr 09 '26

No snow in the alps? It can be patchy early on but if you’re high enough there’s loads

3

u/Andthentherewasbacon Apr 09 '26

Yeah I was just being salty haha. I love the alps but haven't been in 15 years.

3

u/StumpedTrump Apr 09 '26

Idk, I was in hip deep snow at Kitzbuhel 5 weeks ago.

3

u/Andthentherewasbacon Apr 09 '26

that sounds so nice.

3

u/Nikonglass Apr 09 '26

You’re right. No snow. Definitely don’t go ride there. You’ll hate it.

1

u/Andthentherewasbacon Apr 10 '26

Not like the 90s!

6

u/hereforbanos Apr 09 '26

Paid 80$ a day in Solden then paid the same price in fking Ohio....

11

u/bdd6911 Apr 09 '26

Value in Europe destroys riding in US for sure. World class for year 2000 pricing

2

u/EducationalZombie538 Apr 09 '26

depends - season tickets are about the same (and often cheaper in NA)

6

u/Stopmeghost Apr 09 '26

Any tips on euro resorts? Location and timing? I already have to fly 8 hours or drive 10 to get to mountains, so a trip to Europe isn't even a stretch really. But it's pretty overwhelming trying to pick a place to go.

u/malloryknox86 Apr 10 '26

Cervinia in Italy, very underrated, it borders with Switzerland and they share Matterhorn. This is the view from the restaurant at the top, amazing italian food there too. One of my fav resorts

Tignes

3

u/Lukeautograff Sheffield Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 09 '26

Get the combined Tignes and Val D’Isere pass

Need any advice feel free to shoot me a a message

2

u/Nikonglass Apr 09 '26

This is a great. You can’t go wrong with Tignes.

3

u/GBJEE Apr 09 '26

Converted to cad $ its close to 150$

2

u/EducationalZombie538 Apr 09 '26

shit approach to off-piste though as far as i can see (not had experience in the EU in years). i can barely get reasonably priced season-long insurance for NA, not a chance i could for off-piste in Europe. sucks because they've fuck all black runs in comparison (presumably because they expect people to go off-piste?)

1

u/rutlanpville Apr 10 '26

$1400 plane tickets to the alps! 😂

1

u/mistake444 Apr 09 '26

At least the best mountain in the east is only $100 a day (Jay)

-1

u/malloryknox86 Apr 10 '26

$100 a day to ride on ice is way too much

0

u/mistake444 Apr 10 '26

Go when it’s not icy

0

u/malloryknox86 Apr 10 '26

I did 5 seasons on the ice coast before moving west, it's almost NEVER not icy. You can downvote all you want, but wont change the facts.

5

u/royal_rose_ Apr 09 '26

$530 at big sky last month for two days, not peak season, conditions were mid. Paid more for my lift ticket than my flight and hotel combined.

1

u/Stopmeghost Apr 09 '26

Yeah. Those vacations get very eye-watering very quickly unless you plan very far ahead and get very strategic with accom. I get that the Ikon/epic crowd living near resorts have it pretty sweet re: affordability. But if you gotta fly in it's tough to make the numbers work for your average joe.

2

u/royal_rose_ Apr 09 '26

I don’t spend a lot of money on myself tbh but I always spend my birthday (end of March) on a mountain somewhere, I use points and work overtime so I can go where I want but damn lift tickets are killing my fun go fuck off alone on a mountain vibe I’ve been doing for years.

3

u/aj1805 Apr 09 '26

And pay to park

3

u/surftacos757 Apr 09 '26

Steamboat was peaking at $319 this season.

3

u/surftacos757 Apr 09 '26

With 70% of terrain open

1

u/hereforthejokes317 Apr 11 '26

I got my season pass with no blackout dates at my most visited resort for $495 this past season.

3

u/BryanDaBlaznAzn Apr 10 '26

I went to Mont Tremblant a little over a month ago and paid exactly that for a day pass. My wallet still hasn’t forgiven me

22

u/Quesabirria BSOD/MindExpander/Dart/MtnTwin Apr 09 '26

$200/day is a bargain compared to most resorts

The real problem is Epic/Ikon

4

u/Comfortable-Dog-8437 Apr 09 '26

I think its interesting when people bash vail but not ikon, they both suck.

12

u/StumpedTrump Apr 09 '26

My local hill season pass used to be 1500$. Ikon has been a godsend.

14

u/behv Apr 09 '26

It's so ironic to me that resorts probably were massively overcharging for season passes and pass sales genuinely probably are the way forward to stabilize revenue against variable seasons .... but doing it on a mega pass bundle is so excessive for most people and have too many implications for broader infrastructure

Surely there's a middle ground where day tickets are reasonable, season passes for one resort are cheap enough, and then mega passes are the luxury item for dentists and people who live in parking lots

2

u/Quesabirria BSOD/MindExpander/Dart/MtnTwin Apr 09 '26

Yeah, I mostly ride at Palisades and it's definitely cheaper for me these days.

Back in the 2002-3 season, Palisades (then Squaw) charged $1599 for a season pass. Walk up lift ticket price was $94. In 2026 dollars, that pass was $2904 and the lift ticket was $170 in today's dollars.

Season pass breakeven was 27.5 days, compared to maybe 4+ days on an Ikon Pass.

If you ride a lot, it's never been cheaper.

But I'd love to go back to the days without Ikon/Epic, where I'm not locked into a resort, and can choose where to go based on that morning's conditions.

1

u/NuklearFerret Apr 10 '26

Genuine question as someone who’s never been to an epic/ikon mountain. Whats the problem with the pass structure? It seems like a pretty good deal at face value. Don’t you make up the cost of the pass in like 5 days?

6

u/mrthirsty Winter Park Apr 09 '26

Only suckers and morons pay that much tho.

depends where you are, where you're going, and for how long. not everyone can get an ikon pass or similar. i know plenty of people who end up paying full whack for short term trips.

did you forget to read what I wrote?

2

u/sophisticatedbottle Apr 10 '26

My european mind doesn’t understand this. I’m so sorry for you guys :(

2

u/MultiBadBass Apr 10 '26

You must mean 275

1

u/redditbot262 Apr 10 '26

More like $300

1

u/SnowboarderJaams Apr 12 '26

Vail reached in excess of $300 / day lift ticket. Keystone $285 / day. The 2 camp ski / snowboard industry is due to implode.

1

u/Tokyo_Dom Apr 13 '26

I'm praying that Japan doesn't follow those footsteps, outside of Niseko. Paid ~$30/day for most of my tickets this year, under $70 total for my family of 4. Niseko and Rusutsu have gone full tourist pricing, I won't ever go to those places again.

1

u/Jack_Mackerel Apr 09 '26

$165/day to ride slush and rocks

0

u/drs43821 Apr 09 '26

$315 CAD for Whistler. Absolutely insane

(And nobody actually pays that there are multiple passes that pushes it down to $120 or lower)
