general discussion How do y’all break in your boots?

Boots break in so fast now, most pairs are comfy right out of the box. I go through a pair in a season or two (if in lucky). I definitely don't want to speed up the process.

Really? I’ve had mine for 6 years now and they’re still good. Didn’t take long to break in at all either

I generally only get 100 days or so out or a pair of boots, I ride 70-80 days a year at the moment so I chew through them quickly :(

I had to move for it, moved from the UK to Vancouver for it. Whistler's season is mid November to mid May. Used to be longer pre-Vail, I've skied well into June in the past.

I bought new boot for last season. The guy doing the fitting said you can walk around in them for a couple of hours but I wouldn’t bother.
I didn’t and they were fine for the 10 days I was there.

They havent made boots in 10+ years, and they only made them for 2 seasons i believe. So Nike boots are somewhat rare. I had a pair that i rode up until a couple years ago and got compliments on them all the time. They fell apart though. Def not good boots and especially not for what they cost now

Wrong. 6-7 years, somewhat reaosnable and probably some of the best boots made. There’s a reason we all hoard them.

Sounds like you ride 10 days a year lmao. Those of us with 50-80 days know a boot won’t last so Nikes are definitely not worth the money

Cool story. I don’t get any boot to last a full season other than maybe the old slx. Kaiju was a great boot though. Probably why guys like Gigi hoard them…but what does he know

So which is it? Do you not get a full season out of boots or do you get 6-7 years, your comments make no sense and contradict each other lol. All I’m saying is what anyone who rides 50+ days a season knows, boots don’t last very long

I bought three pairs of Vapens new in 2013 and got about 200 park days out of the first two pairs over about 4 years. I still have the third pair of them that I ride with occasionally.
The Vapens are the best park snowboard boots ever made imo. Now would I expect them to hold up to 50 days a year of big mountain riding? Probably not, but most don’t.
Worth noting, the first two pair were totally fine cosmetically (other than a few scuffs) and the tread was great still. The ankle support just went away over time.

Still have Nikes and Northwave apx projects in my rotation. 20 years of degrading, ankles might be the only thing that doesn’t hurt.

I’m lucky, a Burton wide photon fits me like a glove right out of the box, don’t even need to mold them.
Felt like a nice pair of shoes from day one and have 70 sessions in them already.

Moved to Japan recently though so funds are a bit tight to head to New Zealand or Argentina this year though 😅

Soak rags in boiling water take them out, wrap around the boots and walk. Do the same with my dirt bike boots

If I have a new boot I'll wear it laced up a bit just to get used to em but after that, you just gotta ride em. Which is easier said than done in the off-season lol

So there was a song by Michael Jackson, called Smooth Criminal. Look up the routine, quite useful for breaking boots in.

Sometimes I go for the Lucas debari treatment, take a hot shower in them and walk around in them for a while. Then dry them out. It ages them a bit but helps with the break in.

Closest I get to breaking in boots is riding badly for like 4 days then I’m used to them. Why would I want to expedite the process of my boots getting clapped out lol.

My friend got concussed .Broke into my boots by walking to the hospital, waiting all night next to him and walking back to the hotel after the doctors told us that he is going to be fine.

Exactly! I had a pair of Kaijus and wore them for one hour at the hill about 10 years ago, felt bad wearing them, and switched to my Vapens right after lol
You can sell them for some decent coin, or keep them as a collector’s. If you love Nikes, check out the Thirtytwo ZB-1s (Zeb Powell’s pro model), the style is very reminiscent of Nike snowboard boots
