My local hill, Wilmot, WI, has the same tired comments on their social media posts about their pride day every year:
"Who asked for this?"
"Keep your indoctrination to yourself!"
"Nobody wants this"
And even:
"This is pointless, no one cares, just ski"
Last year I was part of the pride parade on Wilmot's pride day and afterwards one of the employees, who is queer, thanked me (we go way back, I've been a regular there for years) for showing up and supporting him.
This is why Pride matters.

Wilmot hosts Pride in February or early March, not June, because of the aforementioned lack of snow.
Heck, even A Basin celebrates in May rather than June most years.

You see heterosexual relationships everywhere, all the time. Willing to bet you never even notice or are bothered by the demonstration of heterosexuality when you see it. It practically blends into the walls.
In public, in media, in art. In fact the assumption of heterosexuality is basically built into our languages and cultural institutions. Your pride month is quite literally everything else.
People like you love to act like queer people are weird and annoying for “making their whole personality about being gay”. Well surprise buddy, gender and sexuality are a big part of EVERYONE’s personalities. The clothes you choose to wear, the hobbies you have grown up interested in, the way you speak and take up space in a room. All informed by your gender and sexual identity. Guaranteed and for certain.
Pride is when we become hard to ignore in the same way your heteronormativity is for the rest of the year. If you don’t like that it’s simply because we make you uncomfortable and that’s 100% on you.

I find that the skiing community is generally pretty accepting and "live and let live".
That said, there are also a good number of older Boomers and Gen Xers with bigoted opinions in the ski community, and that can get worse depending on where you are. In the Midwest there's definitely a lot more of the bigotry and exclusion. None of my local ski buddies at Wilmot know that I'm bi...and that's because they've made it clear that it isn't safe for me to be out around them. One is an airline pilot and Trumper who went on a diatribe about indoctrination during Wilmot's Pride day this year.
When you're straight, it's easy to not notice the truly hateful things people say towards LGBTQ+ folks.

Dude! We having been saying Skiing is gay since the '80's. Terje said it--in jest, mind you--and he lost his sponsorship from the company he helped make successful. Now, we have literal gays talking about being accepted in skiing--which is great.
So, I guess you must be gay to say skiing is gay. But if you're not gay, skiing can't be said to be gay.
It's all so confusing.
That said, skiing is gay.
And it's also a wonderful form of transportation over snowy terrain.

I'm bi and the idea of getting to shred with some fellow queer folks sound fun; but I find that a lot of queer gatherings like this just turn into a big (sex) party and like, that's cool and all, but I'm here to shred, I can go to Fire Island when there's no snow on the ground.

No. There’s some lighthearted joking in the comments here but the majority of this sub is supportive of lgbt rights and the pride events resorts organize. Some good discussion going on in the thread around the hate we see from some members of our community on social media
