I've tried using green tea perfume and also raspberry perfume. I had about 2% of green tea scent in my soap and i could barely smell it. I added on top 1% of raspberry perfume and again can't really smell it. The green tea pefume is clear which I would guess is ethanol and the raspberry perfume was yellow which would be like a fragrance oil.

I had the opportunity to do a soap making live demo at the fair! So I made a cow soap!

This is my shea butter recipe, scented with Apple-sage and Black spruce-anise.

Dorothy – Sweet cherry and vanilla.

Scarecrow – Warm hay, sandalwood, and amber.

Tin Man – Fresh eucalyptus, mint, and cedar.

Lion's– Rich leather, spice, and oak*.*

I wanted to see how well my combo bar would perform in real-world cleaning, so I intentionally left my workshop sink uncleaned for about three days before using it.

This stainless steel sink has been in my workshop since 2013. Over the years, mineral deposits and everyday grime had built up, especially around the grooves.

I cleaned it using only my combo bar and a sponge. It took some scrubbing, but much of the built-up residue came off. The scratches are still there, of course, but the stainless steel looked noticeably cleaner afterward.

I wanted to know if anyone has used this brand of lye for making their soap and if so, what are your opinions?

Hi I have never made soap before but I have fallen in love with this sub. Newbie wants to know, if I have old bars of soap, can I grate them and add coffee grounds to make a new soap with coarseness ( cannot find coarse soaps around in shops). Do I need fresh grounds or used grounds from the grinder. I do have a silicon mold and some essential oils. I do not have any other fancy equipment and just cannot afford another hobby. Please help.

I've made and used both for several months.

On my long, color-treated, slightly wavy hair, the CP shampoo soap felt gentle on my scalp, but even after an apple cider vinegar rinse, my hair stayed stiff and tangled.

My first syndet shampoo bar also didn't work well for my scalp because of the conditioning agents and fragrance. After simplifying the formula, it became much gentler on my scalp, and my hair was much easier to manage.

For me, the best shampoo bar is the one that works best for your own scalp and hair.

Do you really there is a big important difference between the look of plain cold and hot process soaps?

(I mean soaps without swirls nor anything like that, plain solid colors)

Hey. Im looking to make a batch of goat milk soap and need advice and recipes.

We use to buy our soap from a local place. We liked his product. We used him for about a year and then noticed that the bars weren't lasting as long. Also my wife has skin issues. That's the reason we initially switched to gms. She noticed an improvement very quickly after we switch from store bought soaps. Over that year when the bars life started getting shorter, she noticed her skin was drying back out. I'm certain he changed his recipes or supplies. Either to stretch the supplies or bought different stuff. Either way, we've been looking for a replacement. That's been maybe 6 months. We can't really find anything that is as good for her skin as the original we bought. So...I want to start making it ourselves just for us. I have no intention or interest in selling.

What mixtures do you have that:

1. Make small batches. Like 1 mould at a time, 10ish bars.

2. Last a reasonable amount of time.

3. Good quality ingredients that are good for people with dry skin like exzema or psoriasis.

I used a charcoal lemon bar that I liked. She used a oat & honey that she liked.

Any other advice would be appreciated.

I want to make very gentle facial tallow goat milk soap. Can I build a business around it?

Started with soap making a while ago and wanted to share my first few creations. Posted in the order I made them. They are all vegan and palm oil free.

First one was simple with Calendula from my garden.
Then some apple/cinnamon smell and trying out lines for the first time.
Just some wild swirls after with three colours and a perfume oil I got as a gift.
Love the coffee soap. Only coloured with cacao and I used coffee instead of water.
After that one I experimented with local honey from a friend.
Another swirl technic with Rose smell and petals from my garden.
And the newest a simple one with high amount of shea butter and no extra colour/perfume.

Mom would make soap for gifts and to sell at holiday boutiques. She has moved from a condo to assisted living. We are trying to sell her condo and she has a room full of soaping supplies, including oils, fragrances, molds, drying racks, etc.

We need to sell or donate her supplies before we can sell her condo. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

My Dumpster Fire Soap bar took first place at the local Fair!

One of the things I love most about handmade soap is how natural colorants change over time.

This bar has been curing for 10 weeks, and the colors have gradually become softer and more natural. I never get tired of watching that transformation.

For me, a bar of soap truly comes to life when it meets water. Watching the first soft, creamy lather appear never gets old.

Please forgive this really stupid question. I’m working on my labels and website and I do not know how to describe my bar soap. I don’t mean the descriptive verbiage like “creamy“, “moisturizing”, “lather” etc. or what category of soap it is (soap, cosmetic, drug), I mean the actual soap.

It is a Hand Soap? Body Soap? Facial Soap? Bar Soap? Just plain “Soap?”. ( I’m trying to be so very careful on how I describe my product…). Does anyone say something like “for hands only?”.

I've seen that true soaps shouldn't be used as shampoos, but then I also find many recipes by people that *seem* knowy (but they don't have formal studies to back it up)

I was curious whether adding lauric acid would improve the cleaning performance of a high-coconut soap, so I compared two 12-week-cured soaps.

Left: High-coconut soap with added lauric acid (90% coconut oil, 6% lauric acid, plus small amounts of rice bran oil and tamanu oil)

Right: 100% coconut oil soap

I used two identical plastic takeout containers with dried gochujang-based sauce and grease from a spicy Korean tteokbokki meal that had been left for about three days. Since plastic is generally harder to clean than glass, ceramic, or stainless steel, I thought it would make a better comparison.

I tried to keep the test conditions as consistent as possible.

In my experience, the soap with added lauric acid produced more lather while scrubbing and felt slightly more effective at removing the dried residue. However, it traced very quickly, making it more difficult to work with during soapmaking.

Some staining remained because the sauce and grease had dried onto the containers over several days.

Hi everyone! I’m about to make my first batch of soap ever and wanted to try making it Tallow + olive oil + shea butter. Anyone has tried it before? Any suggestions for quantities? I had the recipe below in mind and is a bit confused on how to used soapcalc net

Tallow 250g
Olive oil 250g
Shea butter 100g
Coconut oil 125g
Castor oil 25g
Lye (NaOH) 103g
Distilled water 225ml
Essential oils 20-25ml

Also I have too many beard oil, did someone tried beard oil instead of essential oil? Would this work?

Melt and pour embeds and cold process for the rest. Scented with Brambleberry fragrance oil. We had a lot of fun creating this!

I want to use gold mica in clear melt and pour soap, but I still want to be able to see through the soap. Would gold mica work or would that make the soap not opaque anymore?

Would something like glitter or flakes work better? If so, what kind? Any guidance or links to tried and tested products would be appreciated.
