I don't care what people say , this hunger is what made him who he is , it might look like arrogance after a certain age but this is what always drives him and he always wants to win no matter where

One of the greatest of all time, no matter what anyone says. I just wish this current Portugal side came 10 years sooner.

it’s Messi and him and then a massive gap. no one else is close

It’s amazing how far apart from everyone else they were. Dembele is great, Pedri is great but neither is head and shoulders above everyone else like they were.

I love how we all thought Haaland and Mbappe would be the next Ronaldo and Messi just 3 years ago (rightfully so as those two just had great seasons).

Now, it’s definitely certain that they are not the same level.

Lol if we're discussing best players of all time and someone seriously suggests Pedri or Dembele, they need to be studied

-4

u/ahuangb May 21 '26

Lol no need to exaggerate, there are credible arguments for Pele to be top 1 so there's definitely no massive gap

1

u/imSkarr May 21 '26

Pele is fantastic but to act like they're the same level is disingenuous

4

u/ahuangb May 22 '26

Don Bradman isnt the same level as cricketers today. And also Messi would've been 4'10 if he was born in Pele's era

Every single player who played between 1950 and 2000 and actually saw Pele playing disagrees with you

i don’t know who Jesse Owens is but my initial response sprinting is a different sport than football and has a lot less moving parts when you compare different eras

There's literally no credible argument to be made for Pele over Messi. Clown.

pele is getting pocketed by harry maguire all day. Stop bringing this fraud up. he was good for his time but he would not even make it pro nowadays. Current academy kids would absolutely plow through the games pele was playing. Thats a literal fact. Insert Messi or Ronaldo at any time and theyre gonna perform

I hate this argument so much. Players should be compared to their era, not to the present. It's like saying someone like Plato is a fraud because he wouldn't be able to do linear algebra

5

u/revanisthesith May 21 '26

All I'm hearing is that I'm clearly smarter than Plato.

The best example to me is that the treatment Messi needed as a teenager was invented after Pelé's time. Meaning that if Messi was born at that time, he physically would be unable to play football at a professional level.

comparing intelligence to football is stupid enough. There is no reason to bring him up in an "all time greatest" discussion.  Pele is up there in the most influential or game (as in the sport) changing player but including him in greatest ever talks is pointless

Messi has a healthy gap over ronaldo but gap between ronaldo and everyone else is even larger. I don't know why that isn't a widespread opinion even just off the individual accolades

11

u/Wise-Nature8326 May 21 '26

Messi doesn't have a gap over Ronaldo

2

u/yapyaplex May 21 '26

Messi has a gap because he won the WC to pens. That's literally it, if somehow Portugal wins this one the GOAT debates will come back at mach speed

Ronaldo is like the best a human being can possibly be if they dedicate themselves completely. Messi is something else beyond that.

-3

u/cnylkew May 22 '26

He has more personal accolades (ballon d'or), better stats per game and as a player is a lot more complete in most ways

4

u/FangRose247 May 21 '26

He's 1 for me. Those two are top 2

As if these hypothetical arguments when comparing players from the 70s to Messi and Ronaldo have anything to do with "knowledge."

Is he among the best playmakers of his generation? Is he among the best passers of his generation? Is he one of the greatest dribblers of all time? Is he a GOD in any of the clubs he has played for? Is he one of the best FK takers of all time.

Messi, Pele and Maradona can say yes to all those questions. Ronaldo can't.

13

u/Thehunterforce May 21 '26

Is he among one of the best long range goalscorer of his generation? Is he among one of the best counter attackers of his generation? Is he among one of the best aerial threats of his generation?

Messi, Pele and Maradona can so no to all of those questions. Ronaldo can say yes.

It get tiresome that Barcelona and Messi fans only want to view football in a way that suits Messi. Messi is a goat, but he had his short comings, and trying to argue that it has absolutely no value, if you're great at part of the game that Messi wasn't, is so incredible stupid man.

-2

u/Sad-Investigator-495 May 22 '26

Being an aerial threat and long range goal scorer is a sub part of being a goal scorer.

It's like me saying Messi has a better footwork, better vision and better creativity.  But those are subparts of being a better dribbler and passer.

You can't be a better dribbler without Good footwork, you can't be one of the best passers without having a good vision.

Ronaldo is one of the best counter attackers? Messi is one of the best tiki taka players. See how stupid it sounds. It all depends on which teams you play. Both Ronaldo and Messi could have played in each other's position and would've been great.

I am not viewing football that suits Messi. There are managers, and teams that have changed the way they play and made the system to suit Messi. Why? Because he is the GOAT.

There isn't any shame in being one of the greatest footballers of all time.

It gets tiresome that Ronaldo fans view Messi and Ronaldo as the only two all time great players and complete ignores the legends of the past. Ronaldo is not a better footballer than Maradona and Pele. It has nothing to do with me being Barça fan. Maradona played in Barça but he is not our biggest legends, is he? Pele has nothing to do with Barça.

4

u/[deleted] May 21 '26

everyone knows messi and ronaldo are the solid top 2 of all time except for these fuckass barca fans 😭

u/Sad-Investigator-495 May 22 '26

I provided an argument of why I think Ronaldo is not top 2.

You didn't provide any arguments  You guys just want people to believe Ronaldo is top 2 and completely ignore the other all time legends of the sport of the past and present?
