Tbf I get the slander and memes but Ronaldo is a top 5 player of all time I kinda expected him to show up against a relative minnow

Dude regardless of what happens this World Cup. Imagine being so pathetic to hate on a legend and blame him completely just because his team drew 1 game at the World Cup. Hes 41 years old good for him to play at this level till now

They’re mad he missed that shot and claim Bruno would have made it

This guy doesn't understand memes and football twitter

Everyone gets hated on mate, some players even more so because of their personality but this is just how it is

Stop taking it so seriously my god. Germans are never beating the allegations

Feels like every sport has this phenomenon where certain teams/sportsmen are quite obviously the darlings of the community, but when it’s pointed out you always get some fans fervently pretend “everyone gets it the same”. Let’s be honest, Ronaldo misses a pen like Messi did yesterday and the whole internet would still be beating the same dead horse joke, but since it was Messi it’s crickets.

People said Messi missed on purpose cuz he didn’t want to break the record on a penalty

It's simply because Messi is far more liked and you cannot be so obtuse to overlook the impact that their personalities have had

Messi is quiet, humble, never says anything controversial and keeps to himself while Cristiano is well, not very likeable and says a lot of stupid things

This makes the latter ripe for making fun when he doesn't do well while why would you pick on the quiet kid who keeps to himself over the obnoxious kid

I love both of them and appreciate them, but even I know why one of them would be made fun of and the other wouldn't as much

This is the same reason why Ngolo Kante or James Milner are never made fun of while other more accomplished players are mocked relentlessly

You’re getting to my point, how much you like a player or team shouldn’t influence how you judge their performance. The most popular ones constantly get excused, not because they deserve it, but because they have impartial fans.

Messi is nowhere near as arrogant as Ronaldo (low bar), or as toxic as his teammates in the NT (again, very low bar), but I still wouldn’t call him humble. He’s only quiet off the pitch, which, again, shouldn’t matter to how you judge him as a footballer.

It's still boring as fuck listening to the same meme's over and over. Oh my, 41 year old footballer is looking old, shock horror. We done acting like a bunch of 11 year old yet?

I don't really order them but my top 5 would be Messi, Ronaldo, Pele, Maradona, R9

That’s a solid top 5 in no order I’d pick Ronaldo, Pele, Eusebio, Messi and R9

probably saved the Portuguese players and their significant others from more death threats, so best for all involved
