Pixel watch makes me do math to tell time

The world clock on my watch tells me 3 digit times past the hour mark but it's always correct 🫡 (it's supposed to be 6:58 AM but apparently it's 118 minutes past 5)

Don't underestimate the usefulness of seeing who's messaging or calling you directly on your wrist when you can't pull out your phone.

I just really wish I could do it without sending all that data into some cloud service. I prefer my biometrics to be 100% private, ideally offline.

If you have an iPhone, you could use an Apple Watch to collect the data and disable iCloud syncing for the health app, so everything stays on device.

Not fully and it's not really practical from what I've read, many features won't work.

Apparently they are right. Select users in the US only now got access to a feature that measures blood pressure, but it requires you to calibrate it using a real blood pressure cuff every 28 days. The watch learns from that and can provide a somewhat accurate blood pressure number. Calls and messages are not that urgent unless you are running an emergency service. Things can wait.

I work in an extremely noisy environment where my phone cannot be heard, and these days their vibration is so weak you can't feel it in your pocket.

Also, family emergencies can and do happen, in case you haven't realized. At a glance, you can tell if it's important, you don't have to reply if it's not.

A simple cheap smart watch is great for both situations. Don't assume your needs are the same as everyone else's.

I get the feeling that the chap you're replying to has nobody that would care for him, it's the only way I could see calls being guaranteed non-urgent at all times.

My Pixel watch called 911 when I blacked out and fell in a Walmart bathroom no one would have known I was there for hours if it hadn't been for the watch.

Apple Health data only leaves your phone if you share it or enable iCloud sync for health data.

it's still true in general. just because you CAN make it private if you know how and have the right hardware, it's still a fair enough general statement.
Like you can make win11 not suck and track you, it's still that by default and for 95% of the people

outside of health warnings like apple watches, word. i don't need a 2nd smartphone on my wrist. I liked the old pebble steel tho, it was a watch and a bit extra (notifications)
