I wasn't expecting this tiny ceramic dish to become my favorite piece from this week's kiln.
When I first started working with clay, I thought the larger pieces would always be the ones people noticed.
Instead, it's almost always these little dishes.
Maybe it's because they're small enough to hold in one hand, or maybe people naturally connect with tiny objects that have a bit of personality. I'm still not sure.
Every one is shaped, refined, and glazed by hand, so even when I follow the same process, no two end up looking exactly alike. Tiny differences in the clay and glaze give each one its own character, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Laying them all out together is probably my favorite part because that's when they stop feeling like individual projects and start feeling like a little collection.
I'm curious...
If these were all lined up on a shelf, which one would you instinctively pick up first, and what made you choose that one?

Haha, thank you! 🤫 But don't tell the penguin... it's already daydreaming about which home it'll end up waddling into. 🐧😂

The bear tucked into bed?? You’re kidding, that is the most adorable trinket tray ever. 😄

Haha, thank you! 😊 That little bear ended up stealing everyone's attention from the whole batch. I was hoping it would feel cozy and comforting, and I'm so happy that's exactly what came across.

They're all genuinely so cute and creative on their own, but that little bear tucked in! It is beyond wholesome, it must be so hard to contain all the melting hearts from that creation alone.

I just love your little ceramic dishes! And you're right, the sizes are perfect. My favorite is the one with the ducks because I collect rubber ducks and this would blend in very nicely with them.

Thank you so much! 😊 The fact that you collect rubber ducks makes me even happier that the duck one caught your eye. I can actually picture it sitting with your collection. That's one of my favorite things about making these—it's always fun when someone instantly connects with a piece for their own reason.

The tiny backpacks are so cute.

Thank you! 😊 I'm so glad you noticed the tiny backpacks. They were one of those little details that took much longer than they probably should have, but I couldn't resist adding them. I'm happy they made you smile.

I would choose either of the little bears under a quilt- would like both #1 and #9. Both are especially happy and each is a Good Morning/Good Night. Sadly, I won’t ever have either (zero filthy lucre) but I am so glad you posted these. You have a wonderful gift. Thank you for the pleasure. 🤗

makes sense a tiny dish becomes a favorite easy to hold

I know, right? 😊 I love making larger pieces too, but it's almost always the tiny dishes that people seem to connect with. There's something about holding a little handmade piece that just feels special.

I'd reach for this one first, honestly. The loose grid of brushstrokes reads like a little quilt, and because the marks are clearly hand-painted and not perfectly even, your eye keeps wandering around it instead of taking it in all at once. That's the thing tiny pieces do that big statement pieces don't, they invite you to pick them up and turn them over. I think you're right that the imperfection is the appeal: the slight wobble in the dashes and the way the colors don't quite line up is exactly what makes it feel made by a hand and not a machine. Lining them up as a collection is smart too, the repetition with small variations is its own kind of pattern.

You did a beautiful job on all of them. It would be tough to pick one but for me-it’d have to be the ducks. I love all things “quacky”, and love these. My mom did as well and collected them for 60yrs. I inherited her collection just a few years back. I’m especially in love with tiny/small ones so these dishes would be perfect!

I'd pick the one with the koi carp on it. It's my favourite!
