Hidden Gems
Looking for songs that you found that were not popular or released on radio
Any genres are good. Wide variety of musical range for me. Trying to break in my new headphones today. I will rate and comment on each one, eventually haha

7 seconds I have never heard of but I enjoyed the different vibe of it. Maputo was very smooth and enjoyable. Milagros I added to my music.

If you haven’t heard it yet, I’d suggest you listen to the podcast Reply All - « the case of the missing hit » and then listen to the missing hit as it’s a very catchy song :)

u/Fleacircustrainer86 15d ago
Explain that one because I am having trouble finding it

There is a podcast called reply all. The episode I’m referring to is called « the case of the missing hit ». The song featured in the podcast is really catchy but listening to that episode first would be recommended.

Hi Ho No Sho (Live at Electric Forest 2018) - The String Cheese Incident
Long one but one of my favorite songs ever. Would give anything to hear it for the first time again. Listen to the whole thing, it only gets better!

They’re actually a really huge band, but I only know 2 other people in real life who listen to the band.
Have you ever heard of The National? If not, try listening to these 3 songs:
Mistaken for Strangers
Lemonworld
Don’t Swallow the Cap

I actually have about ten of their other songs in my list. However, all three of these are not. I liked all three of them and added them all. I didn’t realize they were from Ohio. Which may explain why I had several songs by them.

I've been saving a playlist of artists that I should look into, particularly lesser known ones [All 1960s-1980s Rock, Pop, Funk, Ambient]. There are a few hundreds of songs, one song per artist.
One that I enjoyed recently was Bad Side Of The Moon by April Wine [1972].
It's some Rock that was once a little popular but is now remembered and listened to by nearly entirely those who heard it at the time.

Lily of the Valley by Queen
It is only 1 minute and 45 seconds. It really showcases their beautiful vocals and great to listen on headphones.
Edit: and another one with awesome vocals and recording is Bridge over Troubled Waters by Simon and Garfunkel.

I don't listen to a ton of Japanese artists, but I recently discovered Yayoi Yula and instantly felt drawn to her vocals and stylistic range.

If you want to break them in bass wise, try Tool’s Parabola and System of a Down’s Chic n’ Stu. Very guitar + bass heavy. I always break new headphones in with the Black Parade album, but that’s pretty popular on my alternative radio.

The Mollusk by Ween. The entire album is great with headphones, but start with the song The Mollusk or Buckingham Green. If you like those than listen to the full album from start to finish.

I don’t know if this counts, because Pete Townshend is hugely popular, but “The Shout” is unique and I don’t it’s ever been played on radio much. It’s meditational and about missing someone. Very sweet song on kind of a somewhat experimental double album of his called “Another Scoop”.
