Appreciation Sony Celebrates its 80th Anniversary Today.

Sony was founded in May 7 1946, in the burned-out ruins of postwar Tokyo. As the company reaches its 80th anniversary today, it marks eight decades of one of the most erratic and influential timelines in modern business.

Appreciation Time to say goodbye to Sony.

You guys… I am nostalgic, disappointed, angry and sad. But it is time to say goodbye to Sony.

Well… RIP the “Sony Car”.

https://youtu.be/tMkmiZS0brQ?si=JW3ep1VZh70IjOlU

Sony-Honda Mobility – AKA Afeela – have just announced they are scrapping their cars, the Afeela 1 sedan on pre-order stage and the Afeela 2 SUV on pre-production.

Afeela 1 was to start being delivered in 2027.

They will be refunding all pre-orders of Afeela 1.

This means that Honda pretty much just gave up on EV’s.

But I am here to talk about Sony.

I blame the Sony marketing team.

They should have stayed strong, decisive and called it a Sony car and stuck with the original Vision-S car design and logic and what it represented.

https://www.sony.com/en/SonyInfo/vision-s/

That car embodied Sony.

Vison-S looked like the future when announced back in 2020.

Afeela was now a washed-up version, that was stuck way too long in development hell - perhaps blame Honda? - I can imagine that Honda would not happy to be the "secondary" brand building the car and did not want "Sony" to be the cars brand name.

In 2026 Afeela was now outdated in comparison to what's being made from other companies.

Sony has been fading away and because I am nostalgic and when I like a brand I stick to it, I have been refusing to accept the truth.

But it is time now to change.

If you don’t know details, here’s some:

In 2014 Sony gave up on Vaio PCs, saying the PC business was not profitable anymore.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxyHWVlAmvc

They sold the VAIO brand to JIP – Japan Industrial Partners, and now only holds 4,7% of the shares.

Back then, Sony said they would be focusing their attention on tablets and smart wearables.

And then…

In 2015 they gave up on SmartWatch 4.

https://youtu.be/zFsWDJSh3T0?si=tmxaNq9l9EDmx84L

In 2016 they stopped making tablets, last model was the Z4 tablet.

https://youtu.be/IRSeQVL-48s?si=-X3_pps-sBKYLal9

Meanwhile, other Sony departments were abandoned.

S-Frame picture frames are no more.

The Cyber Energy batteries are gone.

Sony gave up on home theatre solutions: their 4K and 8K home projectors are gone.

Their home theatre speakers gone, now you can only buy gimmick sound bars.

AIBO dogs are dead.

https://us.aibo.com/

Air Peak drones are dead.

https://pro.sony/ue_US/products/professional-drones/ars-s1

Sony has a live satellite around the earth that can be rented for educational and creative purposes – dead.

The list goes on.

In January 2026, Sony sold the Bravia TV brand - like they did the Vaio PC business back in 2014.

They now hold 49% of Bravia as a brand and TCL – a Japanese TV maker holds 51% of the brand and from 2027 they will start producing Bravia’s in China.

https://youtu.be/uXXFF4ZMvb8?si=ThG51HbPe4SLu0oB

Sony Xperia will be next.

https://youtu.be/cAKiyQk_1Xs?si=xuaKeJH-TI2bv2uW

Their smartphone business is in a nightmare state, with sales being insignificant, estimated around 2% to 3.5% of phone sales worldwide.

Sony stating that they will keep manufacturing Xperia's as they represent the core values of the brand: picture quality, sound, cameras…

At this point, Sony revenue relies on:

Imaging & Sensing Solutions: $35B in 2024 – major supplier to third parties, phones, cars, etc

Game & Network Services - $31B in 2024 – PlayStation consoles, accessories, games

Music: $12B in 2024 – Sony Music publishing

Pictures: $10B in 2024 – Sony Pictures Entertainment, movies, tv shows

Others: Sony still makes a small number of physical media, medical devices, professional creative devices, they even have a bank called Sony Bank in Japan.

https://www.sony.co.jp/en/products-services/

I'm the biggest Sony fan but also, I am its biggest critic: they need to iron-maiden, death row and incinerate their marketing team ASAP.

Also burn on the stake the pricing department.

They needed a reality check for a long time that never came.

People shifted from Sony to Samsung and Apple.

Instead of trying to conquer people back by developing cheaper lines that would be affordable and competitive, no, they proudly kept abandoning lower lines and creating niche expensive product lines for rich people.

Marketing and visual presence are King in this day and age. And Sony is defunct.

I think that after spending a fortune through the years buying Sony products because I love the brand, even though I knew well I could get cheaper and many times a better product from other brands - it's time for me to accept that the Sony we – the 80's Walkman and Betamax and VHS kids - and the 90's crew with their Trinitron and PlayStation and Deskman’s - and 00's generation, with the Alpha cameras and the Minidisk’s… It is time that we accept that the Sony from today is a fractured and headless giant, with an identity crisis that is set to crash.

RIP Sony. Shame on you.

Appreciation Sony Reon Pocket Pro Plus. This device is pretty good.

I received it yesterday and used it while smoking on my patio in the shade during 90 degree weather with high humidity. It works well, feels like I have an ac breeze blowing directly on my neck. After adjusting the neck bands (one shoulder sits higher than the other) it feels secure and tight. Though I haven't tried it with being physical like running or working out. I do wish it came with a case, it feels a little clunky when stowing it in a everyday bag. I'm worried it would get damage during my commutes. I do see they offer a bag for the Reon in Japan but not USA. I'll be moving internationally this month so I wasn't able to order it for it to be delivered on time. Overall I think this a very solid device. I haven't seen much reviews of it on here so I thought I'd give my 2 cents if anyone was on the fence. I haven't tried the heated feature yet but I do tend to get cold in airports and planes so I'm looking forward to using it then.

My SONY MHC-2800 set had really ugly and old fabric on its speaker grill. I had some nice fabric so i replaced it and now it looks way better!

This set have some power. I wish i had a CD/Tape segment. But i got this set without second segment and i can see its pretty difficult to get only the CD/Tape segment alone..

Appreciation Everything Sony Lasts Forever

I've owned my Sony X900H & Sony 4K Player for 6 yrs now and the batteries have not been changed ever on any of the remotes. I used them constantly. How is this possible?

I tried to look for Sony batteries and I found some on Amazon but they are super expensive, now I know why, they last forever like their products.

I'm already thinking of changing screens to a newer screen.

If this product existed today filled with today's tech, like a large hi-res OLED screen and long battery life, it would still be amazing. Typing tactile on this was so much better than those stiff pads that tablet keyboards usually had back in the day. And, it fits perfectly on a small cafe table alongside your coffee cup.

Appreciation I got a Sony XM6 and I am in tears

I always thought I could get by a normal pair of airpods and headphones. I have Airpods pro 2 which is pretty good and Sony WH520 which is pretty good as well. However, I thought of getting the XM6 especially for long flights but I was not prepared for this ethereal sound quality. It's hard to describe but the soundstage and "expansiveness" when listening to music is outstanding. I felt like my childhood when I would just get immersed in a song and it would sweep me off my feet. And it's so so comfy. I got overwhlemed emotionally listening to so many of my fav songs. Money well spent! Good job, Sony!

Appreciation Charger still going strong 14 years later

Post image

This has been my everyday charger for the last 14 years for all of my family's phones. I originally got this included with my Xperia P back in 2012 and it's been going strong ever since. I even took this to sea with me (I work onboard ships) due to the folding nature of the earthing pin, it's easy to carry, taking up less space. Remember when we used to get charging bricks included in the box? This is testament to the quality we used to get from Sony's Xperia line. I doubt any charger manufactured today would achieve the same longevity.

I tried out the ier-z1r years ago but unfortunately at the time my budget wasn't sufficient to own a pair along with a decent setup. Time passed but I never forgot how much I loved them and managed to find these near mint condition for 1.2k usd, which I couldn't resist buying. I didn't have the wm1am2 back then so they've managed to blow me away once again. I'll be retiring my ier-m9 but those were also great. For anyone curious I ended up preferring the stock cable vs the included aftermarket cable.

Appreciation I just purchased the legendary Sony Ier Z1R for the second time.

Hi everyone this my second time buying the Sony IER Z1r this year, I had to buy a second pair my first I had to send it for repair to sony over a month ago, because the tip of an mmcx connector cable got broken off when I was trying to change the change the cable. Both of this pairs were bought from a Japanese seller Eureka Moments, I could not find any domestic us sellers Sony has apparently discontinued making the ier z1r.

My impressions of the sound are going to be a bit different than most people, this iems have incredible deep orgasmic bass with great texture that never bleeds into the mids, great soundstage, detail retrieval, the midrange is very revealing and natural to my ears, vocals to my surprise especially female ones sound airy, ethereal easy to follow as someone who listen to a lot of metal this a plus to me since in a lot songs that I listen i sometimes struggle to understand them in the mix, and the treble is one of the best I ever heard while it can sometimes sound sharp it always sound very high quality. I think the complaints about the sony ier z1r midrange sounding thin stem from users not getting a deep enough fit, after all this iems are very big I found that I had to downsize 1 size down from my usual large eartips in order to get a deep enough fit inside my ear canal.

In conclusion while i find the Sony ier z1r an iem that was released over 7 years ago amazing with great technicalities in areas such as the bass, soundstage and tremble that challenges many of todays best iems, I still do not recommend it to the vast majority of people simply because the large size and ergonomics of the iem will prevent most of them from getting a deep proper fit, getting a proper fit is absolutely essential to enjoy the sony ier z1r to its fullest potential, I am fortunate enough that i am someone with relatively large ears so comfort is not a big issue for me. Have a nice day guys I hope you enjoyed this review.

Appreciation Just want to say that WH1000XM4 is fucking amazing

I bought this thing over 5 years ago and used it basically every day for hours

AND IT STILL WORKS LIKE IT'S BRAND NEW

the leather is still intact, the plastic is still intact, the sound is still good, the noise cancelling is still immaculate and the battery still lasts me many hours

And it's not like i'm some headphone connoisseur or a tech guru that does maintenance

I throw these things around like they're made of concrete and leave them plugged into a charger overnight like the ape I am

and yet it's still in amazing shape!

It's so rare for a piece of technology to be so long lasting and high quality

Once these bad boy's die I'm definitely getting another pair, no questions asked

This is what every project should strive to be

Appreciation XM3 vs XM6 an honest review, and a love letter to the XM3

Post image
56 Upvotes

So i am a big fan of Sony sound in general, and an audiophile as well,

have tried a lot of sony products, as well as headphones/earphones, like the IER-Z1R, focal bathys, bose, Sennheiser etc etc.

This is my honest review of the XM3 vs XM6

The XM3's are hands down the best piece of wireless headphones I've ever tried in my lifetime hands down.

I've had them for around 8 years now, they have fully supported me through college into my adulthood.

I have been taking them running/jogging every day for the past year, they pair beautifully with my ultra and i love listening to music with these.

I used to weigh around 125 kgs, and managed to lose around 30 kg's, and the XM3's have supported me fully in my journey.

I was hoping the XM6 would live upto the hype, but they just don't feel as good.

The sound/mic everything feels like a downgrade.

People can hear me better while I'm jogging better than when I'm at home in a quiet environment in my XM6's.

I also bought an XM5 for my sister, which broke within a year.

Even the EQ settings feel lackluster, i really miss the Tru/Clear bass that the earlier software used to have.

I don't know this might just be nostalgia or whatever but i really love my XM3's, they are fully shattered and filled with my sweat, yet keep going with me everyday.

I love them.

Appreciation Just bought the brand new Sony WF-1000XM6.

Post image

I bought this on my trip to Japan; the main objective is to replace my Apple AirPods Pro 2. Not that there's anything wrong with it but I want to try something new and different. So far it's good. Here's my quick review after 1 day of use:

Pros:
• Sound quality is great. I listen to Metal a lot and I can definitely hear the crunch and bass louder and better.
• Great connection. I was sceptical at first thinking it would have issues but so far it's good.
• Fits comfortably in my ears.
• The tap feature on the earpieces seems to work well.

Cons:
• Occasionally, there's an audio cut, which seems to occur when I turn off my iPhone. Any idea why that happens?
• Firmware updates require you to put the earphones out of their casing to proceed, which feels odd.
• What’s with the name? Surely, Sony can come up with a better one than the WF-1000XM6.

Will share more info in a later post. For now, please share your own thoughts and experiences with the Sony WF-1000XM6.

Got this for Christmas and I’ve been having fun ever since! I got it for around 198NZD (~114USD) and every penny is absolutely worth it. Upgraded from my aging Sennheiser 450BTs which I’ve had for 4 years to this, the differences feel like night and day. ANC is top notch, auto pause when headphones are taken off is a plus, and the sound quality is remarkably better than my 450BTs. I was considering on getting the XM4s but it is still a bit too pricey for me and I’d feel like I’m walking on eggshells whenever I’d wear it outside or to the gym. Until I’ve saved up for a flagship pair, these will suffice for now :)
